I’m Elby and I’ve just written and illustrated my first children’s book, “Fidgety Finn and His Good Friend Shadow.” I had so much fun with this first book that I plan to do another, or two, or three. My wife and I both grew up in Massachusetts. After we married, we moved to New Hampshire where I worked as an engineer. Together we raised two boys, who are now responsible grown men who are pursuing
their own careers. After 38 years of 9 to 5, I decided to leave the engineering profession so that I could pursue other interests and more importantly, to spend time with my grandson. Quality time spent with my grandson provided the inspiration to write “Fidgety Finn and His Good Friend Shadow.” One day while taking a walk in the bright summer sun, we saw our shadows on the road. At the time I thought to myself, someday I should write a book about that. My grandson’s antics also provided ideas for many of the book’s pages. My two boys always enjoyed the times when I read to them, and now reading is a favorite pastime for my grandson as well. Even though our grandson is now overseas, my wife and I still manage to read to him occasionally by video-chat.
