Disability and Nature: Breaking Boundaries in the Outdoors đŸŒ±

Think back to the last nature reserve you visited. Did you see any holes in the path or areas that weren’t accessible? Were these areas only reachable via steps, or did the car park have large potholes? Did you see many benches around the reserve?

In this article in Volume 6, Alice Weaver explores the many challenges faced by disabled people when trying to access the natural world and shares some of her own reflections.

Volume 6: Coming 8th SEPTEMBER.

In our latest issue, Viridis co-founder and writer delves into the world of exploration

‘The act of exploration itself is intrinsically linked to ecology, and the intersectional link between environment and people plays a fundamental role in this. To put it more simply, if we care about the environment and spend time in nature personally, we are more motivated to protect it

Part 3: I couldn’t have left Madeira without going on that trip my co-workers, now turned best mates, and I have been planning since starting working together.

After calling out from work, getting the wine, bread, hummus, and snacks from Pingo Doce we made our way to São Vicente which is where this photo was taken. Amazing sunny and warm December day, with just enough breeze to cool off. No need to say that the whole day was spent on the beach enjoying the last bit of Madeira before returning to the cold winter back home in Romania.

A huge thank you to Alex for sharing his amazing work with us this week! 😍 We hope you enjoyed it and please don’t forget to follow Alex’s channels to see more of his work.

Part 2: This photo was taken during my last week in Madeira when I got to say my “see you later” to this island I got to call home for 5 months.

I took my friends, rented a car, and started driving along the northern coast of Madeira enjoying the beautiful cliffs, towns, and of course the blue ocean. I’m sure I’ll be back but until then I get to relive those moments through these pictures.

Stay tuned for part 3 of Alex’s takeover on Sunday! đŸ€©

This week we are thrilled to have photographer taking over our Instagram feed! Over the coming week, Alex will be sharing some of his incredible images from Madeira, Portugal.

Alex says ‘Although a street photographer at heart, during my time there, I was fascinated by the harmony between the green mountains, the ever-present fog and haze, and the water. I loved capturing the nature and its beauty, especially during midday. Contrary to what other photographers say about shooting in the harsh midday light, I quite enjoyed it as it proposed the interesting opportunity of capturing hazy landscapes. Moreover, overexposing the shots has also been something that I enjoyed playing with as I reckon it introduces a new dimension and ends up giving further interest to the photos”.

Stay tuned to see more of Alex’s takeover!
