Rietvlei, or in my case RICHvlei, boy oh boy.

Wife and I decide we need a session as we have not spend a full day together since 26 of december 2023, our work schedules have been mental.
We decide that a new venue is in order and we prep well and off we mosey into a brand new lake and we KNOW its a hard venue especially just doing a day session, armed with RiCh International oceano krill and my trusty fish particles and goo's I started working the swim, leading, clipping, spombing, and ripping..

Wifey, after an hour of having a rod out lands her first fish in a very long time and she and I are elated as this day was for her, i so so badly wanted her to land a fish and low and behold on a venue that most proficient anglers often blank my machine of a wife pulls out a small but very welcome and applauded fish,

9.55 a.m is the time.. my hopes dwindle as it is SCORTCHING but nonetheless wife is here, we are having a great time, i've blanked before, meh lets have a "lekker day" was my inner thought,

10.02 am
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep singletone for days and I'm into my FIRST fish of 2024 a stunning 8.5kg common

Urban lake smash.. Armand Olivier and I do our first night session together at a urban lake near his home, venue renowned for beautiful mirrors and a few 20 pounders cruising about, we did not manage to entice those, but we did manage to land these two gold bars fishing swims that only the most daring of angler would try fishing around reed beds these two gave us a run for our money in a snaggy and access limited swim,BUT WE WON THE BATTLE!! Now lets get those sought after 20's!

As usual I fished my true trusted and once again succesfull

THE BRACE AT BERGSIG.

What is better than one common?
Two of them, so this is the last of my bergsig fish landed that weekend.
Having caught my new p.b the night prior and knowing it was my p.b i was more than content with my session,but bergsig had one last jewel to reward me with!
Early sunday morning was met with excitement as I was doing photos with my p.b common as I stepped into the lake to lift her, my daiwa black widow bent around and I had a SCREAMER much to my audience's delight.

I fought this fish into the net and had a brace of commons next to each other.

Here is the result of hard persistant work, good planning and the game changing edge of OCÉANO KRILL.
Keeping it real simple with a german rig and a stick mix of boilies, a snowman presentation and well the results speak for themselves!

48 Hours, new friends, a boat ride and RiCh International baits ofcourse!

Friday arrives, our local park lake is the place, carp is the target.. Armand Olivier and i arrive fashionably late thanks to my schedule and we meet Migz at the venue...
Lets get fishing!!
Unpack, rigs on, bait prepped, rods out, Here we go!!

Night 1.... fishless..(not bothered this venue isn't the quick bite type.

Day 2; tactic change, boat inflated off we go Armand and I rowing against some rough winds. First rod in... we stuff it up ROYALLY.. but we are learning, round two lets try again... off we go fresh bait ,ocèano krill of course. A helping of particle and a german rig has now found its way to the bottom of this margin and I'm happy.. let's wait and see..

Night 2.. fishless.. hmmmm I think well I've learnt alot and I've blanked here before. I'm getting better and better everytime. Armand and I are keeping our spirits high.

Day 2: Head over to Migz for a cuppa, his words to me were : "I'm bleak"
My response: "me too bruv, but we learnt alot and we'll be back"

30mins later Migz lands a beautiful common!!(not massive but after 48 hrs we WILL take it..)

Huge win well done Migz.. off we go to finish our pack up...

15mins in.. Armand turns to me "JOU STOK OU!!"

and it takes me a few seconds and I'm into a fish and about 6meters worth of lillies about 160m away..LOVELY! PLUS OUR BOATS GONE FLAT!!
Migz gets into the water with me,who now has not even put the wader on, waist deep in the grass . Armand and uncle off to pump the boat.. for ten minutes ...which felt like 7 days..

Boat in, I'm in, Migz in, Arras in, off we go.. we're FETCHING this vissie!

After a lenghty battle she made it into the net and we made it back onto dry land..

A quick photo session followed by a release, although this fish wasn't big.. it was worth its weight in gold for the momories that will go along with it..

Migz, Armand ,boys thanks for all your help as I would'nt be making this post if it weren't for your help!

Two weekends no blank...
Must be something i got from uncle Jules... dankie oom! Your baits gave me an edge once again for a venue that im known to dred! CONFIDENCE has been levelled up!

The weekend at Bergsig Trout Farm ..

A tale of a dream come true..

The 4th of november rolled around and the day of my first true specimen session has arrived, much nerves and much anticipation has led us here and now here we are..
Prior to arrival i discussed at length my ideas of approach with my pegmate Armand Olivier , we came to a conclussion and we were amped.
I then as usual relied on true and trusted advice from Miguel Alexandre Pereira whom was familiar with the venue, and i thought my gameplan was set!!

IT WASNT...

So for a few weeks now ive followed RiCh International and i've watched their baits land some amazing fish.. and i KNEW if i wanted an edge at this highly pressured venue baiting with the right stuff was the critical advantage i would need.
And i knew i needed to get my hands on some.. oceano krill ASAP!

Miguel was kind enough to introduce me to Jules Chame, we had a nice chat and by the end i had some of his boilies arranged. I was AMPED!
So blessed and humbled that such a well known and prolific angler is willing to give me a shot fishing with his baits.
But se,I knew oceano krill was going to be my edge. And i stuck to my guns..
I made the pitstop to meet Jules at florida lake in roodepoort and picked up my baits for the weekend ahead.. had a few words and advices from the guys.. and got going to our venue..

Arrival 18:30 friday night... darkness...
Setting up in darkness. (Well if alan blair and olie davies from Nash Tackle can do it so could i)
I got fishing just after 9p.m, fishing close margins..
I baited hard friday night with my tactic always being to only get on the fish on saturday through sunday ..
Bergsig had other plans...
Saturday morning shortly after my 15 min nap from being awake 24 hrs my left hand bleeped off whilst i was putting a backlead onto the right hander.
And i was into my first fish... WHAT!!! less than 12hrs and im on?!?
She broke surface. MY FIRST MIRROR!!
I immediately started shaking...
And what a fish she was!! I was beyond ecstatic!!

Saturday was spent with me and Armand ubducting barbel and bass with 5 ft rods and worm..
We stacked so many up we lost count!! One of my favorite days on the bank by far....

Saturday night we had a braai all on swim 6.. and.. i heard the destinct noise of my alarm single toning.. i RAN lifting up my trusted diawa black widow.. i felt i was into something that may be my second bucket... (it was)
P.b common done!!!
We retained her for morning photos.. i was BUZZING
knowing my p.b is right there..

Sunday morning.. we setup for photos.. we are just about to take the last of my common and my black widow screams into life.. WHAT!! no way i'm there in a flash.. Werner from Bloodline Carping taking care of my previous capture..

Another nice common in the bag after a lenghty battle..

Two retainers, two fish, one me.. im beyond myself ..

30 july 2023........ the coldest morning I've ever had on the bank!!

Story time: Benoni the home of a lake known as homestead, a lake renowned for its large carp and notorious difficulty and ability to make the most formidable anglers doubt themselves to the point of giving up(this is where I was headed into this session)

After numerous sessions spent feeding the fish and just feeding them not having even a liner!!!
My confidence kept falling and falling with each session, leaving me wondering if actually landing a fish from here again was just not meant for me.

So my good mate Johan Kirsten and I decide we will give it a go about 3 weeks back...
24 hrs pass and im FISHLESS yet again..
Another blank session.
Needles to say at this point im gutted and absolutely negative to the highest point with angling this dam!! I take myself off the venue and have a few weeks away and research and chat to a few guys about this beast of a lake..
Baring in mind numerous of my angling buddies including Johan have now in winter broken their p.b's here. Fish are coming out in numbers! Ryno Bezuidenhout smashes a 14kg monster....

So here we are 29 july 2023 ryno and i decided we must fish together..

I arrive at 6am and i start WORKING and i mean WORKING the swim.. i plot and dot and lead and wade out looking.. i formulate a plan for the day.. we get hit with 30+kmph winds... my pod gets destroyed by my boat being blown out the water.. HERE WE GO I RECKON another day of chaos ...

The whole day passes... NOTHING!! now doubt starts setting in.... am i blanking again!!!

No!! Evening will bring the fish(so i thought) at 5 am im litterally frozen to my chair.. still FISHLESS!!

8AM its so flippen cold I phone my wife.. "nope im out this sucks its p**s cold,windy and 'AS USUAL I'VE BLANKED!"

AND THEN!!!............

HOMESTEAD REWARDED ME..
