Developer Aggro Crab, the studio behind 2020's Going Under and the publisher of 2021's Subway Midnight, revealed Another Crab's Treasure during a Nintendo Direct last year. The studio says this demo will feature two explorable areas: The Moon Caves, which is Another Crab's Treasure's tutorial area, and The Expired Grove.

29/09/2023

Sony kicked off a September 2021 PlayStation Showcase by formally revealing a rumored remake of the classic RPG, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, for PlayStation 5. That was the last we heard of it, though, save for a Bloomberg report the following year that stated the project was on indefinite development hold as a result of major staff departures.

Now, it seems Sony and PlayStation are removing most traces of the KOTOR remake, deleting tweets and hiding the reveal trailer on its YouTube channel, as reported by Kotaku.

Yesterday, on the Gaming Leaks And Rumors subreddit, user TricolorChutoy posted that the 2021 PlayStation Showcase KOTOR remake reveal trailer had been recently delisted. That same day, Twitter user Crusader II Elessar posted the same thing, noting, however, that in the full 2021 PlayStation Showcase video, the KOTOR remake trailer remained. With some more digging, Crusader II Elessar found that PlayStation had seemingly deleted every tweet mentioning the remake, save for the one below that also mentions other games.

Stay tuned after the Showcase! We’ll have more updates from the teams behind:

🔵 God of War Ragnarök

🔵 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Remake

🔵 Updates on other new PlayStation Studios titles

— PlayStation () September 9, 2021

Furthermore, with some Wayback Machine tinkering, they learned that a 2022 snapshot of PlayStation's Twitter showed that a different tweet exclusively about the KOTOR remake still existed, meaning its deletion happened between last year and now.

Game Informer has reached out to Sony and PlayStation about the hidden trailer and deleted tweets and will update this story if comment or statement is received.

As for speculation on why PlayStation might be doing this, it stems from the remake's developer: Aspyr Media. Aspyr is owned by Embracer Group, which has been canceling games and closing studios in light of a current "restructuring program." After Embracer Group was "informed that one major strategic partnership that has been negotiated for seven months will not materialize," or in other words, the collapse of a $2 billion deal as reported by Video Games Chronicle, it implemented this restructuring program.

Given all of that, it wouldn't be surprising if Aspyr, which Embracer Group acquired in 2021, was affected by the restructuring and the KOTOR remake project canceled. However, with no official word on the project, that's speculation for now.

Sega, the publisher behind next month's Sonic Superstars, has canceled some unannounced titles in development and Creative Assembly's first-person shooter, Hyenas. The company cites "lower profitability of the European region."

As a result of the lower profitability, Sega reviewed various in-development projects from its developers in Europe and the result is the cancelation of Hyenas, which just finished up a closed beta on PC less than a week ago, and some other unannounced games. Eurogamer reports that layoffs at Creative Assembly are expected in the wake of this decision.

"We will implement reduction of various fixed expenses at several group companies in relevant region, centered on the Creative Assembly Ltd.," a Sega press release reads. "We expect to incur one-time expenses related to reduction of fixed expenses. We will continue to consider measures to improve profitability in European bases apart from above. We will announce the specific details and impact from them as soon as we make a decision."

Sega says as a result of this structural reform, it expects to record losses of approximately 14.3 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, but that "there are no changes to the full-year consolidated operating results forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, at this time."

Sega revealed Hyenas as a first-person multiplayer, multi-team heist shooter experience set in space with a p***y comic book aesthetic in 2022. It has been playable in recent closed betas.

Announced earlier this year and releasing about four days shy of its promised Summer release window (the first day of Fall was September 23), Counter-Strike 2 is now suddenly available on Steam. You can check out the game's launch trailer below.

The game has been playable in limited test form for some time, and rumors were swirling that the game would release soon, but it is still a surprise to see the game suddenly available on Steam. It has taken over Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's spot on Steam and functions as an update to that game.

Below you will find some details from a press release for the game's official release.

Built on the Source 2 engine, Counter-Strike 2 is modernized with realistic physically-based rendering, state of the art networking, and upgraded Community Workshop tools.

In addition to the classic objective-focused gameplay that Counter-Strike pioneered in 1999, Counter-Strike 2 features:

All-new CS Ratings with the updated Premier mode

Global and Regional leaderboards

Upgraded and overhauled maps

Game-changing dynamic smoke grenades

Tick-rate-independent gameplay

Netflix announced in 2021 that it was developing an animated Tomb Raider series starring Lara Croft. Shortly after, Netflix revealed that Hayley Atwell, whom you might recognize as Grace from this year's Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning or as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, would voice Lara Croft in the series. Today, Netflix released our first look at the series, which is called Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.

There's no word on when to expect the series, but Netflix says it's coming to the subscription streaming service soon.

Check out the Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft teaser trailer for yourself below:

As you can see in the teaser above, this take on Lara Croft seemingly follows the recent Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider reboot trilogy that concluded with 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Back in 2021, when Netflix announced Atwell's role in the show, it confirmed the series would take place after the events of that trilogy. Looking at this teaser, it's hard to say whether or not that's the case. But it sounds like we won't have to wait long to find out since Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is expected to hit Netflix soon.

In the meantime, check out the teaser trailer for Netflix's Devil May Cry anime series released today as well. In terms of new Tomb Raider games, the first three PlayStation 1 titles are getting remastered next year.

Netflix has revealed the first look at its Devil May Cry anime series coming to the subscription streaming service soon. First announced in 2018, it is being developed by Capcom, Studio Mir, and Netflix's Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar.

Netflix announced this anime today with a short teaser trailer that gives us our first look at its Dante, who is, of course, escaping a would-be death by sword while firing off bullets from his two trademark pistols. The short snippets of animation we see in the teaser look great, just like Netflix's Castlevania series and its upcoming Castlevania: Nocturne anime, and you can check it out for yourself below:

Netflix revealed little else about the show although it did call today's teaser a "SSStylish first look." There is no release date for Netflix's Devil May Cry but Netflix says it's coming soon.

27/09/2023

PlayStation has revealed its October 2023 lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus members and, with it being the month of Halloween, the selections definitely fit the vibe. That's because PlayStation Plus subscribers can add Dead Space spiritual successor, The Callisto Protocol, to their libraries alongside Weird West and the ultra-terrifying Farming Simulator 22. All three games can be added to libraries starting next week on Tuesday, October 3, and players have until Monday, November 6, to do so.

Below, we've included snippets of what PlayStation has to say about each game alongside our reviews (when applicable):

The Callisto Protocol

Game Informer's review

"In this narrative-driven, third-person survival horror set 300 years in the future, take on the role of Jacob Lee – a victim of fate thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. When inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the prison is thrown into chaos. To survive, Jacob must battle his way to safety to escape Black Iron Prison, while uncovering the dark and disturbing secrets buried beneath the surface of Callisto. Using a unique blend of shooting and close-quarters combat, Jacob will need to adapt his tactics to combat the rapidly evolving creatures while scavenging to unlock new weapons, gear, and abilities to outrun the growing threat and escape the horrors of Jupiter’s Dead Moon."

Weird West

Game Informer's review

"Discover a dark fantasy reimagining of the Wild West where lawmen and gunslingers share the frontier with fantastical creatures, each playing with their own rules and their own peculiar motives in this isometric action RPG. The game supports different styles of play in a simulated sandbox world where characters, factions, and even places react to a player’s decisions, and players are faced with brutal choices and consequences that can’t be undone – including death. Discover the world through origin stories of different characters, moving from one character’s journey to the next until all converge in a final chapter."

Farming Simulator 22

"Take on the role of a modern farmer and creatively build your farm in three diverse American and European environments. Farming Simulator 22 offers a huge variety of farming operations focusing on agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry – now with the exciting addition of seasonal cycles! More than 400 machines and tools from over 100 real agricultural brands like John Deere, CLAAS, Case IH, New Holland, Fendt, Massey Ferguson, Valtra and many more are included to sow and harvest crops like wheat, corn, potatoes and cotton. New machine categories and crops add new gameplay mechanics to the experience. Run your farm cooperatively in multiplayer and extend the game by a multitude of free community-created modifications. Farming Simulator 22 offers more player freedom than ever before and challenges you to become a successful farmer – so start farming and let the good times grow!"

Before all three of these games go live for PlayStation Plus members next week, subscribers still have time to add this month's offerings – Saints Row, Black Desert: Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero – to their libraries.

Are you going to play any of these next month? Let us know in the comments below!

26/09/2023

Don't Nod Entertainment, the studio behind Life is Strange, revealed its action RPG, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, during The Game Awards last year. Earlier this year, in June, Don't Nod announced Banishers will be released in November but today, the studio delayed its release to next year. More specifically, Banishers will now hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 13, 2024.

As for why, Don't Nod CEO Oskar Guilbert says the team is aiming for a "less saturated period" of video game releases, alluding to the swath of games releasing in the coming weeks, including next month's Assassin's Creed Mirage, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and more (and that's just some of what's releasing in October, which then leads right into November).

"We have decided to postpone the release of this new franchise by three months, as the market is experiencing an intense release cycle for AAA titles on PC and consoles at the end of the year," Guilbert writes in a press release. "We are convinced that a commercial release of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden during a less saturated period will give it the attention it deserves."

Don't Nod follows a growing trend of smaller developers announcing delays in light of major upcoming releases. Summefall Studios delayed Stray Gods: The Role-Playing Musical to get its release away from Baldur's Gate 3, and in August, Ubisoft pushed Assassin's Creed Mirage's release date up a week. While Ubisoft didn't say why, a look at October's release date calendar makes the message clear (although admittedly, that's speculation on our end). Alone in the Dark was pushed to January to avoid Spider-Man 2's blast radius. And last month, Remedy Entertainment delayed Alan Wake 2 by 10 days to give players "space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games."

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 13, 2024.

21/09/2023

Assassin's Creed Nexus VR hits Meta Quest devices in less than two months on November 16. This release date was revealed in a new gameplay trailer from IGN for Assassin's Creed Nexus VR, which gives us another look at the game's three protagonist assassins: Ezio from Assassin's Creed II, Connor from Assassin's Creed III, and Kassandra from Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

In the trailer, we get a look at how combat and parkour will work in the game. As expected, given the game is a VR exclusive title, everything happens from a first-person perspective. As Connor, players will explore 18th Century America during the American Revolution. As Ezio, players will parkour through 15th Century Italy during the Italian Renaissance, and as Kassandra, players will fight as a mercenary assassin through ancient Greece.

Check out the Assassin's Creed Nexus VR gameplay trailer for yourself below:

As you can see, Assassin's Creed Nexus VR looks pretty much exactly as you'd expect for an Assassin's Creed game in VR. All the assassin tropes are still there, fortunately, like leaps of faith, hidden blades, parkour, and more.

21/09/2023

Ubisoft has announced Tom Clancy's The Division 3 and Massive Entertainment, the Sweden-based company behind the first two Division games and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, is developing it. The studio announced this in a new post on Twitter today, linking to a blog discussing the threequel. In it, Ubisoft reveals that Star Wars Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty will take over as The Division brand's executive producer once Outlaws ships.

Gerighty joined The Division team as an associate creative director in 2014. After Massive shipped the first Division game, Gerighty moved onto Tom Clancy's The Division 2 as creative director. As executive producer of the brand, Gerighty will work on The Division 3 and other projects set in The Division universe like Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence on mobile and the survival-action shooter, Tom Clancy's The Division Heartland.

Julian Gerighty has been appointed Executive Producer for the Tom Clancy’s The Division brand. Julian will oversee all games and products, including Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, led by Massive Entertainment who is actively building a team for the game.

— Massive Entertainment - A Ubisoft Studio 🎮 () September 21, 2023

Ubisoft says The Division 2 will remain "well supported" even while Massive works on The Division 3.

"We may have over 40 million players, but The Division is still in its early years as a franchise," Gerighty writes in the Ubisoft blog. "There are so many incredible stories to tell, places to explore, and people to protect.

"I think that we delivered that with Tom Clancy's The Division's cutting-edge visuals, incredible gameplay, and promise to the player that they can't get this experience anywhere else, and then again with Tom Clancy's The Division 2. It's about refinement, it's about pushing the quality bar consistently forward."

Gerighty will remain on Star Wars Outlaws until it launches sometime next year.

Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the biggest games of the year, but it launched with its fair share of bugs. Luckily, developer Larian Studios has released two major patches to the game, and while the third was set to release today, it's been delayed to tomorrow. In a post on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, the developers announced the patch would be delayed "to ensure thorough testing." This is likely done to avoid the issue they ran into when they had to roll back a hotfix last month.

While we know the patch has been delayed, before now we didn't have much of an idea of what that patch included. While specific bug fixes are still unknown, Larian tweeted about a new feature to expect tomorrow: the ability to change your character's appearance. This includes details like pronouns, voice actor, and specific facial features, but notably does not allow you to change your race, which could alter the story depending on your choice.

With Patch 3 comes the Magic Mirror, which lives in your camp and allows you to change your Tav’s appearance whenever you’d like!

Even though the patch plans have been derailed, Baldur's Gate 3 still launches on Mac today, so if you've been meaning to grab it on that platform, now's the chance to do so. We'd highly recommend it, and you can read about why in our glowing review of the game. If you've been playing the game and enjoying it, maybe it's a sign you should try D&D, the game it's based on, as well.

21/09/2023

Swery-led studio White Owls Inc. and Suda51 of Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio behind the No More Heroes Series, have teamed up to develop Hotel Barcelona. Revealed during Xbox's 2023 Tokyo Game Show broadcast, the team describes Hotel Barcelona as a "2.5D slasher film parodic action" game, and it's out next year.

In Hotel Barcelona, serial killers from all over the United States gather to do serial killer things, presumably. The player must defeat them all and check out of Hotel Barcelona before "all the blood is spilled." It's due out in 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.

Check out the Hotel Barcelona reveal trailer for yourself below:

In an Xbox Wire blog post, Swery says the idea was born during a Suda51-hosted event called "Travis Monday Nitro 2" in Shibuya, Tokyo, in October 2019. The two discussed creating a game together, announcing then and there that it'd be called Hotel Barcelona. Later that year, the two worked out the plan and game details "in one fell swoop over dinner, together in Canada."

Swery describes Hotel Barcelona as a horror-themed, side-scrolling action game, where melee weapons, like an enlarged surgical knife, are your primary weapon, and other items, like a shotgun or Molotov cocktail, serve as your subweapons. "You will go on missions equipped with each of these weapon types," Swery tells Xbox. "Weapons are basically obtained from treasure chests that drop during missions."

He describes Hotel Barcelona as the place where "all the action takes place" and as an integrated leisure complex with facilities like a casino, camping ground, and more. In total, there are seven "smaller worlds" inside the hotel. Each of these seven smaller worlds has a serial killer boss to defeat. Swery notes that the serial killer bosses are not tributes to any single historical character and more so "an embodiment of a subgenre of horror films." So you might see bosses inspired by slasher movies, zombie horrors, summer camp b-movies, babysitter films, and more.

There’s an interesting mechanic called the Slasher Phantom at play in Hotel Barcelona, too.

"Simply put, the player's past character will move as it did in the last run automatically, while still retaining all hitboxes," Swery says. "Something close to this would be the ghost feature in racing games, but with hit detection; it will feel like you are fighting your past self. You can hold up to three Slasher Phantoms, which will help your adventure in each level.

"[Each] of the seven worlds consists of several areas to be cleared, and the boss appears in the last area. When you clear an area, you can choose a power-up, which may restore your health or increase your attack power. However, if you get hit and are sent back to the beginning of the area, you may find it appealing to choose a different route than the previous one, say, to increase your attack power. When you do so and choose a different route, the Slasher Phantoms will reset completely."

Hotel Barcelona is due out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2024.
