Cast Breakdown:

Bracer (Raider/Slaver Leader):
The smart scrapper of the group. He looks a bit small to be intimidating at first but his eyes radiate intellect and cunning. He dresses to blend in but hides many weapons in the folds of his clothes and has a plan to get out of any dicey situation - with words, or otherwise. His childhood was spent partly in a blacksmithy until he became a servant at the foot of a band of highwaymen at 15, which gives some insight into his personality. He believes decisiveness and uncertainty is better than delayed certainty.

Cold (Raider/Slaver):
Cold is the perfect lieutenant. He is solidly built, above average height, and generally intimidating, with facial scars demonstrating his commitment to the fight. He doesn’t care for strategy or lofty ambitions. He just wants to prove himself as the most capable, reliable, and tough son of a bitch that any slaver captain would have the pleasure to have at his right hand. He is not flashy or fidgety, but he has his vices; there is always a ratty cigar between his lips, and he proudly wears an oversized ring that identifies him as having killed multiple lieutenants of rival gangs in service to the organization he holds membership in.

Yak (Raider/Slaver):
Yak is always too determined to be cool. He is tall, skinny, and angular. He wears his hair and clothing to exaggerate his height, wears makeup to make himself look dark, threatening, and mysterious (or so he thinks). He wears exotic clothing he has managed to accumulate in multiple layers. He is unstable, obsessed with his appearance and the next high which working with the slaver band will afford him, and as such, he is not very concerned for his personal safety and can be very unpredictable.

Raze (Raider/Slaver):
Raze is the less-brilliant of the bunch, hired as muscle, and not much else. He looks chiseled from granite. He’s tall, powerful, and imposing. However, he is not particularly brave or clever. He is instead a bit over-worried and disinclined to take action unless following direct orders or avoiding danger, as he is never certain whether he is making the right call and hates to disappoint his lieutenants. He looks frightening, and will follow orders, which is usually enough for slavers to employ him, but his voice and mannerisms betray uncertainty and trepidation.

Heck (Traveler/Civilian):
Heck is past middle age but still in good shape and not bad looking. He is self-assured and decisive. However, he and Lucy were forced from their homestead when he would not join up as a mercenary with a group of younger, hotheaded men from their area. Heck, convinced the men were after Lucy, refused to join up, believing they would certainly set him up to die and take Lucy for themselves. As a result Heck and Lucy fled with what they could into the wastes. They are now in search of a new homestead.

Lucy (Traveler/Civilian)
Lucy is a practical woman who, due to the harsh necessities of a lawless world, has shifted from partner to partner over the years in an attempt to gain protection and provision. She is in constant conflict between staying with her current partner, for whom she has no great love, and attempting to find a younger and more resourceful man. She is not helpless but prefers to make her partner take the risks she has paid for by enduring his presence. As a result of fleeing from the mercenary conscription, Lucy is now conflicted over whether Heck is the weaker man, or the man who protected her from gang violence and many unspeakable abuses.

For Heck and Lucy submissions: Must be willing to do some basic stunts (fall to knees, fall from standing, being roughly maneuvered by other actors in scene). Must be willing to work on set with limited pyrotechnic and special effects. No special training required.

For all other submissions: must be willing and able to do some basic stunts and vigorous physical activity which might include running, jumping, standing height falls, reacting to bullet hits, sliding, diving, etc., as well as working on set around pyrotechnic and special effects. Prior training and/or experience desirable but not necessary. Seeking one actor with motorcycle riding experience.

We could all use a little more gratefulness. It'll make the world better.

What is gratefulness? What part does it play in our lives, and how much impact does it have? The answer is it affects everything in our lives, and in large part, determines how happy we are. Here’s why.

The latest story... my inspiration for riding a bicycle to work, and how our limitations are often self-imposed.
https://artofsurvivalhq.com/blog/self-imposed-limitations

After reading Alistair Humphrey’s “Grand Adventures” I was inspired to prepare for a bicycle trip like I’ve never done. From that and the book, I gained some insight about how our limitations are self-imposed.

Here is the latest video! I'm doing what are called 'micro-adventures', getting out, being spontaneous and doing something active to explore the world around me. This time, instead of running, I decided to carry a heavy bag (rucking) down Tempe Town Lake and up "A" Mountain. It was a good time!

Thoughts on the epidemic of videogame addiction in men. Videogames are killing our 'libido for life'.

https://artofsurvivalhq.com/blog/live-heroically-in-real-life

We live in an age where videogames give men an out: instead of figuring out how to lead heroic lives themselves, they live vicariously through heroic fictional characters. Videogame addiction pulls men out of activities to a productive and fulfilling life, replacing them with fake achievements and a

Our newest article. Have you ever wondered why there are (and have been throughout history) so many creeds, tenets, written codes, and pledges? They're everywhere, from fraternities, to military units, boy scouts, and much more.

What makes them so prevalent? The power in a creed is something worth considering. I examine their purpose and power in this article as well as the terrible consequences of living without one, especially for men.

artofsurvivalhq.com/blog/the-power-of-creeds-and-pledges

Creeds and pledges have a significant role in our lives. Many people never think of their role in our lives today. I examine the power of creeds and pledges throughout history, which have bound people together to strive toward a common purpose and ideal which, while never reachable, ennobles the per

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Let's remember to cherish the innumerable blessings we have. We have so many of them, that we are blind to their abundance.

My book review of “The Gulag Archipelago” by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

We think too much, and do too little. There are too many options, too much data, and analysis paralysis is killing our ability to do the things that matter. Why is this? What is this phenomenon, and how do we escape it?

This is a call to re-awaken the pioneer spirit in yourself.

https://artofsurvivalhq.com/blog/rekindle-the-pioneer-spirit

The creature-comforts of modern life suffuse our lives so thoroughly, we are blind to what we have lost; a virility and passion, a desire and ability to be self-sufficient, to shoulder responsibility, and be pillars of strength. We have lost the pioneer spirit. We must regain it.
