The catastrophic event occurred around 1:30 a.m. EST when a vessel departing from the Port of Baltimore collided with the Key Bridge, causing it to crumble within moments. Officials reported that the crew had issued a warning regarding a power issue and issued a distress signal ("mayday") prior to the collision.
Footage capturing the incident shows the cargo ship colliding with one of the bridge's columns, followed by the bridge collapsing, plunging into the water and partially collapsing onto the ship. A dramatic burst of flames and smoke ensued, piercing the night sky.
They are currently on a massive search effort initiated for six construction workers who were on the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore at the time.
