Slide-Rock Bolter (Macrostoma saxiperrumptus) is a bizarre creature recounted by the lumberjacks of North America during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is believed to live in the mountains of Colorado, but this beast only lived in the mountains where the slope was more than a 45-degree angle. It has an immense head, with small eyes, and a large mouth. It has a tail ending in a fluke like a dolphin, with enormous grab-hooks.

All day long this creature will just wait for a tourist or helpless creature below it. At the right moment, it will lift its tail, thus loosening its hold on the mountain, and descend rapidly down the slope. With the beast’s mouth wide open it would swallow all that got in its way. Whole parties of tourists are reported to have been gulped up in one scoop by taking parties far back into the hills. Its body is also so large and strong that trees in its path are broken and destroyed. Its own impetus carries it up the next slope, where it again slaps its tail over the ridge and waits.

The phenomenon, which became big news among the residents of the small village of Kitui, started when someone noticed that a mango on a nearby tree happened to have a human-like face.
Before long, word had got around, resulting in hundreds of people turning out to see it.

Footage that was later posted online showed the level of interest the unusual fruit had managed to elicit, with crowds of people queuing up in an attempt to get close enough to take photographs.

The mango itself doesn't seem particular remarkable, although it does at least have a 'face' of sorts.

Some social media users expressed puzzlement at the spectacle, while others were quick to dismiss the entire thing as little more than a case of pareidolia.

Exactly what will be done with the mango once it is picked however remains unclear.

Knecht Ruprecht is Saint Nicholas' most familiar attendant in Germany. According to some stories, Ruprecht began as a farmhand; in others, he is a wild foundling whom Saint Nicholas raises from childhood.
According to tradition, Knecht Ruprecht asks children whether they can pray. If they can, they receive apples, nuts and gingerbread. If they cannot, he hits the children with his bag of ashes.
In other versions of the story, Knecht Ruprecht gives naughty children gifts such as lumps of coal, sticks, and stones, while well-behaving children receive sweets from Saint Nicholas. He is also reported to give naughty children a switch (stick) in their shoes for their parents to hit them with, instead of sweets, fruit and nuts, in the German tradition.

The extraordinary specimen spotted in Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast, Queensland, is the larvae of one of Australia's most threatened species - the endangered Pink Underwing Moth.
The rare caterpillar is characterized by a set of teeth-like markings set between two dark spots that resemble eyes with large pupils.
In an effort to deter predators the caterpillar will arch its 12cm long back to reveal a pair of frightening spots that resemble a sunken cartoon skull.

During their 'startle display' strategy the larvae will lunge at predators including birds and spiders to scare them away.
Once the caterpillar has grown into a moth it resembles dead brown eucalyptus leaves, with its brown forewings extending out to 6cm when at rest.
