Mga Kasakit sa Kalikupan

Sa yuta nga nasubo,
Sa kahoy nga nasagmuyo,
Sa mga suba nga nagdagan,
Nga nagdala sa mga luha.

Ang hangin nga naghaguros sa kasakit,
Ang mga tanom nga paingon sa kamatayon,
Ang mga mananap nga naghangos,
Ang mga tawo nga nagkalabi.

Unta dili pa uwahi ang tanan,
Ato silang ampingan, atong panggaon,

I was taken aback when I heard a voice outside my window. Quickly, I slipped on my robe and got up to see who might need help. Peeking outside, I saw no one and shrugged it off.

"Maybe itโ€™s one of my neighborโ€™s televisions or one of those smoke-belching buses," I told myself, chalking it up to the usual city noise.

Sipping my coffee, I tried to brush it off when suddenly...

"Help! Help me, please,โ€ said the same voice.

I ran outside, ignoring everything I bumped into, but once again, there was no one. All I could see was the nearly dying apple tree my grandmother had planted years ago and a small, struggling two-leaf plant in my backyard.

Perplexed, I returned inside, only to hear the voice call out once more. This time, I didnโ€™t look back.

"Keep crying, wolf! I wonโ€™t fall for it anymore!" I muttered. "Humanity, please help me! I was wholeheartedly keeping you safe, holding back the floods, letting you take my fruits because I knew they were all you had to eat that day. But when I called, you never answered. All I need is respect! We need your respect, humanity," the voice said, angered.

I searched for the source. "See that little plant over there? Itโ€™s striving to keep itself alive! And why? To serve you, to give you and your children clean air! But you donโ€™t even care," it added, filled with disappointment.

"All you care about is your money, your technological advancements, and yourself. You forgot we existed before you. The fresh air is keeping its distance from you; fish that once thrived in the depths now wash ashore. But you dismiss it as a rare phenomenon. Wild animals? Yes, the wild animals! You treat them like actors in your theaters, calling it a zoo. This isnโ€™t normal; you did this! You ruined our space, destroyed animal habitats, and are ruining the world."

Listening, I realized something profound. I didnโ€™t need to search for the voice anymore. I was one of its killers. I killed the plants that gave me fresh air. I killed the animals that lived here long before me.

I am killing nature.

I am a killer.

THE WHISPER IN THE NIGHT

Giggling, chucklingโ€”a creepy and scary voice of a man, laughing and teasingly whispering on me from nowhere.

It was a dull and cold evening; the room was filled with darkness and deafening silence. Everyone has deeply fallen asleep, while I was still wide awake pondering and looking deeply at the ceiling, imagining random shapes and features until my mind thought of it as a scary figure, and I immediately closed my eyes and lay on bedโ€”it is what I always do at night when I can't sleep tight.

For a couple of hours being eaten by darkness, I felt a blazing sensation on my skinโ€”the cold was dumping on me. I rubbed both of my palms and dumped it into both arms to make sure I had enough temperature to ease the coldness and reached the blanket beside me to wrap and position myself to sleep again.

I heard a voiceโ€”someone's voice. Hearing it clearly, it was a man's voice I don't even know. Who could it be? The moon has already set a long time ago, and the surroundings are clear enough to even trace a noise at our place. He was saying something I could never understand.

His voice is terrifying, hair-raising, and somehow irritating, endlessly whispering at me. He laughed teasingly as if drawing my attention to listen carefully until, bit by bit, I felt more terrified than before. Hearing his voice for a long time, it gradually increases, bloodcurdling, deepening, and horrifyingโ€”it is giving me goosebumps.

He chuckled, laughed, and giggled tremendously. Out of curiosity, I tried to open my eyes, but I could not. Then, suddenly, he patted my head slowly; it felt creepy, and my hair stood up. He then grabbed my neck pitiless, barely that I couldn't breathe and was grasping for air. It seems like he was bored and got frustrated playing his toyโ€”him playing me as if I were his toy.

Uncomfortably, I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't, nor could I move my body nor utter a word and ask for help.

He let out a fiery breath, leaned closer to me, and murmured dreadfully... โ€œDIE.โ€

I was shocked. I wanted to shout, but the more I moved aggressively, trying to escape from him, he held me tight; he was getting creepier and spine-chilling.

Laughing, giggling, chuckling, gripping my neck mercilessly... โ€œDIE!โ€ He uttered.

I almost gave up, thinking this might be my last day; the signโ€”death should be here calling me, waving his dangerous weapon with a smirk on his face.

For an afterthought, it is unfair for me to die in the hands of death. I prayed, chanting the Holy prayers on my mind over and over again. Until his voice was loudly and terrifyingly screaming, feeling the pain and being burned by the Holy.

I gaspedโ€”catching my breath, my heart skipped a bit, and a sweat dauntlessly fell down on my checkโ€”and cried.

Thank God, I had still woken upโ€”was the words I first thought and uttered after what happened. I looked around; the surroundings seemed calm and silent. Everyone was deeply falling asleep. I must be stressed and tiredโ€”I must be having a nightmare.

Oppressively, a heavy feeling crushed against my chest. The cold air seeped into my bones, chilling me to the core. I could not quite make out the sound, but a faint whisper caressed my ear, โ€œDIE.โ€ An invisible energy seemed to pulse through the darkness as the whisper got closer and louder.

I prayed for the voice to stop and the nightmare to end as I closed my eyes. However, it didn't. It persisted as a continual danger and a terrifying reminder of the evil that was hidden in the shadows.

Inig alas dose naay mobisita,

โ€œUdto na o!โ€

โ€œUsa pa sad, ugma pa man pud among theater,โ€ pulong pa nako.

Mag-commute ra ko, sayo pa man pud.โ€

โ€œPag-amping intawn inday.โ€

Sa iyang pagsulti mura man og nabalaka ug nahadlok siya, maong nanglimbawot akong balahibo.

Dayon ni-aksyon og honghung ang maong tigulang og niingon, โ€œAmping adto ineng. Pag-amping! Pag-amping! Pag-amping!โ€ Mao ni ang sige niya'g balik og sulti kanako nga mura ba og wala nahimutang sa iyang paglakaw unya sige kini og lingi sa iyang luyo.

Kung buot huna-hunaon mura man og iya kong gipugngan nga moadto sa amoang skwelahan. Mura man noon naay mahitabo na dili maayo.

Mura man koโ€™g naay gipas-an nga bug-at. Ahhh! Ma-okay ra ni oy, mag-headphones nalang ko.โ€

May gani nakaila ra ko nimo maong giduol tika,โ€ daw yaga-yaga nga pagsulti niya kanako apan naghatag gihapon kini og kahadlok sa akong kaunoran.

โ€œAyaw sige og binoang anha, Kuya!โ€ sulti nako kaniya. โ€œSa Room 3 baya ko moadto ron.โ€

Kahibaw jud kong tinuod akoang nakita! Tinoud jud to!

Kay

Nikusog og nikusog paโ€™g maayo ang maong tingog.

Ganahan unta ko mulihok apan, mura maโ€™g wala nakoโ€™y kusog og hapit nakong matumba.

โ€œIla kong gipatay... iaha kong gipatay ug maong patyon tika ug ang uban pa na ga-eskwela!โ€

Pirmi tikang bantayan Jane,โ€ hunghong niya.

โ€œHunahunaa, Jane... pirmi tamong bantayan.โ€

Every year, October 24 marks a momentous occasion This day commemorates the ratification of the UN Charter in 1945. This month was described as "๐š ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฆ๐›๐จ๐ฅ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ ๐ฅ๐จ๐›๐š๐ฅ ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ" by the United Nations Organization (Un.org, 2024).

Let us consider the strength of unity on this day. The UN is the proof that, when banded together, we can face and conquer the most daunting obstacles. The goal of the UN is to create a better future for everyone, which includes combating poverty and climate change in addition to advancing peace and security.

Every nation, every citizen, has a role to play in this collaborative effort. United Nations Month reminds us that we are united even with our differences. With the richness in our cultures and traditions, we are one.

Let us continue to embrace diversity, cultivate peace, love, and hope, and build a world where unity is our greatest strength.

As we raise our flags in this month of the United Nations, we honor the ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐ข๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐จ๐ ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌโ€”and in this spirit, we find that words are not enough to describe the beauty of unity.

Let us explore this idea through the poem.

In the garden of the world, where colors intertwine,
A vine of voices sings, each shoot a sacred line.
Like rivers coincide, we flow toward the sea,
Carving paths through mountains, where our spirits agree.

Under the same sun, we dance in blinding light,
A kaleidoscope of dreams igniting the night.
With hands wide open, we gather like the stars,
Each twinkle a reminder that love heals scars.

Through valley of despair, where shadows often loom,
We sow seeds of compassion, witness resilience bloom.
From the whispers of the elders to the laughter of the young,
In every heartbeat echoes the songs of the unsung.

So let our flags unfurl, stitched with burning dreams,
A banner of unity, where love flows in streams.
For in this sacred moment, as we stand side by side,
We are one, unbreakable, a powerful global tide.
