What’s next!?
I keep getting this question and honestly I don’t know. I’m praying God give me direction so that my next step will be aligned with my purpose.
My doctoral degree is in Learning Design & Performance Technology under the Educational Psychology & Learning Systems umbrella at FSU. The ISLT program allowed me to explore my unique interests in mindfulness while building my skills and confidence as a scholar practitioner.
My dissertation entitled Finding BLISS: The Development and implementation of a Culturally-Based Mindfulness Intervention within an Urban Title I Elementary School Context allowed me to create, develop, and implement a research-based, culturally relevant, mindfulness intervention and measure it’s effectiveness for teaching students about mindfulness and show them contexts in which practicing mindfulness may be helpful.
Although I’m still uncertain of exactly what’s next, I am confident that the knowledge and skills I have gained from being school counselor for 13 years in combination with my interests in technology and development will lead me into doing something impactful.
It’s only up from here!

Earning my doctoral degree while working full time wasn’t easy by far but I did it! I can see why so many people start their doctoral journey but don’t complete the dissertation. I’m typically somewhat of an overachiever when it comes to academics but it took me a solid fours years to complete this degree. (I was aiming for 3 years 🤷🏾‍♀️)

While I’m beyond grateful to be able to announce that I’ve earned my doctoral degree, I’m also here to remind others to trust in God’s divine timing. We may feel like we’re behind where we’re “supposed” to be, but remember we are all on our own time. Trust that everything will fall into place exactly as it should. Have faith that the journey is leading us to where we’re meant to be 🙏🏾

It’s not too late to take the first step towards reaching your dreams today 🚀
