Hello Insightful
I thought I would try something new, something to give the fans in the in-between times that we are offline. As I write this I am in the middle of a move across the country. From southern California to southern Georgia, you cannot drive much further than that. I mean you can but, it wouldn’t be that much further. I drove roughly two thousand miles and it took me 7 days of driving. On the way I stopped at the Grand Canyon and let me tell you, it was awe-inspiring. The most awe you can get from a giant crack in the earth. The drive through Arizona was equally as beautiful, I have made the drive quite a few times already, so I was not as struck as I was seeing the Grand Canyon. I usually make it through Arizona at night, so the beauty of the place is often dampened. I drove through Flag Staff, which is on a mountain, in the daytime and could see the trees and valleys in vivid detail. Even in the winter, the trees were green, which was perfectly accented with the white snow.
After Arizona, I drove to Texas. Texas is pretty enough in its own right but a must-stop location is in Amarillo. The place is called “The Big Texan” and it is hyped for miles before you get to the place. The Big Texan is a restaurant that has a 72 oz steak challenge. That is not the only reason to stop at this place but what initially gets you in the door. I had no interest in trying the steak challenge. I have been to this restaurant before in the past, I make it a point to stop there every time I drive across the country. The food is always good. The wait staff is very professional and friendly. The theme of the restaurant is cowboys, as you may have guessed. The dining room is large with an upstairs balcony that looks down on the main floor. Everywhere in the place is decorated with cowboy memorabilia. The restaurant even has its own gift shop, think Cracker Barrell style.
I ordered the steak, but it was not the 72 oz. It was cooked exactly the way I ordered it, and it tasted amazing and melted in my mouth with a buttery smooth finish, but I am getting ahead of myself. First, I ordered two appetizers, potato skins, and fried jalapenos. The potato skins were more like half of a loaded baked potato and there were 4 of them, I only ate one. The potato skins were OK at best. The fried Jalapeno on the other hand been amazing, I like spicy. The Jalapenos were cut into a disk, battered with white cornmeal, and deep-fried. My mouth is watering at the thought of them right now. They tasted and had the same mouth feel as fried okra if fried okra was spicy. The best part, however, was the stake. It was a New York strip, they called it a “16oz Big Texan Strip.” Like I said above, it tasted amazing, I highly recommend that you stop at the Big Texan if you ever find yourself in or near Amarillo Texas.
Enough of me gushing over this restaurant. After eating I had planned on driving down to see the Alamo in San Antonio. Fate had a different plan; I received a phone call informing me that my house in Georgia would be ready a week ahead of schedule and if I did not take this house at that time, they were going to offer it to someone else. My housing is provided to me by the people I work for, the US government. If I did not take this house there was a good possibility that I would be placed on a waiting list for up to 3 months but as little as 30 days. As I was thinking of what to do I received another phone call, it was my movers. The moving company informed me that they could get my home goods to me the day after I moved in. If I did not take that the home goods would be placed into storage for up to 90 days. The minimum time that the home goods could be stored, you guessed it, 30 days. Being in a house with my stuff won vs being in a hotel for an unknown amount of time.
At the time I am writing this I have my house. I have had my house for a week now. I have not received my home goods. The delivery guy had a family emergency and was postponed for a week. I will not go into what his emergency was however I understand why the delay has happened. I am not upset with the circumstances; I just want my stuff. My thoughts and prayers are with the delivery guy and his family. The good news is that I have a new delivery guy and my home goods will arrive shortly.
