At the beginning of this month, the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture of Iceland Svandís Svavardóttir announced that they will no longer be partaking in whaling.

Iceland renewed their last three-year hunting quota in 2019. Since then, only one minke was killed in 2021; a huge decline from their last full season in 2018.

The loss of demand for whaling is due to the fact that Iceland’s biggest customer for whaling resumed the practice in 2019 after 30 years of not doing it…
