Self(2023) by

Self (2023) is a ceramic piece shaped like a traditional Korean moon jar, symbolizing the artist’s strong Korean identity. One side of the jar presents a flawless, pristine white surface, while the other is stitched together with metal wire, revealing traces of blood.

This duality reflects the contrast between outward appearances and the hidden struggles that everyone carries.

It explores themes of vulnerability, resilience, and the strength found in pain. Through the use of clay and metal wire, Self (2023) illustrates how we often appear whole to the world, while our inner scars tell a different story.

Excited to share that I’ve been selected for the mentorship program by the Cultural Foundation - Abu Dhabi

For the next 6 months, I will be guided by Shaikha Al Mazrou, one of the most respected Emirati artists known for her dynamic and promising sculptural experimentations. Shaikha’s work delves into the interplay between form and content, showcasing a profound understanding of materials and their physical properties. Her innovative approach to geometric abstraction and color theory continues to inspire.

It’s been an incredible journey transitioning to a full-time ceramist over the past year, and I can’t wait to embrace this new chapter! Happy Sunday everyone!
