# # # The Tinubu Administration: A Critical Examination

In the aftermath of the economic policies and governance strategies initiated under former President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria found itself yearning for transformative leadership and relief from the excruciating economic realities faced by its citizens. The advent of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the presidency in May 2023 was met with a blend of hope and skepticism among Nigerians, as the nation waded through an intricate socio-economic landscape. However, as the months have unfolded, many citizens have found themselves confronted with a stark and troubling reality.

*Economic Strain and the Cost of Living Crisis*

At the core of President Tinubu's administration is the urgent issue of the escalating cost of living, which has reached alarming proportions. The price of petrol, a critical commodity that drives the economy and a daily necessity for millions, has skyrocketed from ₦258 per litre to ₦1,025—a staggering increase of over 400%. This surge has not just inflated transportation costs but has also had a cascading effect on the prices of essential goods and services, exacerbating the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

The rising costs have led to decreased purchasing power, pushing many families further into poverty. Basic necessities that were once affordable have become luxuries for many, leading to a pervasive sentiment of despair among the populace. Reports of people unable to afford food, healthcare, and other essential services have become alarmingly common, contributing to an environment of fear and anxiety.

*Government Response and Public Perception*

Compounding the frustration are perceptions of apathy from the Tinubu administration towards the plights of ordinary citizens. Many Nigerians feel that their voices are unheard and their struggles overlooked. The economic policies implemented, purportedly aimed at stabilizing the economy, have instead intensified the burdens on the working class and the marginalized. The government's failure to provide immediate relief measures, such as subsidies or financial support mechanisms for low-income families, has further alienated the citizenry.

The lack of transparency in policy implementations and the seeming disconnect between the government's priorities and the realities faced by the people have fueled widespread criticism. It has sparked protests and public outcry as citizens demand accountability and action. This sentiment is amplified by the feeling that, despite the rising costs and hardships, the government remains unresponsive or overly optimistic in its assessments of the situation.

*Social and Political Implications*

The economic hardships under Tinubu's administration have not only stirred public dissent but have also precipitated a broader dialogue about governance and accountability in Nigeria. As discontent grows, there is a palpable fear of social unrest. Historical precedent indicates that economic downturns often lead to heightened tensions and civil protests. The government's ability to manage discontent and provide effective solutions will be crucial in maintaining social stability.

Moreover, the political ramifications of the current administration’s challenges could reshape the political landscape. As dissatisfaction mounts, there is potential for a resurgence of opposition forces that could galvanize support for change. This dynamic establishes an urgent need for the Tinubu government to reconnect with the Nigerian populace, to listen to their grievances, and to develop strategies that reflect the urgent needs of the citizens rather than distant economic targets.

In summary, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu government is navigating through tumultuous waters marked by significant economic challenges that have left many Nigerians in despair. The unprecedented rise in the cost of living, particularly the dramatic spike in petrol prices, underscores a broader issue of economic mismanagement and disconnect between the government and its citizens. As the administration grapples with this reality, the urgency for effective leadership, transparency, and responsiveness to the needs of the people has never been more imperative. The resilience of the Nigerian people is commendable, but the ongoing struggles highlight the critical need for meaningful governance that prioritizes the welfare and well-being of all citizens.

Now the National Assembly feels its time to let "Buhari Go".
The question really is:
1. What have they been doing all these while?
2. Have they really been able to fulfil the mandate og their office?
3. Can they actually exit the presidency given all the constitutional constraint?
4. Will they actually boot the president out of the presidency?

Well, only time will tell, but looking at it, is it not rather too late (however that is my personal view, but i know some people will say its better late than never).
