One of our favourite activities for working on letter recognition - play doh!

Remember that at this age, FUN should be at the centre of learning!

Things we did:
* Tate copied a letter that I first modelled
* Tate guessed what letter I made
* Tate chose let letter for us to make
* Tate made the letter I chose
* we made his name, Mom and Reese

Let your kiddos guide what you do! We did this for about 15 minutes before he was off playing something different. Having that low stress, fun environment is so beneficial!

HAPPY SUNDAY! I encourage you to set aside your phone today and PLAY!

One of the easiest (but fun!) activities to practice letters - PLAY DOH!

I love finding little activities like this where I can gently encourage learning but the main focus is on PLAY! Itā€™s a win-win when we can learn without our kids feeling the pressure. Remember - let your kids guide you!

Happy Sunday, mamas!

01/01/2021

In past years I would set goals for a ā€˜new meā€™.

New weight.
New routine.
New ambitions.
New ā€˜meā€™.
New, new, new.

It was all about erasing parts of me that I didnā€™t find valuable or worthy.

This year has taught me a lot. One of the biggest things is that as humans we are designed to change. We evolve with the ā€˜ebb and flowā€™ of life. We overcome and adjust as needed. Itā€™s not always easy, but we can. Some things are meant to stay forever, and some are meant to learn and grow through.

As much as there are always things to improve on, thereā€™s also a whole lotta great things worth keeping. Did you read that right?

THEREā€™S A LOTTA THINGS ABOUT YOU WORTH KEEPING.

This year Iā€™m focusing on adding in, rather than erasing.

Add in more gratitude.
Add in more healthy foods.
Add in new relationships.
Add in more date nights.
Add in more kids.
Add in more naps.
Hell, add in whatever you want.

But just because itā€™s December 31, 2020, donā€™t try to erase her. You donā€™t need a NEW YOU. You have everything already. You just need to keep learning, adapting and growing.

My top 3 add ins:

āœØMORE STILLNESS.
āœØMORE GREENS.
āœØMORE EXECUTING.

My yearly word:
āœØINTENTIONAL

What are yours? ā¬‡ļø

HAPPY NEW YEAR, from my family to yours! šŸ–¤

Itā€™s World Prematurity Day!ā€Ø
Meet our sweet preemies.
Tate - 30 weeks - 3lbs 9oz
Reese - 31+1 weeks - 4lbs 2oz
ā€ØToday is a day to honour all of the babes who had to fight so hard. The babes who were born too early, who wore countless tubes and wires, and spent their first days/weeks/months in a hospital instead of their home. The babes who didnā€™t get the typical newborn experience and who have story of triumph to share.ā€Øā€ØItā€™s also a day to recognize what preemie parents have gone through, and let them know that theyā€™re seen and loved. Watching your child struggle on the outside, knowing they should still be in the inside of your belly is indescribable. One thing I know we can all agree on is that parenting a preemie changes you. Seeing your child struggle to breathe, having the conversations of ā€œwhat ifā€, and thinking about of the possible outcomes is something no parent should have to go through. ā€Øā€Ø4 years ago today I walked into the NICU for the 34rd day in a row to find volunteers passing out muffins, coffee and gift bags to the parents still waiting to take their preemie home. It was the first time I had heard of and I was no suddenly apart of it.ā€Øā€ØI didnā€™t ask to be a preemie mama.ā€ØI wasnā€™t prepared for it.ā€ØAnd iā€™d be lying If I said there were werenā€™t days I didnā€™t want the title.ā€Øā€ØBut one thing I know is that these two preemies were made especially for me. My journey to mamahood wasnā€™t anything like I had thought it would be, but it has been worth every heartache, tear and struggle.

Hereā€™s a friendly reminder that you donā€™t owe it to anyone to follow them on social media. Nobody. Not a friend, relative or coworker.

You do, however, owe it to yourself to protect your mental health.

Iā€™m not sure about you, but Iā€™ve been finding social media hard to be on lately.

So, hereā€™s a reminder to us both, mama.

If someone has a different opinion than you, and theyā€™re blasting it on social media,

if you feel frustrated when you see posts,

if you find your heart racing or face flushing,

You donā€™t have to follow them.

Thatā€™s OUR choice. We choose who we let in. Us.

Itā€™s a weird time right now. Thereā€™s negativity and divide and fear and uncertainty.

But thereā€™s also a lot of good. You just have to be willing to w**d through the bad.

Tag a mama who could use this gentle reminder šŸ–¤

ā€œYou are smart,
You are kind,
You are brave, ā€ØYou are helpful, ā€ØYou are giving,
You are loved.ā€ā€Øā€ØI zipped Reese up in her sleep sack, laid her blanket on my shoulder and she instantly dropped her head and snuggled in tightly. I swayed back and fourth in the dark, quiet room gently repeating her affirmations to her, feeling every word I said so deeply. After a few minutes, she lifted her little head, grabbed each side of my face with her warm chubby hands and rubbed her nose back and fourth against mine. She laid her head back down, and melted even deeper into my arms.ā€Øā€ØI needed this sweet, gentle reminder tonight. Something to let me know that we are doing OK. Something to make me feel appreciated and seen. Something to let me know sheā€™s happy and feels my love.ā€Øā€ØIā€™ve been working a lot the past month and a half, and we have all been feeling the change since I am normally home with both kids.ā€Øā€ØIn times when you feel like you give, and give, and give with nothing in return, just remember that your babes see you.ā€ØThey hear you.ā€ØThey need you.ā€ØThey love you. ā€Øā€ØThese little gentle reminders are so special, arenā€™t they? And they always seem to come at the perfect time.ā€Øā€ØDo you do affirmations with your kids? I rehearse these every single night to both T and R. Whether Tate engages, or not, (he does most nights, but I always give him the choice!) itā€™s so important to me that I always fill them up with traits I know are rooted deep in their souls.

Our words matter, mamas šŸ–¤

Hi! šŸ‘‹šŸ¼ Iā€™m Taryn. Voice behind the MMP and creator of this truly incredible community.

I get asked a lot why I started podcasting, and with new faces here (and some older ones who probably just havenā€™t heard this story!), I thought it would be a fun time to share! AND shamelessly share one of my pics from my solo photo shoot with šŸ¤£

When I was sitting in the NICU in 2016 as a brand new young mama, I felt this loneliness that I genuinely couldnā€™t explain. Although I had a really incredible support system of family and friends, I still felt like I was navigating a lot of my (rather unconventional) motherhood alone. Once I connected with other moms in the NICU, who still hold a really special place in my heart, they made me feel validated, supported and heard. They just got it.

It was these strangers, the other NICU moms, who I felt like really helped me to rise through hard motherhood time.

When I left the NICU after having Reese in 2019, things were really clear to me. It takes a village to raise kids. But, it also takes a village to help mamas rise through messy, hard times in motherhood.

This community + podcast has brought so much to my life. Itā€™s actually really hard for me to put into words how much fulfillment and pride I feel. Creating a safe space for mamas to come and share their journeys, and find support and gain some clarity/healing is something I truly wished I had, and I hope the moms that come on gain as much as I think they do!

Bringing on guests who share their experience and knowledge that helps us parents gain tools, resources and confidence has been a complete JOY for me. I love positive parenting and have learned so much from them, and hope you mamas have, too!

Have you gained anything from the podcast? What about just being apart of this community?! If so - I would truly love to hear below! šŸ–¤

I just want you to know how much I appreciate you being here.
For every like, comment and save on the posts.
For every story reply, or answered poll.
For every rate or review left on the podcast.
It all means more to me than you probably realize! I know social media can easily be overlooked, but I do mean it šŸ–¤

Can I just say that Season 2 of the podcast has been SO MUCH MORE than I ever could have expected?! šŸ–¤šŸ˜ I mean that!

Itā€™s my birthday this week, and in order to say THANK YOU for being here and supporting this amazing community and all of the Spotlight Mamas + guests that have been on the pod, I thought a šŸ”†GIVEAWAYšŸ”† would be fun! Iā€™ve partnered up with two of my all time favourite shops for it and Iā€™m SO excited!

Did you know that the easiest way to support small shops/podcasts etc. Is to simply engage with us here on Insta?

I know it seems so small, but itā€™s SO BIG! SAVING and SHARING posts helps more moms see our incredible community + podcast episodes, which I whole-heartedly believe is something every Mama needs. I hope you feel that, too!

THANKS for being here, mama.
Stay tuned for GIVEAWAY coming later today! šŸ–¤

It was a big day for us today!

Tateā€™s first day of Playschool.
Reeseā€™s first day of daycare.

HOW did we get here so quickly? I am planning on subbing again and hoping to get at least a few days a week. This week we are living slow and taking time to get adjusted to our new routine. Reese will be going to daycare Thursday afternoon while Tate is at playschool too, so she can adjust before going full days.

Whew! What a change. Iā€™m going to be soaking in every second of staying at home with them when I get to!

So, so proud of these two and I truly couldnā€™t love them any more! šŸ–¤

Just a casual FIRST DAY BACK TO REALITY photo šŸ˜³

Derek is heading back teaching today for the first time since MARCH! It seems like forever ago that we started social distancing, and we found a new ā€˜normalā€™ having him home everyday.

As nice as itā€™s been, our family is also VERY ready for some routine and ā€˜old normalcyā€™ again!

Starting the day with a coffee, puzzles, and an extra lotta grace! šŸ–¤

I hope youā€™re adjusting well to your new routine if you have kiddos or spouses heading back to school this week! šŸ–¤

NEW PODCAST EPISODE! šŸ–¤

With the rise of mamas speaking out about their mama stories, Iā€™m sure that IVF is something we have all heard of. But, as I started navigating motherhood myself, I was overwhelmed to realize just how many people utilize IVF in order to have their own babies.

Like a lot of the messy, hard parts of motherhood - itā€™s easy to ignore all of the really hard, more intimate parts of situations. We KNOW that IVF is hard, but a lot of us donā€™t know all of the nitty gritty details.

In todayā€™s episode, shares it all! The financial burden it can leave, the daily injections + surgeries, the toll it can take on your marriage, and so much more.

Head to the link in my bio to listen! Itā€™s a GOOD ONE! ā¤ļø

24/07/2020

the days are long, but the years are short.

Iā€™m sure youā€™ve been told this a million times, too.

If you know me, you know Iā€™m really intentional about soaking up these fleeting moments with my littles. But that doesnā€™t mean theyā€™re all easy.

This boy, you guys. Heā€™s going through it right now. Iā€™m not sure what ā€˜itā€™ is, but itā€™s something, ha!

One second heā€™s sweet as can be, and the next, heā€™s testing his boundaries and using his voice.

He wants more freedom than he can handle, and heā€™s starting to challenge us more than ever.

I know. I know itā€™s developmentally appropriate, and I know itā€™s him just becoming the person who he was created to be. And Iā€™m super grateful for going through these lessons with him.

But these days. Some fly by, and others seem never ending.

Just leaving this thought here to let you know that you arenā€™t alone. Maybe your daily challenges look a little different than mine, but theyā€™re here for me, too. Theyā€™re loud, chaotic, and often leave me questioning my ability.

Motherhood is better together. Are you here with me? šŸ–¤

NEW POD EPISODE! šŸ–¤

Have you heard of BIRTH TRAUMA? Perhaps youā€™ve even experienced it?

Unfortunately itā€™s much too common, leaving moms feeling both confused and traumatized.

Taylor hopped on the mic with me and bravely shared her story where she experienced forceful physical touch (without consent!) and her voice and questions were simply ignored, ultimately leaving her son Bowen in the NICU to be monitored for brain damage and a cracked skull.

Thanks so much for trusting our with your story šŸ–¤

One of my goals this summer: lessen my screen time.

Do you mamas get the weekly reports your phone sends, letting you know the average amount of time spent on your phone?

A few weeks ago mine was 6 HOURS and I almost fell over šŸ˜¬

Iā€™m focusing a ton on leaving my phone on my nightstand and really BEING with my kids.

DOING the puzzle.
COLOURING with Tate.
SWINGING at the park.
CRAWLING around with Reese.
GETTING even more involved.

Has anyone else been shocked at their screen time reports? Whatā€™s been your consistent number? ā¤µļø

Also, no filter needed today at the in Maple Creek! Such a fun place to take the kiddos... even while social distancing šŸ™ƒ
