The final taonga puoro highlight for #TAIAO's composition is the Pūtātara. Traditionally triton shells or native conch shells that wash up on to Aotearoa's shores, it can be heard over long distances thus ideal for signalling and ceremonial purposes. For #TAIAO, it represents the start of a new day.

The next taonga puoro used in #TAIAO's composition is the Porotiti. The Porotiti is a disc which is spun on twin cords to create a mysterious humming and is known to be used for traditional healing.

Here's a sample of a taonga puoro used in #TAIAO's original composition. The Kōauau is made from wood or bone, usually with three note-stops on top and one underneath. The first upper note-stop was called Maui-mua, the second Maui-roto, and the third Maui-taha; each one representing one of the brothers of the famous Polynesian hero, Māui.
