In September 2016, a Chinese gambler named Yang Qingpei murdered his mom and dad after they refused to lend him money for his debts, then killed 17 innocent neighbours with a pickaxe to eliminate possible witnesses.

Among the 19 victims, 4 were minors, one of which was a toddler. The oldest victim of the senseless killing spree was a 72-year-old. A total of 6 families were affected by the horrific crime. The massacre took place in the village of Yema in a mountainous province of China known as Yunnan.

Suspect Yang Qingpei confessed to the mass murder when he was arrested by Yunnan police. In July 2017, he was sentenced to death, and rightfully so.
