🚨SCAM ALERT🚨
This morning I came accross a post where someone I knew had their car stolen.
As I was writing my condolences I noticed several strange comments, the first of which looked quite convincing as it did not contain a link.
The posts talked about going to a profile on Instagram who could help to “track” the stolen car.
After noticing several more comments below that did contain links alarm bells went off and I realised these were all scammers trying to pray on a horrible circumstance that had just happened.
I messaged one of the Instagram profiles and you can see the messages if you scroll through.
You can even see in their profile that it says something about not being scammed to try and sound more convincing.
Just a reminder to stay vigilant, although it might seem like a nice gesture to track your car. NEVER give out information to someone you don’t know.
If the VIN number had been supplied this allows the scammer to be able to clone your VIN number and then use your own number plate on stolen cars.
In other cases they may pretend to have located your vehicle but will try to extort money before giving you its location.
Please share this around and report the profiles so they can’t continue to do this.
