Kentucky Wesleyan to present annual Festival of Lessons and Carols at St. Stephen Cathedral

Owensboro, Ky. (Nov. 26, 2024) – Kentucky Wesleyan invites the community to begin the Christmas season at the Festival of Lessons and Carols, “The Tree of Life,” Dec. 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. at St. Stephen Cathedral at 610 Locust St. The Kentucky Wesleyan Singers and Shepard Brass Quintet will present Owensboro’s adaptation of the famous Nine Lessons and Carols, offered since 1918 at King’s College in Cambridge, England, and broadcast around the world by the BBC.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Patrick Ritsch is the conductor, and James Wells, director of music at the cathedral, is the staff collaborative pianist. Associate Professor of Music Dr. Lisa Clark is a soloist.

“The service of Nine Lessons and Carols is one of my favorite services of the Anglican tradition,” said Ritsch. “I am honored to continue this tradition at Kentucky Wesleyan. It began with my dear friend, Professor Dennis Jewett, and the late Professor Paul Oakley. This service is a wonderful way to welcome the Christmas season.”

Tickets ($10, $5 for senior adults and students with ID) are available at kwc.edu, by calling 270-852-3117 and at the door.

Patriots gobble up semi-state championship

(SEMI-STATE) HERITAGE HILLS 42, BATESVILLE 0

The Heritage Hills football team has been hungry all season.
But burgers, pizza and fried chicken weren’t on their menu.
No, the Patriots had a totally different kind of food in mind.
They wanted to sink their teeth into more post-season success.
And while they’ve certainly tasted plenty so far this fall, they’re craving one final meal.

They’ll get the chance to indulge themselves very soon.
No. 2 ranked Heritage Hills earned their seat at the big-feast table after gobbling up visiting Batesville 42-0 to capture the Class 3A South Semi-State champion- ship last Friday night at The Jungle in Lincoln City.

As one might guess, both Patriot coach Todd Wilkerson and his players were pretty happy with their latest accomplishment.
“It feels awesome,” said the Heritage Hills veteran boss. “When I walked off the field last year, I know the kids were saying we’re going back to state, but I know as a coach so much has to go well. You have to stay healthy. You have to play great. We’ve done that.”

And now they’ll get to play on the final weekend of the season for the second year in a row.

“It’s a dream come true to see this happen [again],” added Patriot junior quarterback Jett Goldsberry. “It’s never happened here [being] back to back semi-state champs. It’s really cool to do that. I’m really proud of this team.”

So is veteran teammate Hunter Meredith.
“It feels amazing. We’ve made school history with two straight trips to state,” added the Patriot senior running back. “We’ve taken a one-game at a time approach and we’re finally where we want to be. We played with a lot of heart and we played with a lot of Patriot pride. We wanted it, and it’s a great feeling to have this kind of performance in our last game at The Jungle.”

Patriots don’t miss a beat in regional romp

(REGIONAL) HERITAGE HILLS 50, NORTH HARRISON 7

Fans seemed to be in a dancing mood at halftime of the Heritage Hills football team’s post-season matchup with North Harrison.
But they weren’t doing the Electric SIide, the Macarena or the Texas Two-Step.

They were performing the Cotton Eye Joe. Ironically, however, the Heritage Hills players did another type of dance on the gridiron. Let’s call it the Regional Romp.

The No. 2 ranked Patriots had all their moves down and didn’t miss a beat as they danced away with an impressive 50-7 victory over the visiting Cougars in the Class 3A Regional title tilt last Friday night at The Jungle in Lincoln City.

“It feels great. It’s back to back. It’s a special moment for us as the Patriots,” added senior Hunter Meredith. “It’s awesome to come out here on your home field and win 50-7. It always feels good to come out on top.”
