The town of Chinhoyi has been battling with water shortages for as long as I have been living in the town .We can go for days or weeks without water on our taps and when it does come sometimes it's only for a few minutes early in the morning or late at night while you're sleeping that is if you are lucky because some households haven't seen running water for months.This results in residents going to fetch water in the sewage infested streams and water holes around their areas of residence. Some residents have resorted to drilling boreholes and wells while those with shallow pockets end up getting unprotected wells which are dangerous as we have kids roaming around the neighborhoods unwatched.At the end of the day we have kids dying and getting hurt because they have fallen into these wells.We are experiencing countless breakouts of Cholera,typhoid just to name a few because of this water crisis and we know very well that our health care system is almost nonexistent.

I am appealing to the responsible authorities (Chinhoyi municipality)to attend to this issue with urgency and restore our dignity because water is a basic human right.All we have gotten so far as residents are excuses if its not a broken pump its (power cuts)load shedding making it impossible to pump the water to us.

The Municipality must come up with a permanent solution to this problem either to drill boreholes that will serve us when we get loadshedding,introduce solar powered pumps that are not affected by the shortage of electricity or add more water tanks as the town is growing rapidly.
