There is an African proverb which goes “only when the lions have historians, the hunters cease to be heroes”. With its history of slave trade and colonisation the present state of Africa throws light on the past. History is vital as a tool for change and history is about identity, self-respect and reclaiming of Africans own narrative (reconstructing African history from an African perspective).
The African continent in the olden days by and large, was neither inferior, nor weaker than the rest of the Old World. The unequal development within Africa was not any worse than that north of the Sahara, on both sides of the Mediterranean.

Africans have gone through various life's metamorphoses beginning with slavery, colonialism, and neo-colonialism. Starting in the 16th century, Africa has witnessed an increasing European influence on the continent which has been driven by trade, including the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, which created large African diaspora populations in America.

In the late 19th century, European countries colonized almost all of Africa except for one, Ethiopia extracting resources from the continent and exploiting local communities. The European states partitioned and shared lands in Africa in a process that is referred to as the ‘scramble for Africa’. This was formalised at the famous “Berlin Conference” of 1884-1885.

The reasons for this ranged from the desire to obtain cheap raw materials and labour to maximise profits. Therefore colonisation provided a way for European countries to organise production on the spot and then exploit both labour and natural resources.

Our Beloved continent Africa
Africa, the most resource-abundant continent on the planet. Her resources range from gold, diamond, oil, natural gas, copper, uranium, among others and these are mined in different parts of the continent.
The continent also has 40% of the world's gold and up to 90% chromium and platinum.
The continent also boasts of the largest reserves of cobalt, diamonds, platinum, and uranium in the world.
The continent also holds 65% of the world's arable land and 10% of the planet's internal renewable fresh water sources. There is no country in Africa that does not have some deposits of natural resources.
As Africans, time is now to rise and maximise the opportunities that are in our backyard.

We at Gems of Africa wish our Facebook family a Happy Africa day.

No thought was given to the history of Africa except so far it had been a field of exploitation for the caucasian. You might study the history as it was offered in our system from elementary school throughout the university and you would never hear Africa mentioned except in the negative (Carter G. Woodson).

Mansa Musa Book Launch

Copied from Peter Makossah’s page

Three Malawian ladies in Manchester have co-authored an inspirational heritage book, Mansa Musa, for African kids in the UK.
They launched the book on Saturday, October 1, 2022, on Manchester and the event was graced by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Donna Ludford and was attended by myriad
African nationalities.

It was a sumptuous and proud moment to be Malawian.
The book tells a story of an African King, Mansa Musa, the world's all-time richest person to have lived on the planet earth and his wealth makes the current crop of rich people, the likes of Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, among others, very poor.
Mansa Musa was the ninth Mansa of the Mali Empire, which reached its territorial peak during his reign. Mansa Musa is known for his wealth and gift-giving, and he is the wealthiest person in history but they ignore him whenever they are listing the richest people in the world and it is fair to say because he is black African.
His is a story and history of hope and a phenomenon heritage for Africa and African natives but the western world would not want to tell it because they want to portray Africa as a very poor and hopeless continent.

The three Malawian ladies, in this book, are telling the African kids in the UK that Africa is a rich continent endowed with natural amenities and that their African heritage is rich and grounded in power.

Let us tell our kids about our own stories and history to inspire them to aspire for greatness and make them believe in themselves that it is possible for an African child to be the richest in the world because they come from a continent where the wealthiest person in history ever came from.

Let us empower our children with positive vibes. Let us let them know the truth and their true heritage.

The book is available at Amazon to buy.

Congratulations
Tikhala Chimpango, Mhla Musha Edith Shela and Patricia Chimangeni for the good job well done.

Please launch the book in every major UK city so all African kids get the inspiration.

Mama and I were honoured to be invited to this auspicious occasion which was beautifully directed by Hannington Geoffrey the DJ Hanny G who also spun the decks.
Nottingham-based Malawi Afro-Gospel Queen Matamando Mkukupa Maneya graced the occasion with her silky voice.

Thank you for the beautiful moments.

We turned up the Makossah way.

Kwame Nkrumah, one of the most inspirational people to have lived in my opinion, said:

1. “As far as i am concerned, I am in the knowledge that death can never extinguish the torch which I have lit in Ghana and Africa. Long after I am dead and gone, the light will continue to burn and be borne aloft, giving light and guidance to all people” - Kwame Nkrumah

2. "The independence of Ghana is meaningless until it is linked to the total liberation of Africa." - Kwame Nkrumah

3. "Freedom is not something that one person can bestow on another as a gift. They claim it as their own and none can keep it from them." - Kwame Nkrumah

4. "Those who would judge us merely by the heights we have achieved would do well to remember the depths from which we started." - Kwame Nkrumah
