👉👉👉 For Moodlab's first ever visual illusion of the month, we’re starting with the famous checkerboard shadow illusion.
Square A and square B look totally different don’t they? Can you believe that they are actually….. identical? 🤯
The human visual system can be easily fooled. As colourists, we understand that it's all in the context.

Attending the 100th NABshow was a blast! From seeing the latest industry trends to investigating options for Moodlab to making new friends.
One of the hottest topics at the convention was cloud collaboration, which seemed to be on display at almost every booth. We had a long chat with someone who specialised in on-premises storage, and by the end of our conversation, we had them convinced that the cloud was the way to go. At least for us!
But it wasn’t all work and no play. We couldn’t travel to all the way to Vegas and not hit up the parties. The highlight for us was The Colorist Mixer, where we connected with other colourists from around the world. You’ve never seen SO many colourists in one place! It was awesome.
By the end of the week, our brains were overflowing with new ideas, and our livers were begging for mercy. We left the convention feeling energised and inspired, and ready to take on the world with Moodlab and our cloud-based colour services.

What’s that a window in a grading suite…? 😱 Fun fact: it’s not a good idea to grade in a pitch-black room for TV. But we do want to avoid any reflections and a shift in colour temperate. So we also have a fancy black-out blind giving us total control over the lighting.

We couldn't have asked for a better debut event than our panel on “Setting the Look”.
We had the pleasure of welcoming some of the industry's most talented and respected professionals, including legends Katie Milwright ACS, Earle Dresner ACS, Fergus Hally CSI, CJ Dobson CSI and Mars Williamson, who shared their valuable insights and expertise.
The event was a celebration of collective knowledge, highlighting the importance of collaboration in achieving outstanding results. Attendees also got a chance to see some behind-the-scenes footage and hear about the creative process involved in achieving a particular look. The event was a valuable learning experience for everyone involved and provided insights into the collaboration between colorists and cinematographers, as well as the role that technology plays in the process.
We also had a blast mingling with other industry pros over some delicious drinks, courtesy of our awesome sponsors: Vino Intrepido, Temple Brewing Company, The Hidden Sea, Anther Spirits, StrangeLove and Lyre's Spirit Co.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us. It was an unforgettable experience, and we look forward to hosting more events in the future to continue to celebrate collaboration, creativity and collective knowledge in the industry.

After many months of hard work, a little blood, much sweat, a tear or two, it’s finally time… Introducing MOODLAB.
What is Moodlab? You can think of us in two parts:
Part 1:
Two kick-ass screening and finishing rooms designed specifically to meet the needs of Melbourne’s best colourists, flame artists and editors.
Our spaces feature meticulously calibrated workstations and client reference monitors. They are beautifully designed, with bespoke neutrally coloured materials and neutral lighting. It’s not only the perfect environment for critical evaluation, but a contemporary space for important presentations.
Part 2:
In addition to offering world class finishing rooms, Moodlab is developing a new suite of services designed to liberate artists and assist in making your work even better. This includes pre-production look design and development including custom LUTs for use on set as well as a new exciting cloud based grade-as-you-go* service, allowing work to commence on dailies moments after a shot is captured on set…anywhere…in the world. Woah.
Say goodbye to waiting for an approved offline to set your look, say goodbye to scruffy unbalanced timelines and goodbye to pesky offline eyes setting in to ruin your dreams of a bold look.
