Episode 51 out now!

Welcome to today’s episode, where we delve into the often misunderstood world of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD). This condition, closely associated with ADHD, manifests as an intense emotional response to perceived or actual rejection or criticism.

We are joined by writer and editor Lindy Ralph as we explore the nuances of RSD, its impact on daily life, and strategies for managing this challenging aspect of emotional regulation.

Big thanks to Lindy Ralph for her amazing contribution.

Can not believe Dan didn’t name me (Bianca) as the person who convinced him he was autistic. 😆

Food for thought… Saying someone “has neurodiversity” is like saying someone “has multiculturalism.” Multiculturalism refers to the presence and co-existence of diverse cultures within a society, encompassing a wide array of cultural practices, beliefs, and traditions. It describes a societal attribute, not an individual one.

Similarly, neurodiversity is a concept that recognises the variety of brain types among people, encompassing all brain types including neurotypical and neurodivergent people.

This concept is also akin to biodiversity, which describes the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat. Biodiversity includes the vast array of species, ecosystems, and genetic variations that exist in nature, contributing to the resilience and sustainability of the environment.

When we say an individual “has neurodiversity,” we misrepresent the concept. Neurodiversity is not something an individual possesses; rather, it is a framework for understanding and respecting the differences in how people think, learn, and interact with the world. Similarly, saying a plant “has biodiversity” is incorrect because biodiversity refers to the variety of life forms within an ecosystem or the entire planet, not an individual organism. A single plant can contribute to biodiversity, but it does not encompass it.

Get it?

Just dropped! The latest episode of "Late to the Party", hosted by our very own Peer Support Coordinator, Bianca and her friend, Dan.

Late To The Party - an autistic podcast is a podcast especially for late diagnosed neurodivergent people. In episode 45, Bianca and Dan speak with co-founder of Bubble Support, Jason Crabtree about disability support coordinators. Some of you may know Jason who is a parent of two autistic boys and a valued member of the Different Journeys team.

Take a listen if you are considering seeking assistance from a disability support coordinator or you would like to know what it's like to work in disability support. Also, listen out for a discussion about Jason's tattoos, a cheeky tease directed to Mel Spencer and the infamous segment "Who knows [guest] better."

LGBTI Rights Australia has added a really informative post and it is something we are very attuned to at the moment because the next two episodes will be covering topics such as this.

What do you think Equality Australia should do in this situation?

It takes years of not listening to transgender people and ignoring rock solid policy for Equality Australia to get this wrong in 2024.

We call on community to ignore this survey and demand that our community gets the standards clearly laid out in ACON and the Australian Bureau of Statistics policies which are provided in the comments!

Episode 45 - The incredible value of Support Coordinators is out now.

On this episode we welcome Jason Crabtree from Bubble Support, a disability services and support organisation. Disability support coordinators play a vital role in improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. They assess needs, develop personalized support plans, coordinate services, monitor progress, advocate for participants, and link them with community resources. Their dedication contributes significantly to the well-being of those they serve.

This is a very valuable episode if you have considered if you may need a support coordinatory OR if you would consider doing this work yourself.

And for icing on the cake we have our infamous segment 'Who knows [guest] better.'
