The Ministry of Interior informed the National Assembly that a staggering Rs 47.8 million was spent on the security protocol of VIPs in April 2024.

According to details, the Ministry of Interior submitted to the National Assembly that Rs 47.8 million was spent on the security protocol of judges, bureaucrats, and ministers in April this year.

The Ministry of Interior added that 532 police officers and 44 vehicles were also dedicated to providing round-the-clock security to VIPs during the period.

According to the Ministry of Interior, 34 vehicles and 409 policemen were deployed on the security of judges. Six vehicles and 79 police personnel were deployed for the VIP protocol of bureaucrats.

According to a Gallup Pakistan survey of over 500 people, arranged marriages are common in Pakistan. It was revealed that 81% of Pakistanis had arranged marriages, while 18% said they had love marriages.

Gallup Pakistan reported that the percentage of girls who had arranged marriages is higher, with 85% marrying according to their parents' wishes, while 14% preferred to marry by their own choice.

The survey showed that 77% of boys followed their parents' choice, while 22% married by their own preference.

In terms of age, in the survey, 21 percent of young people, age up to 30 years, said they preferred marriage of choice while 79 percent of the people said they will marry according to their parents’ wishes.

On the other hand, 81 percent of those aged 30 to 50 had arranged marriages, while 18 percent married someone by their own choice.

Over 89 percent above the age of 50 preferred parents choice for marriage, while 10 percent preferred personal choice over parental opinion.

The Pakistan rowing team delivered a decent performance at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship held in Penang, Malaysia, from August 9 to 11, securing a total of five gold, five silver, and four bronze medals, as reported by the Pakistan Rowing Federation.

The government has cut the petrol price by Rs1.86/ltr and the high-speed diesel rate by Rs3.32 per litre as part of the fortnightly revision of the fuel prices.

The petrol rate decreased from Rs260.96 to Rs259.10 while the high-speed diesel price fell from Rs266.07 per litre to Rs262.75/ltr after a drop in fuel prices.

The Kerosene oil rate has seen a decrease of Rs2.15 per litre, with prices dropping from Rs171.77 to Rs169.62. The light diesel oil prices have also been cut by Rs2.97/ltr, reducing the cost from Rs157.02 to Rs154.05.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started blocking online content and mobile applications under its Web Monitoring System (WMS).

According to the PTA report, so far 2369 (Uniform Resource Locator) URLs and 183 mobile applications have been blocked in Pakistan.

The blocked websites and apps were involved in sharing personal data of citizens and their identity information, violating privacy norms.

Only 1 in 10 Pakistanis believe that the country is headed in the right direction with the rural population more optimistic than urbanites, according to the Consumer Confidence Index Survey by Ipsos.

When asked would you say things in this country are heading in the right direction, or are they off on the wrong track? In response only 11 percent said that the country is moving in the right direction with 89% saying that the country’s direction is not right.

According to the survey, economic problems continue to top the list of worrying issues for Pakistanis despite some improvement. In Q3 people are increasingly worried about rising electricity prices and taxes.

The federal government has released details of Pakistan’s domestic and foreign debt, revealing that the country’s total debt has reached Rs 71 trillion as of June 2024.

According to the document presented in the National Assembly, the country’s total debt comprises 66% domestic debt and 34% foreign debt.

The ongoing internet slowdown across Pakistan is expected to prolong with repairs to the damaged SMW-4 submarine cable likely to be completed by early October 2024, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

“The ongoing internet slowdown across the country is mainly due to faults in two (SMW4, AAE-1) of the seven international submarine cables connecting Pakistan internationally,” the PTA said in a statement.

“It is updated that fault in SMW-4 submarine cable is likely to be repaired by early October 2024.”

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has proposed acquiring the 15% stake in the Reko Diq mining project, alongside a grant for infrastructure development around the mining area through Manara Minerals.

According to a news report, the offer includes cash for the shares and a grant to construct essential infrastructure in the region.

Internet shutdowns in 2023 caused loss of a total of $237.6 million to Pakistan’s economy and had affected almost 83 million Pakistanis. Whereas the total number of shutdown duration stood at 259 hours in total, reflects Statista’s latest data.

More interestingly, Pakistan stands at 7th position in the list of most-affected countries (monetary loss) by internet shutdowns during the past year. Statista is a German online platform that specialises in data gathering and visualisation. Pakistan has sent a formal invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the meeting of heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) governments scheduled in the middle of October in Islamabad, official sources confirmed.

They said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Modi and other SCO leaders for the gathering of regional leaders on October 15 and 16 in Islamabad.

This is the first time Pakistan invited the Indian leader in 8 years.
