OUR TRADITION SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN DEVIOUSLY TAMPERED WITH.
Dear fans, Permission to make use of the caption of your traditional marriage as it speaks exactly what we are talking about this morning.
Traditionally, we were thought, we, Ndi Igbo were thought that a woman becomes traditionally married when a man pays her bride price and provide the required items by the Kindred or better still the Clan of the woman.
During the ceremony of the Traditional marriage, we were thought of which we have seen on many occasions that the Father or the person representing the Father if late, will give a Cup of Palm wine to his Daughter and instruct her to go in search of the man whom she calls her husband to be, it will be clearly stated to the woman that any man she willingly gives the drink and the man willingly receives the drink, drink it and feed her before the crowd automatically becomes her husband. Then both of them after drinking from the Cup of the Elders will later return the Cup to the table with a little Token inside it as an appreciation for the permission to drink with elders Cup.
On returning the Cup, both will kneel down before the father of the woman to receive their Martial Blessings from the parents of the woman before they go on with dancing and Celebration.
BUT NOW, IT SEEMS THAT THINGS ARE GRADUALLY FALLING APART.
Though, through stories and other people's encounter, we have learnt that many people have been p@isoined on the day of their traditional marriage through the Cup, we heard stories of people who go on after Married to face a lot of challenges and hardships after their Traditional marriage after drinking from the Cup.What we see now is,
A father will give a drink to her daughter to do the needful, then the daughter will receive and proceeds. On reaching to the location of her man, the man will receive it, pour it away under or beside his Chair, then a friend or brother near to him will open a Juice or Malt or any other type of drink......
