My friend Rob Meurer was tragically killed in a hit and run car accident outside his home in Studio City, Los Angeles.
He was the unsung hero, co-writer and collaborator of 5 time Grammy and Oscar winner Christopher Cross (Sailing, Ride Like The Wind, Arthur's Theme).
Today would have been Rob’s birthday.
He was taken away far too soon and never fully got the recognition he truly deserved in his own lifetime.
In his memory, I have covered one of his songs, the forgotten gem, “A Fisherman’s Tale” from the Christopher Cross album, “Rendezvous”.
I think the message in the song is a fitting tribute to him.
This recording features special guests Tommy Taylor and Andy Salmon, Rob's friends and fellow members of the original Christopher Cross band.
It forms part of a whole album project in Rob's memory, a cover of the entire Rendezvous album, an album that Rob co-wrote and produced, that working on helped get him sober.
Doing this also helped me, in ways it's hard to fully explain.
I will be telling Rob's story in the upcoming podcast series "Flamingos, Feuds & Fairytales: A Yacht Rock Story”
How wonderful it would be to get as many people to hear his songs as possible and to fully understand his story. So, please, if you can, share this post with your friends.
Rob Meurer (1950 - 2016) RIP
