Going to Christmas at the Park tonight? Make sure to stop by the Poway Heritage Museum! It’s filled with interesting stories including this one from Philip Crosthwaite, the first Anglo settler of Poway and the legacy he left on both sides of the border.

Philip Crosthwaite was the first Anglo-Saxon settler of Poway. He was also a binational figure. When I was a reporter at the San Diego Union-Tribune, I had the pleasure to work with his great grandson: journalist, editor and famed Mexican fiction writer Luis Humberto Crosthwaite.

BRAVO to Poway High School for encouraging civic participation from students. This is a letter Power High School Senior Brandon Armas wrote to Mayor Steve Vaus about the much needed and delayed upgrades to Espola Rd. In part he writes:

“Everyday I drive to school from Silverset and there is always heavy traffic or possible accidents at the intersection. It is very dangerous.”

We exist to provide a platform for people like Pat Díaz, a 75-year old community leader who is fighting back efforts by the city to convert a small neighborhood park with limited parking to a sports complex. Read his commentary. For 35 years, the city has honored a commitment made in writing to protect the park — until now. While no one was looking, the city sent crews to install commercial-grade generators and stadium lighting. It then sent a notice to neighbors letting them know about the plan so it would be too late for them to push back. The city is using hardball tactics against its own constituents.
