Ulf Tischbirek was born in Düsseldorf in 1955 and studied cello at the Hanover University of Music with Prof. Klaus Storck and with Prof. Radu Aldulescu (Nice/Rome). He was a scholarship holder of the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes", the 25th national selection "Konzerte Junger Künstler" and prize winner of numerous competitions.
After several years as 1st solo cellist at the Staatstheater Braunschweig, he has taught as professor for violoncello and chamber music at the Musikhochschule Lübeck since 1986. Since 2010 he has also been a visiting professor at the Xi'an Conservatory of Music / China. Many of his former students are now in good orchestral positions or teach themselves at colleges and music schools.
Concerts as well as radio and television recordings have taken him all over the world as a soloist and chamber musician. In his CD recordings he also dedicates himself to lesser-known works of all epochs from Baroque to New Music.
He gives master classes for violoncello and chamber music in Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Brazil, Japan, Korea and China.
