Aba to Enjoy 24 Hours Electricity

On Monday, President Bola Tinubu will be in Aba, Abia State to commission the 140MW Geometric Power Plant which was designed to distribute power to residents of Aba mega-city, comprising 9 local government areas.

The power plant was built by a private company to supply reliable power to industries, commercial businesses, residences, and other power off-takers in the Aba ring-fenced area through construction, operation, and delivery of electricity from the 140 MW gas-fired power plant to all off-takers in phase 1 of the project.

This will separate Aba from the non-reliable national grid. The company said it has laid a pipeline to transport gas from Awaza to their station in Osisioma and signed a contract with a competent International company to maintain the plant with the assurance that Aba will enjoy 24/7 electricity.

The company also gave the reason for locating the power plant in Aba saying it was based on a commercial study and technical audit of the Aba Island conducted by Geometric Power in collaboration with the Government utility, the default Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in March 2006 which covered information on daily peak load for the Aba Island, suppressed demand, list of shut down industries and forecast power consumption requirements of the various of customers categories in Aba.

The Borno State government said, on Wednesday, that the 160,000 repentant Boko Haram insurgents can’t return to killings because they swore to an oath with the Quran.

The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, whose ministry oversees the affairs of the ex-combatants and rescued captives, added that of the 160,000 repentant insurgents, 70,000 had been resettled and reintegrated into their communities.

Gambo stressed that having sworn by the Quran the ex-terrorists would never return to the bush to rejoin Boko Haram.

She spoke at the public presentation of survivors, victims and deradicalized women of Boko Haram by the UKAID-assisted Maiduguri-based non-governmental organisation, Allamin Foundation.

Unconfirmed reports states CEO of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe has died in a Helicopter Crash this evening.

The chopper transporting Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Holdings was headed for Las Vegas but crashed between Nevada and California.

5 people were stated to be on Board and all 5 passengers have been confirmed dead.

It is still unconfirmed as to the identity of all passengers but reports states that the business mogul was on board the crashed chopper.

Dr Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, is dead.

The politician was said to have passed away on Wednesday evening while watching the AFCON semifinal match between Nigeria and South Africa.

A source close to the politician said, “Cairo Ojougboh, a medical doctor, died during the Nigeria vs.South Africa match.

“The incident happened when the penalty was awarded against Nigeria. Dr Ojougboh was said to have shouted and slumped due to massive heart attack when SA scored.”

As of the time of filing this report, his family has yet to issue a statement on his death.

However, friends and political associates are already mourning him on social media.

Nigeria v Equatorial Guinea: Facts & Figures

Nigeria will play Equatorial Guinea in their opening Group A match at the Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan on Sunday.

Ahead of the match, We take a look at some interesting facts and figures of the two sides below:

● This will be the first encounter between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations. They faced each other in the qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup – Nigeria won both matches (1-0; 2-0).

● Nigeria are making their 20th appearance at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations. They have won the tournament on three occasions (1980, 1994, 2013) and reached the semi-finals in 14 of their last 17 AFCON participations.

● Nigeria were beaten finalists the last time the CAF Africa Cup of Nations was held in Côte d’Ivoire, they lost 3-1 against Cameroon in 1984.

● Nigeria have won 12 of their last 15 matches at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (L3). Their last draw dates back to the 2013 group stages, against Zambia (1-1).

● Nigeria scored 22 goals in six games during qualifying for the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations, the highest tally among the 24 teams at this year’s tournament. 10 of those goals came from Victor Osimhen, that’s twice as many as any other player (4 players on 5 goals).

● This is Equatorial Guinea’s fourth CAF Africa Cup of Nations appearance, but it’s only the second time they have qualified as non-hosts. They have so far always reached the knockout stages: quarter-finalists in 2012 and 2021, 4th place in 2015.

● Equatorial Guinea have never scored more than two goals in their previous 15 matches at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

Nollywood actress, Peju Johnson, has stated that the reason a lot of ladies live a good life is because of the financial support they get from sugar daddies.

In a chat with Vanguard, Johnson explained that certain girls tend to belittle their boyfriends because older lovers popularly known as ‘sugar daddies lavish cash and luxury items on them.

“Let me say, sugar daddies have helped a lot of ladies to live a better life, changing their lives for better and at the same time, spoiling many of them.”

“They change the orientation of many girls about life; helping them to fund their lifestyles and this, has made it difficult for many of them to want to settle for normal guys/ men.”

“They have made many young girls look down on their boyfriends because he’s unable to do what the sugar daddy does,” she said.

Citing the case of Chidinma Ojukwu who is currently in police custody over the murder of her ‘sugar daddy’ (Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga), the brand influencer said today’s ladies will do anything to make quick money.
