ISD student who immigrated from a few years ago heading to West Point

A Dallas ISD student is ready to serve the country that gave him so much in return.

He's graduating from W.T. White High School and headed to West Point Academy.

It's an enormous accomplishment for a teen who immigrated to the U.S. from Ethiopia just a few years ago.

had never traveled outside of his country until he moved to Dallas with him mom, who is from the U.S.

He did not know a word of English.

Now, he's headed to West Point, the first student from W.T. White High School to do so in more than a decade.

Friday was the last day of class for Dallas ISD.

Inside Major ' ROTC class at W.T. White, students were celebrating one of their own.

Yayesew Shimeles, a journalist who formerly charged under terrorism proclamation has again charged under Hate Speech and Disinformation Prevention and Suppression Proclamation No. 1185/2020 after the terrorism charge declined by court. The Federal High Court Lideta branch 12th criminal bench has granted him a bail according to the Federal Attorney General and Addis Standard Magezine. On 23rd March 2020 Ethiopian legislature- House of Peoples Representative proclaimed the Hate Speech and Disinformation Prevention and Suppression Proclamation No. 1185/2020 with the aim of circumventing the dissemination and proliferation of hate speech, disinformation, and other false and misleading information. Furthermore, the proclamation aimed at limiting individuals not engage in speech that incites violence, is likely to cause public disturbance or promotes hatred and discrimination against a person or an identifiable group or community based on ethnicity, religion, race, gender or disability. The proclamation is the first to come up with the limitation clause after Ethiopian embarked on the transition and the administration of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed opened up political spaces- that foes will take part in the political affairs of the nation and the former flawed laws replaced to widen the field of play. Will the proclamation has ‘the chilling effect’ on the freedom of expression? Will it limit the foes to do the campaign freely? Will it be invoked by the incumbent to circumvent the rights of individuals and foes? Those are the usual questions running in the minds of rights groups.
