The Kulucochi community in Gunjur are advocating for the Government and the National Road Authority to repair the road that connects the fishing centre to the main highway which was tampered by the Chinese Fish mill factory operating at the fishing centre.

Currently, the road is in the worst state since the fishing centre was established, the road emits dust when vehicles drive pass leading to series of negative effects such as dust pollution, health problems, and accidents.

This a documentary brought to you by Eco-Travel Gambia, showcasing affected residents, businesses and commuters as they talk about the conditions they are living with caused by the Dust Road.

KARTONG VILLAGE RECEIVES ANOTHER LETTER FROM NEA.

After a community meeting was held on the 17th September 2022, the Village Development Committee of Kartong were then assigned to carry forward the action plans that were laid during the community gathering. One of the task for the committee was to write a letter that will communicate the concerns of the entire village on the sand mining matter, to the National Environment Agency.

The VDC wrote the letter and sent it to the NEA at the same time copying other relevant departments. The letter from the VDC impressed the NEA and convinced the agency into inviting key stakeholders within the community of Kartong and other parties involved in the SAND MINING matter.

On 24th September 2022, the Kartong VDC decided to gather the community once more to give feedback to its citizens and also to continue the communities campaign of stopping the mining from happening. In the meeting both letters from the NEA and the VDC were read and translated to the public. The gathering also hosted other concerned Environmentalist and Advocacy groups from the Gambia and the Diaspora.

In this Video, Hatab Jaiteh the spokesperson of the VDC was interviewed by Alfusainey Sey, Chief Producer of Shoreline TV, shared the gatherings agenda.
