Balance. That was my word for 2022.
After burning out of my corporate job, my intention in taking a year off was to find a way to balance productivity and rest. I’ve always skewed hard towards the productivity side of that spectrum and it was no longer doing my mental or physical health any favors.
These are some of the major changes I made in the last year:
🚫 Using “no” as a full sentence. No explanation needed.
🧘🏼♀️ Resting without guilt
⚙️ Removing the need to be productive. I did what felt good and said no to the rest. Even though I did take some clients in 2022, it was with the understanding that work would be batched a month in advance and nothing would be considered urgent. This allowed me to work when I felt productive and creative while still prioritizing rest and balance. It also meant I never had to rush, which my nervous system desperately needed a break from.
Balance will always be a practice for me, and I’m grateful for the time and space to lean into it.
