You know some parts of SD do get snow sooner than others. Hint hint, wink wink. Our first taste icy weather may show it's ugly face out in western SD for the start of your week next week. Don't worry though some areas will experience 70's before the blast of cold air arrives. Here is part of my list for getting prepared for winter. It is never to early to be prepared.

This is on average when Sioux Falls SD starts seeing measurable snow. How will this season measure up. Well with a very weak La Nina weather pattern it is anyones guess really. As our nights continue to get colder and the sun hides from our viewing sooner and sooner it's only a matter of time before we will need to trade the rain coats for winter coats.

Warning!!! This is only from one weather model for Saturday 10/18/25 around 10pm CDT. What is a PDS TOR? This stands for Potential Dangerous Situation and TOR of course stands for Tornado. This is for the state of Arkansas but there is also potential for Louisiana to have severe weather as well on Saturday into Sunday. Now the map image this is the coordinates of where this one model suggests a PDS Tor will occur. As you can see it is litterally in the middle of the Ozark National Forest in Batson, Arkansas. Chasing tornadoes in the plains is one thing but those that chase tornadoes in this type of terrain. Well, lets just say I hope they have offline maps and multiple escape routes cause with all those trees. This could go sideways in a quick hurry if you are not on your A game. Best of wishes to all those veteran chasers that plan on chasing this weekends beast of a storm.

I have been busy. I’m upgrading my tornado model for public weather education and presentations. This will be spinning with lightning flashes. What y’all think.

I am late to report this upgraded damage assessment from 6/20/25. Reed Timmer Extreme Meteorologist said it best in his briefing yesterday. This would not have been a good tornado to intercept. As some of you know on this day I was stuck on the western half of North Dakota as a derecho event made it's way eastward. Lord works in ways that we cannot imagine but with good reason. I truly believe my free will got me in the derecho but once I was it was God who protected me from being able to go any further east. This was to protect me against this monster of a tornado.

Couple more days of warmer than average temperatures then more seasonable temperatures hit us.

Primary severe threats today are wind and hail. In the slight risk area I still believe there will be enough elements for an isolated tornado. If I was desperate enough to chase this low risk I would setup near Cheyanne, Wyoming. There is that risk though that all of this could turn into a straightline wind event.
