We all have time for what’s important to us. Don’t use any anything that society would consider roadblocks or obstacles. None of this “I’m too old” or I have this “handicap” or “limitation” etc. Just make it happy. Don’t prioritize your schedule, schedule your priorities.

 Today marks three years since I had my stent put in. I am living proof that exercise can save your life. Family heart history: my father has had 4 heart attacks, my mother has had two, uncle on my father side, cousin on my mother side, and both of my grandfathers had multiple. 

I did not have a heart attack because I was in as good as shape as I was because of consistent exercise. at first, I asked why was this happening to me because I was doing “everything right”. Within three or four days, my mindset changed to this happened BECAUSE I did everything right. Otherwise, it would have been a heart attack. Or, it would’ve happened at 40 years old and not 45 years old.

Think of all the money you invest into Netflix, and HBO Max, and Hulu. Invest some time and money into you. It’s OK if you don’t want to, the insurance companies will just add interest to your medical bills later.

This episode is a thank you to all the coaches that work hard out their with the TEAM'S success being priority! This is based off a post that Coach Ric posted about this past weekend. Thank you to Ric, Maria, Jim, Jennie, and Jenny for helping make our JOAD program successful. Also, thank you to the club's board members, and members in general, who are supportive of out youth program.

I would reword this slightly. I would say, don’t focus on “winning”, because “success” can look like many different things.

My introduction when I coached my kids in youth sports was: “Hello, I’m Coach Jay. I coached high school for 15 years. I don’t care about winning.“

This was for 13U soccer mainly. I would go on to tell them that my job is to teach the kids the game so when they get onto the field in middle school, or more so high school, they would actually know how to work with their teammates.

Too many coaches at the level, let the “good kid” do whatever (s)he wants to do. Usually, he’s not any good at the sport. He’s just bigger and faster, so to the unknown eye, he looks like he’s really good. I would not do that .

You’re going to play offense, you’re going to play defense, you’re going to play on the left and you’re going to play on the right

The one position I would be a little picky with was keeper/goalie. Everyone would ask why my kids get to always play, but theirs didn’t. (My older son started in high school). I would tell the parent I didn’t care if their child gave up two or three goals. I don’t care if they gave up nine goals and we lost 9-1. But what I did care about, is their child sitting in the backseat of the car on the way home crying and thinking that they stink and you don’t show up next Saturday. That is on me.

Being coachable is an extremely valuable asset to have. Finding a coach you connect with will have tremendous contributions to your success. When you find a coach that can teach you the sport/activity you are doing as well as connect with you mentally and emotional, don’t lose that Coach. That connection has so much value that you might not find elsewhere.

Changing phases to supersets. A change is not always about muscular adaptation. It’s not always about shaking the muscle or tracking the muscle or mind, etc. Yes, that does play a part. Our bodies do adapt. But, also, so do our minds. So do our emotions. So do our interest. So making a change also keeps us mentally and emotionally engaged. Consistency is definitely one of the biggest characteristics of success and progress. But you also have to make changes at times to keep moving forward mentally. .

We are all going to have good days and bad days. Or, as I prefer to refer to them, more productive/successful and less productive/successful days. We get our average from our highs and lows. Don’t expect every day to be a new PR (personal record). And remember, if you have a day when your energy level is at 40%, and you give a full 40%, you gave 100% of what was available.

Dewey is a great student, accomplish football player, as well as an amazing archer. He has been selected to represent the United States on the world youth team, which will be traveling to Ireland.

This trip will be self funded by the individual athletes and can exceed $8000 for the athlete and a family member/coach to travel

My family recently watched my uncle through his final days of a five-year battle with prostate cancer. When you look at the life that he lived, mingling with some of the greatest artist in the world, playing music all over, traveling to Europe nine times, living on a sailboat and sailing internationally. His life might’ve only been 68 years long, but it was definitely just as wide.

Don’t wait until it’s too late to start enjoying life. Yes, we need to be responsible and be prepared for the future and pay our bills and all of that. Just make sure you enjoy the ride at the same time. I know I waited too long before I started making myself a priority in the last couple years. I’ve had so much more value than the previous years once I made that change.

Communication has always been important to me. And now I touch on a component of communication… Interpretation. We can all interpret things different. And, of course, if we are unsure on the interpretation, we need to communicate more. Whenever discussing something important, we need to make sure that it is a standalone conversation and doesn’t piggyback another event for topic.

This episode talks about having a new mindset going into 2023. Realizing that you’re not always going to be included, needed, or wanted and being able to focus on moving forward from that. Taking opportunities when you have them realizing they might not be there in the future.
