[What we learned going from passion to serving]
Most of us got into the creative industry because of our interest that turns into something we're passionate about.
But along the way we forget that servicing is about more than simply doing what we want or what the client requests. It involves understanding the client's vision, aligning our efforts with their goals, and balancing it with our expertise.
By actively listening, sharing our knowledge, and maintaining open communication, we can deliver exceptional service that not only helps clients achieve their vision but also drives mutual success and long-term partnerships.
At the end of the day, it's all about making the show the best that it can be. A win there is a win for everyone.

Whether or not AI will take over our jobs, one thing is clear for now: It certainly does help solve a lot of problems that wasn't possible before.
Here are some tools available that can improve your audio:
1. Adobe Podcast
One of the most common audio problem comes from recording in less than ideal environments where noise and reverb gets picked up by the microphone. Adobe Podcast solves this by removing background noise and makes it sounds as if it was recorded in a studio.
2. Izotope Neutron
Izotope's Neutron helps to make mixing easier and faster using AI to help you achieve a clear and balanced mix. Previously, professionals need to manually craft a mix which can take a lot of time, but with Neutron, it uses AI to help get a balanced mix faster between the elements. Though it helps, it's a starting point in your mix and you will still need to rely on your ears.
Vocal Remover
Sometimes there's a need to remove vocals from the music to create an instrumental track. Vocal remover does that and is a free tool.
All these tools are not a complete solution but a complementary one where it helps to speed up the process. As the tech progresses, things will only improve from here.
We're certainly living through exciting times.

Lights, camera, action! 🎥 You might think creating a video ad is a piece of cake, but let us spill the beans—it's a whole different ballgame! 🍰🎉

Here's a little secret: Behind every successful video ad, there's a village of talented individuals who make the magic happen. 🏰✨ It's not just about grabbing a camera and shooting—it's a collaborative effort that brings together the right people with their unique parts.

At the end of the day, we are in the servicing industry and while it sounds simple enough, not many truly understand it.

To us, our success is measured by the satisfaction of our clients. That's why we approach each project with a client-centric mindset. We love it when we are able to collaborate with our clients to ensure that their needs and goals are met.

And here's the key: As a service industry, it's not about what we want, but rather what our clients want. We recognize that every project is unique, and we strive to provide customized solutions that best fit the needs of each individual project.

That's why we believe that communication and collaboration are key to achieving success in any project. Working closely with our clients, we're able to understand their vision and provide the support they need to bring it to life.

Besides, it's more fun working together 😉

Production sound, the sound that is recorded on set during filming is the foundation upon which the rest of the sound design is built, and it is essential that it is captured correctly.

Without good production sound, the audio post-production process (basically what we do) becomes much more difficult and time-consuming. It can lead to having to redo dialogue, adding more foley or sound effects, and in worst-case scenarios, reshooting entire scenes. This can lead to significant delays in the project's schedule, increased costs, and a lot of frustration for everyone involved.

On the other hand, excellent audio post-production can take the production sound to a whole new level. Audio post-production involves refining, editing, and mixing the sound elements to create a cohesive and immersive audio experience for the audience. It can include adding sound effects, foley, music, and dialogue cleanup.

To achieve a successful audio post-production process, it is important to have a good working relationship with the production sound team. Communication is key, and there should be a clear understanding of what is expected from both parties. This includes things like what kind of sounds need to be recorded on set, how the files should be delivered, and how they will be used in the final mix.

By working together, the production sound and audio post-production teams can create a seamless and immersive audio experience that enhances the storytelling of the project. It's a true collaboration that requires expertise, creativity, and attention to detail from both sides.

In one of our recently completed work, we had the privilege of working with Naim Daniel for an ad campaign. Needless to say we're a fan of collaborations. 🤝

When working with an artist on an ad project, the collaborative process can be very rewarding when it all comes together.
In crafting the music, some of the things we needed to be mindful of in a campaign like this is to compose a music that not only reflects the brand's values and messaging but also take into account the artist's brand and vocal style.
That means keeping it within his style of music and melody lines that's more or less within his delivery. Also the key of the song matters as well. 🪄A tip on this is to use similar key to his other songs so there are no surprises when the artist comes for recording.
This can help to create a more cohesive and memorable ad that resonates with viewers.

It's disheartening to see yet another round of layoffs. This time in the media industry. Disney's announcement is a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by companies in the current environment.
At the same time, it's important to recognize the resilience and adaptability of those who work in media, who have shown time and again their ability to pivot and find new opportunities in the face of adversity.
Despite the current challenges, we remain optimistic about the future of this industry and the talented individuals who are a part of it.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that there will be three rounds of layoffs, with the first beginning this week.

[What Does Coconuts and Horses Have In Common...]
It's common knowledge in my industry but did you know that coconuts are used to mimic horses galloping?
In a process known as foley (came from a guy named Jack Foley), it is basically a sound effects technique used to capture everyday sound for tv shows and movies.
Why foley?
It comes down to control. On shooting locations, you try to get the cleanest dialogue recording as possible and then recreate the world in audio post.
If the dialogue was recorded with say, some cloth rustle, there might be a problem when you try to raise the audio level as the rustle also gets louder which might irritate viewers.
Therefore, this is actually a crucial process in achieving a natural sounding environment on the screen.
This is an old video but it explains pretty much how what you watch is an art by itself.
So the next time you watch your favourite show, perhaps you can show some appreciation by watching till the end of the credits 🤣

[How much of what you watch is real?]

When I first worked in an audio post studio, there was one distinct incident which became my ‘Neo wake up’ moment. Call me naive but back then I really believed that what I watched, was all real.
The sound of nature from Discovery Channel? All real. The sound of spider crawling? All recorded when they shot it. I never thought otherwise. This was quite early on when I just joined so forgive my ignorance.
Till there was a specific ad. I can’t say which brand it was but it was for a car. They just launched a new model and were working on an ad.
I wasn’t working on it but I saw what they had to do to get the sound they wanted. Instead of using sounds from the car itself, I saw my colleagues piecing together sounds from different supercars and even a F1 car. When that wasn’t enough because it lacked’ oomph’, he resorted to record one of my colleague’s car.
With enough magic and editing skills, he managed to get the approval from the clients.
From that point on, I felt my whole life was a lie.
Why this story? Because I came across one of the golden buzzer act from AGT and i knew some of the sounds were actually added in to intensify the video. If it were just the live recorded sound, I doubt it would be as engaging. Let me know in the comments if you can spot which.
Would you have known that just by watching or you would have thought nothing of it?

Ever wondered where the exact sound for the Netflix chime (Tu-dum) came from? (Hint: Answer below)🤫🤫

While working on the Netflix Raya ad, where the concept was a play on the iconic chime (tudum interpreted as 'tudung'), it got me thinking about this.

I used to wonder why huge companies invests tens or sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars for what i would call an audio logo. Actually, the term is known as sonic branding.

Just like a logo, it's used to stimulate recognition of the brand and trigger an emotional response. The moment we hear it, we instantly recognize the brand and it makes us feel a certain way towards it (e.g. Windows and Mac's startup sound, Netflix's chime).

We don't think much of it but all these sonic branding are done deliberately and it's subtle and it connects deep into our subconscious without us realizing.

I think for most people, coming up with a 3-4 second sonic brand sounds like a very easy thing to do. Just put some sounds here and there and tudummm, it's done!

If that were the case, why spend the huge amount on something so easy? Obviously there has to be something more at play here.
In a world where we're bombarded with so much stimulations especially visually, brands are competing to get your attention using as much sensory options as possible.

So it makes sense then for them to compete especially to be on top of your mind.

So back to Netflix. Did you know it was designed to keep you watching? It builds the anticipation when you 'Netflix and chill' and you hear the chime and it's telling you something good is coming. 😂

By the way, the answer for the question above can be found in the comments section. It's very apt that they used it as their sonic brand. Enjoy!

You've experienced 5.1, 7.1 surround sound and now Dolby Atmos in the cinema but those aren't exactly something you can put in your pocket when you want to listen to your music or watch your show.

It never really took off in the mass consumer market yet. Which brings me to my question:

What does the future of audio sound like?

Haven't tried this but I wonder if this announcement by Apple Music might be a taste for what is to come.

The next dimension of sound is here with Spatial Audio. In this special roundtable conversation, Apple Music’s Zane Lowe sits down in the studio with music i...
