The Vibrancy of Karachi and Bougainvillea

Perhaps you all have shared in this experience. When we used to ride bicycles through the streets of Karachi in our youth or play cricket with our friends in the evenings, the bougainvillea bushes with their vibrant flowers would color the entire environment. The enchanting hues of bougainvillea—pink, purple, red, and white—were very common around us. Despite the harsh conditions, these colorful leaves, often mistaken for flowers, evoked a sense of beauty and resilience. Bougainvillea thrives in Karachi's hot climate and blooms cheerfully with minimal care throughout the year. Despite the city's droughts, its strength reflects and symbolizes the endurance of the residents. This vibrancy reminds us that beauty can flourish even in adverse conditions. Perhaps this beauty and charm have been part of your experience as well.

شاید اپ سب دوست بھی اس تجربے میں شریک رہے ہوں۔ جب ہم لڑکپن میں کراچی کی گلیوں میں سائیکلیں چلاتے تھے یا شام کو اپنے دوستوں کے ساتھ کرکٹ کھیلتے تھے تو مختلف رنگوں کے پھولوں والی بوگن ویلیا جھاڑیوں کا ساتھ سارے ماحول کو رنگین بنائے رکھتا تھا۔ بوگن ویلیا کے دلکش رنگ—گلابی، جامنی، سرخ اور سفید—ہمارے ارد گرد بہت عام تھے۔ حالات کی سختیوں کے باوجود، یہ رنگین پتے، جنہیں اکثر پھول سمجھا جاتا ہے، خوبصورتی اور حوصلے کا احساس دلاتے تھے۔ بوگن ویلیا کراچی کے گرم موسم میں خوب پھلتا پھولتا ہے اور سال بھر بہت کم دیکھ بھال کے ساتھ بھی کھلتا اور مسکراتا رہتا ہے۔ شہر کی خشک سالی کے باوجود اس کی مضبوطی وہاں بسنے والوں کی سخت جانی کی عکاسی اور ترجمانی کرتی ہے۔ یہ رنگینی ہمیں یاد دلاتی ہے کہ نامساعد حالات میں بھی خوبصورتی کی طاقت پنپ سکتی ہے۔ ممکن ہے یہ حسن و خوبصورتی آپ کا بھی تجربہ رہا ہو۔

ہر فنکار کے دل میں یہ خواہش ہمیشہ سے بسی ہوتی ہے کہ وہ اپنے فانی وجود سے آگے بڑھ کر کچھ ایسا تخلیق کرے جو وقت کی قید سے آزاد ہو کر ہمیشہ قائم رہے۔ جب ہم کوئی مجسمہ تراشتے ہیں، تصویر بناتے ہیں، شاعری کرتے ہیں، یا نثر میں خیالات کا اظہار کرتے ہیں، تو ہمارے دل میں یہ آرزو ضرور موجود ہوتی ہے کہ ہمارے جانے کے بعد بھی ہمارے وجود کی شہادت باقی رہے۔ ہم چاہتے ہیں کہ ہمارا فن ہمارے فانی وجود کی یادگار بنے اور انسانیت کی فلاح میں ہمارا حصہ تسلسل کے ساتھ باقی رہے۔

فنکار کو اپنے فنا ہونے کا شدید احساس ہوتا ہے۔ وہ جانتا ہے کہ وقت کا پہیہ مسلسل آگے بڑھ رہا ہے اور ایک دن وہ اس دنیا میں نہیں ہوگا، لیکن اس کے ساتھ ہی وہ یہ بھی جانتا ہے کہ اس کا فن اُس کی ہمیشگی کی علامت بن سکتا ہے۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ وہ تخلیقی عمل میں اپنی روح کا ایک لافانی حصہ ڈالنے کی کوشش ضرور کرتا ہے تاکہ اس کا کام اُس کے جانے کے بعد بھی اُس کے وجود کی نمائندگی کرے۔

فنکار کی یہ تخلیقی کوشش صرف ذاتی یادگار نہیں ہوتی، بلکہ ایک سماجی ذمہ داری بھی ہوتی ہے، کیونکہ وہ چاہتا ہے کہ اس کے فن کے ذریعے دنیا بہتر ہو، انسانیت کو علم اور روشنی ملے، اور آنے والی نسلیں اُس کے کام سے سیکھ سکیں۔ اس طرح اُس کا فن تادیر قائم وجود بن جاتا ہے، جو جسمانی وجود کے ختم ہونے کے بعد بھی زندہ رہتا ہے۔

فنکار کی یہ جستجو ایک طرح سے اُس ازلی خوف کا بھی جواب ہے جو فنا سے جڑا ہوا ہے۔ وہ دہلیزِ وقت پر اپنے فن کا گلدستہ رکھ کر اس دنیا سے رخصت ہونا چاہتا ہے، تاکہ اُس کا وجود دائمی نہ سہی، لیکن دیر رس طور پر قائم رہے۔ اُس کے فن کی خوشبو وقت کی ہوا میں تادیر پھیلی رہے اور اُس کا تخلیقی عمل آنے والی نسلوں کے لیے مشعل راہ بنے۔

What Do We Mean by the Far Side of the Moon?

The term "far side of the moon" refers to the part of the moon that we can never see from Earth. This is the side of the moon that is always hidden from the eyes of those living on Earth. This phenomenon occurs because the moon rotates on its axis at the same rate that it orbits around the Earth, a cycle that takes approximately 27.3 days to complete. Due to this synchronous rotation, we always see the same side of the moon, known as the near side.

The far side remained a deep mystery to humans until 1959 when a Soviet spacecraft sent back the first images of it. Now we know that, unlike the near side which has large dark patches called "maria," the far side is characterized by a higher number of craters and very few maria. This difference is due to the far side's thicker crust, which better resists the flow of lava that formed the maria on the near side.

Imagine that you become capable of traveling back in time and meet your grandfather before he had any children. If you somehow prevent him from having children, it would mean that your parents would never be born, and consequently, you would never be born either. But here lies the question: if you were never born, how could you travel back in time to alter your grandfather's life?

This paradox highlights the complexities and difficulties of changing history. وقت میں پیچھے یا اگے کی سمت سفر کرنے کے قابل ہونا ایک دلچسپ خیال ہے جو ہمیشہ سے لوگوں کو متجسس کرتا آیا ہے۔ یہ خیال ہمیں ماضی اور مستقبل میں جھانکنے کی اجازت دیتا ہے، لیکن اس کے ساتھ کچھ بڑے سوالات بھی اُٹھتے ہیں۔ ان میں سے ایک مشہور فلسفیانہ مسئلہ "دادا کا تضاد" ہے۔

ALAS FLASH FICTION

The Literary Meeting 2030 is about to begin. We are all seated in our places. My name is Takasu, and I reside in the Metropolis Dome with my colleagues Tim, Yuri, and Liz. It is here that this literary gathering is taking place. Our dome is a symbol of hope and the possibility of new human settlements in space. This is the first human colony in space, established through a joint effort between NASA and the International Space Agency, with a staggering investment of 60 billion dollars.

It took us seven months to get here. There is no technology available for returning to Earth. Whether it’s life or death, Mars is now our permanent home. After passing through strict selection processes and undergoing rigorous training at the Johnson Space Center for several years, we have been able to successfully manage everyday life and scientific activities in the harsh conditions of Mars. We and Earth are connected through the internet.

We engage in eight hours of serious scientific activity every day, and in our free time, we seek mental relief through social websites. Facebook and Google keep us connected with Earthly realities and our families. You might be surprised to know that we are now more aware of and connected to Earth’s issues than we were while living there. The truth is, our minds are constantly drenched in the downpour of Earth’s conditions.

In today’s literary meeting, I will be presenting a paper titled: “The Beautiful World’s Ugly Political and Geographical Divisions: The Cause of the Violation of Human Values.” Tim will speak on: “Poverty, Intellectual Deprivation, and the Blind Prioritization of Vast Resources.” Liz, who is also a poet, will recite two poems today. The first is titled: “The Lament of the Helpless Mother and Child, Echoing to the Heavens,” and the second: “The Scene of Human Dreams Dying Among the Galaxies.” Yuri’s concluding paper is titled: “A Welfare Goal of 60 Billion Dollars in Today’s Moment: Earth or the Sky?”

Dreams are believed to play a crucial role in our creativity. Many artists and writers, like the famous novelist Mary Shelley, have had breakthroughs inspired by their dreams. Shelley dreamed of a scientist who created life, which inspired her to write the novel "Frankenstein

Moreover, dreams contribute to our well-being. They help us process emotions and stress, providing a mental "rehearsal" for challenging situations. For example, dreaming about solving a complex problem might help you feel more prepared when tackling it in real life.

In essence, dreams are not just random images but a vital part of our mental and emotional health, enhancing our creativity and helping us cope with daily life.
