This is the shocking moment an alleged drink driver crashed into the Go Local Extra store in Wingate yesterday morning (Friday 1 November)
Footage released by the store today online shows the car losing control as it travelled along North Road East before mounting the pavement and missing a house, parked car and telegraph pole by inches, it then goes into the front of the shop before flipping onto its side and coming to a rest in the middle of the road.
The driver and passenger were both taken to hospital, with the driver arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
A female from the Bishop Auckland area has been issued a Fixed Penalty Notice after throwing waste into a private property.

Around 9:30am today, Wednesday 30th October, police received a report that a heavy goods vehicle had tipped onto its side on the A689 at Stockton Road/Owton Manor Lane.
A road closure was put in place westbound between Brenda Road and Seaton Lane whilst the road was cleared by council colleagues.
The driver, a 23-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment for a minor injury to his arm.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He remains in police custody at this time.

Officers carried out a drugs warrant at an address in Kenny Walk, Newton Aycliffe, this morning.
Both suspected Class A and Class C drugs were recovered along with £1,500 in cash.
A woman in her 50s and a man in his 20s were arrested at the scene and are currently in custody.

Marie Johnson lost her parents in a catastrophic motorway collision in 2021, when lorry driver Ion Nicu Onut failed to stop in time for stationary traffic.
He had been using his mobile phone.
In March, Durham Constabulary’s Victim Care & Advice Service facilitated a meeting between Marie and Ion.
“In my head I wanted him to be a monster,” she said, “but he wasn’t. He was just a normal man.
“It was like having a conversation with a friend about what we’d been through. I never gave it a thought that this man was the man that killed my parents.”

Police were called shortly before 5am this morning (August 13) to reports of a vehicle ramming through a fence near Coxhoe.
The caller reported that the vehicle was trying to break through the fence in an attempt burglary but appeared to be stuck.
After multiple failed attempts, the driver and two occupants are believed to have set the vehicle alight next to a housing estate and ran off into the field.
PD Rudy, who was deployed to the scene to look for the suspects quickly picked up a scent and led his handler, PC Wallace straight to one of the offenders.
Three boys, aged 15, 16 and 17 were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, theft of a motor vehicle, criminal damage, possession of a bladed article, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence.
The vehicle involved is also believed to have been stolen and will now be examined as part of the investigation.

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a stabbing in Darlington.
Shortly before 2.30pm today, officers were called to the Eastbourne Road area of the town following reports that a man had been stabbed.
Police, including armed officers, attended the scene and found the victim in Louisa Street. He was taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for treatment to a single stab wound to the back.
A suspect has been arrested. It is believed that this was a targeted attack and there is no risk to the wider public.
Two police cordons have been put in place in the area and it is expected there will be a large police presence for some time.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident 209 of July 29th.
Video footage taken from the scene shows the Yorkshire Air Ambulance leaving and returning to their base.
B6278 Bus Fire
Dramatic footage has captured a serious fire onboard a school bus in County Durham this morning.
Earlier today, emergency services were called to a bus fire on the B6278 between Barnard Castle and Egglestone.
The bus, which was transporting children to a school in Barnard Castle when it caught fire, was completely destroyed, thankfully all students onboard were safely evacuated.
A County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.29am to reports of a bus fire on the B6278 near Barnard Castle.
"Crews from Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale attended and used four breathing apparatus and three hose reels to tackle the fire, before leaving the scene at 9.59am"

This is the moment a dangerous driver on Durham Constabulary's most wanted list tried to flee after hitting an innocent motorist at 80mph.
Officers chased down Aaron Drummond as he scrambled out of the window of the white Ford Transit van he crashed on the outskirts of Darlington on Friday (June 7).
The 25-year-old, of Southend Avenue, Darlington, was arrested at the scene and charged with several offences, including driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, and driving with no insurance.
He appeared before magistrates on Monday (June 10) where he pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody ahead on his sentencing at Teesside Crown Court on July 8.
Drummond was just one of Darlington’s most wanted apprehended by officers in the last seven days.
He joins:
• Jonathan Watson, 37, of no fixed abode, who was sentenced to four months in prison and ordered to pay compensation for a burglary and three shoplifting offences.
• Ayden Sean Carrick, 32, of Yarm Road, who has started a six-week prison sentence for breaching his Domestic Violence Protection Order.
• Alexander Thurgood, 40, of Thomas Court, Darlington, who has been charged with burglary.
• Kerry Nevison, 44, of West Moor Road, Darlington,, who has been charged with robbery.
• Lee Corrie, 30, of Severn Way, Darlington, who has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
• David Soley, 40, of Corbridge Crescent, Darlington, who has been charged with burglary and possession of a controlled drug.
• Daniel Christopher Murphy, 29, of Gladstone Street, Darlington, who has been charged with attempted robbery and vehicle interference.
• Matthew Stobie, 39, of Wolsingham Terrace, Darlington, who has been charged with criminal damage and aggravated burglary.
Chief Inspector Dean Haythornthwaite, from Darlington Police, said: “These are just some of the positive results achieved by our hardworking teams over the last seven days.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, PC Wallace and his trusty K9 PD Ruddy were dispatched to assist with locating a man who was believed to have made off from the scene of a collision in Burnhope.
PD Rudy, who only qualified a week ago was quick to pick up a scent and led PC Wallace on a trail towards the suspect.
The pair located the man attempting to hide in a nearby garden.
A 35-year-old man was arrested by colleagues after attending hospital and later charged with failing to stop and failure to provide a specimen.
He is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates court on June 13.

In the early hours of this morning (May 21), PCs Cave and Willingham travelled to Bishop Auckland following reports of an alarm activation at a premises on Newgate Street.
The officers carried out a quick search of the area and found the suspect hiding behind a door in a last attempt to dodge police.
The suspect was red-dotted before he surrendered and followed the officers instructions.
A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently in the cells.
He will be interviewed later today 📝
A man has been given a prison sentence after he knocked two women to the ground while carrying out a theft in Peterlee.
Stephen Jack Thomas Wray, of no fixed abode, entered Iceland in Peterlee town centre on Thursday, April 4, at around 3pm and proceeded to grab a leg of lamb from one of the freezers.
When running from the shop with the stolen item, Wray collided with two women in their 70s, knocking both of them to the ground.
Both were required to attend hospital for their injuries.
Officers later found 23-year-old Wray heavily intoxicated and arrested him on suspicion of theft and assault.
During the arrest, Wray became increasingly agitated and further assaulted two female police officers.
When asked during interview whether he felt any remorse for the incidents, Wray replied ‘no comment’.
Wray was charged with two counts of assault, two counts of assaulting a police officer, and theft.
Appearing at Durham Crown Court on Friday, May 10, he was sent to prison for 3 years and 8 months.

Go North East Drivers Under Investigation After Drag Racing Incident at Metrocentre.
Footage has appeared on social media platform “TikTok” showing Go North East buses carrying out a make shift drag race in the coach park of the Metro-centre following an event there on Sunday 5th May 2024
During the footage a number of Go North East branded vehicles can be seen revving their engines before taking off in a drag strip with a number of members of public watching on.
The videos have since been taken down from the social media platform however Go North East have since issued a statement to drivers:
“We are aware of an incident involving Go North East vehicles which took place during the NEBPT Bus Rally at Metrocentre last weekend, an investigation is being conducted into the events of the day and as with all incidents involving go north east employees, this will be completed on a confidential basis”
The statement later goes on to add “Requests for vehicles to attend external events must be approved by a company director and additionally a senior member of staff must be present at the events”
