Last Friday, FAME participants carried out activities that allowed them to critically think about what they can do to prevent online hate speech, intolerance, radicalism and to understand why is important to e-participate.

The training day was also aimed at helping participants thinking about the critical aspects of Computer-Mediated Communication, as well as the responsibilities that we all have towards other persons and the community we belong to when interacting online.

Participants are now working on an incredible project that will help to raise awarness among social media and online users and to produce new positive online narratives through a critical approach.

Stay tuned to find out what they’re working on!

With yesterday’s meeting the participants completed the first half of the FAME Training Course.

During this fourth meeting, we talked about the means and tools that can be used to assess the reliability and credibility of news and online newspapers.

We then talked about the negative consequences that fake news, disinformation and misinformation can cause, such as online hate speech and extremist behavior, which in turn can have even more traumatic consequences.

The participants showed great sensitivity and empathy, an excellent critical approach to these topics and raised very interesting debates.

During the next meeting we will continue to deepen the issue of online hate speech and we will try, all together, to find methods and means to prevent it.

Stay tuned to know more about the next steps of the FAME Training Course, something amazing is going to happen!

Yesterday, during the third meeting, the participants of FAME Training Course put themselves in the shoes of a journalist.

Divided into groups, they pretended to be an fake editorial group, even giving themselves a name, and created fake newspaper frontpages, inventing newspaper news, simply relying on images.

This activity gave them the opportunity to reflect on how to write and spread the news objectively, on the balance between subjectivity and objectivity of the news, on how stereotypes and biases can affect both the writer and the reader, and the role that title, subtitle and the image of a news play in capturing the attention of readers and thus in its dissemination.

The participants had fun pretending to be journalists and day after day they expand their knowledge and acquire new tools and methodologies to combat fake news, disinformation and misinformation.

The first two meetings of the FAME Training Course took place on 10th and 14th February.

The first meeting was aimed at presenting the FAME project, the FAME Training Course, and the main topics such as Fake news, disinformation, misinformation, malinformation.

During the second meeting we went deeper into the topics, through non-formal activities and methodological approaches aiming at critical analysis of the news, so as to lay the foundations for the next meetings.

The first two meetings also served to get to know the participants and create a cohesive group that will work and collaborate until 24th February.

Reflections, debates and also laughter guided these first two meetings.

Today there will be the third meeting and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
