We felt that The Old Mossback’s hulking stature was a bit intimidating so we’ve decided to take a different approach. Meet Little Mossy. 😏

Hiisi Day is celebrated today, the 28th of March. Hiisi used to refer to holy places, and the creatures guarding them. Hiisi places are located all over Finland and consist of old spiritual nature sites like springs, streams, trees, forests, rocks, and hills. 🌲

The Timi Pine is a 400-year-old pine Hiisi in the village of Timi in the municipality of Hämeenkyrö. At its base, this ancient tree is over 18 feet around, and even though a lot of the time-worn tree looks to be dead wood, it’s still partly alive today. 🌱

Back in the day, people would bring gifts and sacrifices for the Timi Pine and even ask for its healing powers for toothaches and other ailments. According to old traditions and words passed on from one generation to another, the tree was decorated with bear skulls and colorful ribbons.

Today we celebrate “laskiaistiistai” or the “mid-winter sledding festival”. Merrymaking, sledding, and feasts have taken place within communities small and large, all across Finland.

It’s time to say goodbye to the dark winter and hope the warmer, sunnier spring days come soon. ☀️

As the warm glow of Yule Time begins to fade into memory once more, the sharp rap of old gnarled knuckles on wood herald its true end for another year. Masked figures have come by moonlight to demand food and drink in exchange for their favor.

On this night, the Nuuttipukki will ride through villages marking the doors of those who have feasted them well with rune-like symbols. These symbols proclaim the good nature of the inhabitants within.

But there are also those doors that don’t bear the markings of these masked figures… Let’s hope that no one was home.

Old Finnish Yule traditions bring a celebration of joy, harvest year, and the remembrance of passed loved ones. Yule sauna played an important part in cleansing the body and mind, and the foods of the Yule feast were sacrificed to the trolls and sprites for good luck for the following year.

Yuletide joy sparkles in the crisp winter air and now it’s time to calm down for a while. Afterward, it's time to ready ourselves for an upcoming year of adventure.

Music is a language, universally understood. 🎵

Last week, our unbelievably talented Audio Director & Composer Tommi traveled to Finland’s capital Helsinki with hundreds of pages of sheet music to record the score for Among the Trolls.

We’re incredibly excited to hear how the world of Among the Trolls is coming to life

TGIF! Weekends are great for short camping trips and going on adventures.

In Among the Trolls, camping and survival are key components of the gameplay, and we've just finished some work on camping related assets such as campfires and backpacks.

Campfires and other fire sources can be used for cooking and preparing remedies in the game. You will also need many other tools to survive in the wilderness, such as the knife pictured here.

We are making some good progress with the demo development.

For the past couple of weeks we have been designing rough drafts for inventory/UI functionality and style, and started to program these systems. We also have a new backpack model to show. Pics galore!

Among the Trolls is a first-person survival game where the widely idolized off-grid lifestyle intertwines with the Northern folklore and its creatures lurking in the deep forests. In addition to the system-based survival, the game features an engaging narrative and RPG elements.

We are alive!

Hello, world. We are Forbidden Studios, an independent game studio founded by game industry veterans.

Today we are excited to announce the name of our first game, "Among the Trolls"!

We started developing the demo in the beginning of the year and will be dropping small "nuggets" of cool info about the game in the upcoming months, so stay a while and listen!

For starters, we want to bring you some art of the very first assets for the game, enjoy!

Oh, and our website is finally online! Phew.
