Pedestrian seriously hurt after being struck by vehicle near high school

A pedestrian is hospitalized with major injuries this morning after being struck by a vehicle in San Marcos, officials say.

Deputies responded to the scene on S Rancho Santa Fe Road near W San Marcos Boulevard at approximately 6:35 AM, arriving to find a pedestrian lying in the roadway. The involved driver remained at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The pedestrian, possibly a juvenile, was taken to a local hospital with major injuries. All lanes of S Rancho Santa Fe Road are closed in both directions as the investigation is conducted. It’s unclear at this time how long the closure may last.

One killed, another hurt in crash

One person was killed and another is injured after a multi-vehicle crash Saturday night in Oceanside, according to police.

The collision was reported shortly before 9:30 PM in the eastbound lanes of State Route 76 near Melrose Drive. First responders pronounced one person deceased at the scene, and one other was taken to a local hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

At least two vehicles were involved in the fatal collision, which has prompted the closure of all eastbound lanes of SR-76 at N Santa Fe Avenue. The closure is expected to be lifted in time for the morning commute. Additional information regarding what led up to the crash is expected to be released later today.

An unidentified person was driving a white sedan (P1) Northbound on Kensington Drive. P1 made a right turn onto Eastbound Adams Avenue. A 32 year old female (P2) and 31 year old male (P3) were walking Southbound across Adams Avenue. P1 struck both P2 and P3. P1 then fled the scene traveling Eastbound on Adams Avenue. P2 sustained a fractured pelvis. P3 sustained various abrasions. Traffic Division officers responded and handled the investigation. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor.

Roadway near school closed amid shooting investigation

A suspect is at large following a shooting that left one person injured tonight in Oceanside, police say.

The gunfire was reported at about 6:30 PM near the intersection of Frazee Road & Oleander Drive. One person was hospitalized, though their condition was not immediately known. Officers could be seen investigating within a taped off area just steps away from César Chávez Middle School. It remains unclear at this time if anyone was on the campus when the shots rang out.

The suspect, who is said to have fled from the scene in an SUV, remains at large despite a search from the ground and air. The investigation is ongoing.

Driver Moves Victim Then Flees Scene in Fatal Hit & Run

On September 28th, 2024 at about 0228 hours, National City Police Officers responded to a report of a hit and run vehicle vs pedestrian traffic collision. The pedestrian, a 30-year-old National City resident was walking across the roadway in the 2400 block of Sweetwater Road when he was struck by a dark colored SUV. The driver of the vehicle reportedly stopped in the roadway, and moved the victim to the side of the road. The driver then got back into his vehicle and drove away from the scene.
The victim sustained traumatic head injuries and was taken to Scripps Mercy Trauma Center where he was pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity is not being released, pending notification of next of kin. The National City Police Department Traffic Division and the Investigations Division responded to the scene and are handling this investigation.
On September 28th, 2024, at about 1045 hours, the NCPD Investigations Division arrested 43 year-old Bennie Ray Womack in San Diego for vehicular homicide.

Blaze rips through abandoned auto repair shop

Roads are closed this morning after a fire broke out at an abandoned auto repair shop in Escondido, authorities say.

The incident was reported shortly before 2 AM in the 700 block of North Escondido Boulevard. Firefighters arrived to find flames burning in a structure formerly housing an auto repair shop. The blaze may have also caused damage to a nearby gas station.

North Escondido Boulevard is closed in the vicinity of the scene for the time being. No injuries have been reported, and the investigation into the cause is ongoing.

Two arrested for narcotics transportation after emergency landing on SR-76

Press Release from Oceanside PD:

"On September 26, 2024, at approximately 1:43 AM, officers from the Oceanside Police Department responded to an emergency radio call regarding a plane that had made an unexpected landing on State Route 76 near Canyon Drive.

The aircraft had landed on the roadway without any reported injuries to the occupants or any individuals on the ground. The pilot, who was unharmed, reported engine failure as the reason for the emergency
landing.

Upon further investigation, both occupants of the aircraft were contacted by authorities. A search of the plane was conducted, during which a large quantity of narcotics was discovered. Both individuals were arrested and taken into custody for illegal transportation of narcotics. Both occupants are Oceanside residents.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and is actively conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing.

Further information will be released as the investigation continues.
