Marriage can be a funny concept sometimes can’t it? Because this time last weekend I was ready to un*alive this man😂 and here I am today in complete love and adoration. This is why they say you should never advice married people, but will I ever listen? No!😂🫣

Anyway, back to the matter at hand, I’m truly in awe of how Ola has made life work despite all the challenges and circumstances he has faced.

I know most people have had challenges growing up but my God the odds were really stacked against him.

To come out of all that and still choose to be a good person with minimal complaints is truly impressive and he inspires me to believe in the power of resilience.

Thank you for all that you do Ola, I see you and I love you for it, and yes, I could have just sent you a text, but it’s more fun letting the whole world know innit😁

As the extra mum that I am😂, I wanted to share 10 lessons that I’ve learnt from motherhood leading up to Ivah’s 10th birthday, but life got busy🙄It won’t stop me from sharing though so here goes:

1. Embracing imperfection - I don’t know what gave me this impression but I really thought I’ll be this homemaker mum, baking with kids, throwing flour at each other and laughing, ironing my kids Monday to Sunday outfits and arranging them neatly and make learning fun by teaching them with a soft approach.

If you have been following me for a while, you would know I’m not any of these😂😂and it took me a while to accept it, but I did.

However I not only accepted, but then took time to figure out my version of “ideal mum”, the kind that suits my personality and would still give my kids the best experience.

I may not bake with them but we dance together, we may not throw flour at each other but I’ll let you salt the rice and crack the eggs😂, and nope I haven’t figured out how to organise weekly outfits, everyday is still chaos😂

I’m an over thinker, and I have to constantly remind myself that perfection is not the goal of motherhood, it’s more about making good memories, so go ahead and embrace those imperfections, it’s all part of the journey 🤎

Proud mama moment or Ouch mama moment? Storytime 📚📖

A few days back, my ever curious son asked me a question✨ He asked me for the time and I told him, but he questioned my answer, saying outside looked too bright for the time I gave him. I told him to trust that the answer was correct. Why? He said? because I said so, I replied.😂
He paused, then he proceeded to look at the phone to be sure!😱

I did feel offended for a hot minute, I mean why doesn’t he trust me? but then I began to feel a whirlwind of other emotions. 💭💖

🌱 I was proud, seeing his desire to confirm things for himself and not simply believe because an adult said so.
I mean we all know how we’ve found out that a lot of things in our childhood were lies and the adults didn’t really know much, but made us believe them simply because they were adults.

💪🏼✨ Guiding little minds towards self-reliance and intuition is a gift. By encouraging their innate sense of curiosity and empowering them to trust their instincts, we're setting them on a path of lifelong learning and growth. 📚🌱

💡🧠 Embrace those moments when your children challenge your words, as it signifies their blossoming confidence and thirst for knowledge. Let's teach our kids to be thinkers, explorers, and truth-seekers. 💪

Today marks another year of your life, and I feel incredibly grateful to be able to celebrate it with you.

You are not only my husband, but you are also my best friend. You have been there for me through thick and thin, (literally and figuratively 😂😂)and I cannot thank you enough for your unwavering support and understanding. You make me feel loved, cherished, and appreciated every single day.

One of the things I love most about you is that you let me be me. You accept me for who I am, flaws and all, and you encourage me to pursue my dreams and passions. Your support and encouragement mean everything to me, and I am grateful to have such an amazing partner in life.

It’s a new day, new week and everyone is back to their designated locations 😂 (school, work etc) To be honest half term flew by so quickly and wasn’t that stressful , I also had my birthday in between and was sick all Sunday so I knocked off a few days there😂

🚨Long and open post alert 🚨

Have you been the best parent you can be this year? Because I haven’t…

I know everyone is going to say oh you’re doing your best, you’re perfect for your child etc., which is true, but I also know that there are some goals that I set out for the year in terms of parenting, and I haven’t currently met them.

I will be doing my annual parent audit in two weeks (will share more on this soon) and so far I’m not too impressed with myself in terms of being an intentional parent. However, I also know that I tend to put too much pressure on myself and have an insatiable need for accomplishment.

So, I want to know from more “normal mums”😂. I want to see if I’m overthinking things, so I’ll really appreciate your comments

We had an amazing time watching the new shows, having food and drinks, and got to take home goodie bags as well!

Meet the Oguns

Ogun is a Yoruba name/deity that means god of Iron,it usually has suffixes so that you’re not called a god, so you would have something like Ogunbiyi, meaning the gods birthed this one, Ogundele(gods have come home) etc.

So imagine my mother’s shock when I first told her that my new surname will be Ogun, just Ogun, as in Tolu god of Iron😂😂

What do you think her response was as a Nigerian Christian mum😂😂

Why do kids raised by the same parents in the same household turn out differently?

I’m always in awe of how completely different my kids are, and although I’ve always known personality is what makes them different, I’ve always wondered why they receive lessons, trainings and family lessons so differently.

My friend recently shared a video with me that was so profound. In this video, Dr Gabor explained that to begin with, no two kids are raised in the same household! Hear me out:

He said the first child and the middle child can never have the same experience by virtue of their positions in the family, the parents can never be the exact same people when they had the first, to when they had the second, third etc, and finally, the different personalities of each child evokes different emotions in the parents!

I found this mind blowing tbh, and it has certainly helped me to be more at peace with the difference in my kids, and the way I parent each child.
This applies to us as adults too! So hopefully when you look back at your childhood, you are more forgiving of your parents and the way they handled each sibling.

Happy Monday! I’m celebrating like it’s an actual holiday😅😅

So Ivah told me during the holidays that she would like to switch to trousers for her uniform, and you’ll think with me being so liberal and dare I say “cool”, I’ll say yes in a heartbeat right?
Wrong, for some reason this choice bothered me because I can barely get her to put on anything else that isn’t sweatpants/joggers already, I felt this would be the height of it, so I refused vehemently.

Then a couple of days later I sat myself down and thought to myself, what exactly is my reason for saying no? What harm would it do if she wears trousers to school, how does it affect her character or anything else?
The answer is it doesn’t, I was only saying no due to my personal preference for her.

That day I asked her why she preferred trousers, and ordered it straight away.

She was one very happy girl today when she was getting ready, and that’s all a mother wants at the end of the day.

Time really does fly, because it feels like only yesterday that you were put in my times, and I stared at you for hours straight because I kept thinking, what am I to do with this baby? Who thought it was a good idea giving me a whole human to keep😂😂

I had a lot of draining conversations last week around parenting, between the smacking ban debate and the 10 year old child that was involved in sexual activities in Nigeria, it was just a lot.

Many parents like myself were shaken by this case, but the conversations that have followed have been enlightening,annoying and ignorant all at once.

My take is this, be kind to parents, parenting is the hardest thing you’ll have to do in life if you choose to do it, it’s very easy to give hot takes and go back to your comfort zone but I can assure you, majority of parents don’t just set out to fail, to do things that will make the child become “spoilt”.

No one is absolving parents of their responsibilities but if you think carefully as an adult, you would realise that you probably didn’t do everything your parents wanted or “trained” you to do as a child.

Parenting is enough pressure as it is, and for me, if you’re raising your child in love and kindness, you’re already halfway there, please don’t let the internet pressure you into being a model that most of the “talkers” cannot even attain.

Another lovely Christmas gift idea!
Super Cameron the clean up kid is a book about a conscious and creative eight year old who wants to become an activist one day, he then makes a small change in school that has a big impact!

It’s for 5-7 year old although Ivah is 8 and she was totally engrossed in it. She loved the representative pictures, and how informative it was about caring for the environment.

Welldone for such an inspiring book, Ivah loves it!
