Pahoua reached out to me in early August, asking if I would be interested in helping choreograph parts of a Hmong dance that Niam Leej Ntxhais was currently working on. I agreed but wouldn't be able to start until after Labor Day because I was in the initial stages of preparing for the Oshkosh Labor Day Talent Competition.

By the time Labor Day arrived, that routine was nearly finished. I was then asked if I could choreograph a new routine for NLN. Understanding that each dancer had a different level of dance experience, my goal was to teach an intermediate-level dance that focused solely on the ex*****on of hand gestures and transitions. I began coaching Niam Leej Ntxhais in mid-September, and surprisingly, we completed the routine by late October, practicing only once a week for 1-2 hours each day. Within that short timeframe, the girls improved so much, even though I knew they had so much potential from the very first practice I attended. I'm going to miss working with these girls, and thank you for the support!

Final performance of the year. Thanks to Niam Leej Ntxhais for creating the supporting signs and for cheering during my performance!

Last time I reviewed or performed this routine was back at the Labor Day Festival, so please excuse any mistakes.

Niam Leej Ntxhais at the Lor New Year (Wausau)

I have been working with these young, talented, and super dedicated girls for the past two months. Super sad that our journey has come to an end but I’m happy for the opportunity and wish you all the best. So proud of them because they’ve improved so much within the last two months and their “flicks” / hand movements are really shining. Missing one girl for this routine.

For those who didn't know, this past weekend I wrapped up my role as the Co-Coordinator for the Wausau Hmong New Year's Dance Competition. I am thankful for the opportunity to have led such an important role that allows me to continue advocating for the Hmong dance community and competitions.

Thank you to Sheng, the Coordinator, and Wausau Hmong New Year, Inc. for believing and trusting in me to help and assist the dance competition this year. Also, thank you to the Board and all the volunteers for making this year's New Year such a memorable and positive experience for everyone who attended.

Hello everyone!! What an exciting Wausau Hmong New Year it was!!

From the bottom of our board members’ and volunteers’ hearts, thank you to attendees near and far, young and elderly for joining us today! We tried our best to make it a wonderful family event, and we hope it was for you and your loved ones. We also hope that you’ll forgive us for any hiccups. The new year was a success because of each and everyone of you!

2nd place at the Madison Hmong New Year’s Talent Competition. Congrats to 1st and 3rd!

4th place again! Thankful for all the friends and family who supported me in this competition. It’s been 10 years since I’ve performed a kpop dance for a large audience and I’m super happy my routine was scored 2nd highest today.

It’s not easy being a solo Hmong dancer but the journey doesn’t stop here. For any solo dancers out there, you are more than a number. See y’all at the next competition.

Had to get my lemonade before leaving. Time to get lit now!

Round 2 finally going to start. Much needed energy drink for this hot and exhausting day.

Dance cover to start my morning.

Nkauj Hmoob Sam Neua is hands down my all time favorite Hmong dance group. Despite this being about a 14-year-old routine, they went hard on this choreography.

These students have been practicing extremely hard for the last 2 weeks for this performance!

On the first day of class, only about 5 students said they had previous experience with Hmong dance. I’m glad many of these students came to class everyday looking forward to learning more about Hmong dance and really challenged themselves perfect this dance.

I’m so thankful to have had the chance to teach Hmong dance to more than 120 students (grades 6-12), while having more than 80 students participate in the performance. I'm happy that I not only taught them dance but also introduced them to artists like Luj Yaj and Tsab Mim, which none of the students knew. Today marked the end of the Hmong Phoojywg Enrichment Program and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be the first dance teacher to many of these students.

Collab between 2econds, Nkauj Nraug Toj Roob, Nkauj Hmoob USA, and Nkauj Hnub Nraug Hli.. Jk, just trying to make this sounds important lol.

Quick dance warmup from a while back. Six years later and I finally choreographed the whole dance. Waiting for the next graduation party to maybe showcase this one.

My ideal dance group consists of only 4 to 8 dancers because I love focusing on transitions and formations!

Happy to announce I’ve completed my first day as a Cultural Expert teaching Hmong dance through the Hmong Phoojywg Enrichment Program in Weston, WI.

Super excited to see how the next 2 weeks will turn out and can’t wait for the performances!

Check out my dance workshop from this past weekend! I had so much fun leading this group, and I'm glad the choreography was just at the right level.

Thanks to Hmong Family Society Inc. and Diane for having me participate in the Hmong Dance Workshop.

Round 1 - practice.

Not posting my performance for round 1 because I didn’t do the choreography justice. I really wished I had perfected the dance so that people could of seen the amount of footwork I incorportated to the Suab Qeej Nplog dance.

The Suab Qeej Nplog dance is inspired by traditional Laotian and Thai dance, though people maybe view this dance as simple and not difficult, I believe that the ex*****on of the dance and elegance is what makes the dance difficult.

The choreography for this dance is up for sale if anyone wants it lol.

End of the video is my favorite part 😊

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. Although I didn't place in the talent competition and didn't perform as well as I could have, I am still proud of myself for seizing this opportunity. As some of you may know, dancing was initially prohibited in the competition. When I received the update in late April that dancing was finally allowed, I registered myself despite having nothing prepared.

With only one month of preparation, I managed to choreograph two routines, prepare two outfits, and achieve my fundraising goal of $1000. None of this would have been possible without the help of my mom, who sewed all my outfits, my brothers, who assisted me with my very heavy qeej, and my phauj for helping with the Laotian outfit. Last but not least, special thanks to Sirius for being there from the beginning, staying up with me until 2am for the past two weeks, and waking up early with me for practice. I would also like to express my gratitude to the friends and family who came to watch and supported me throughout this journey.

It has been four years since I last performed, and although I know I could have done better, I am proud of how much I have grown as a choreographer. Looking forward to more performances and competitions.

I had some free time this past weekend and went with a couple friends to the Asian Music Festival at UW-Stevens Point. I love supporting Hmong artists and music.

Can’t wait to get back into performing but for the meanwhile, I’ll continue to watch as the audience!

Green looks better.

I’ve been preparing myself mentally for all the changes that will happen within the next 2-3 months. It’s okay to grow and change. I’ve excited for all the things that are yet to come.
