Hi everyone we are a dragon boat team here in the Philippines (Dumaguete), please help us like our poster 🙏. It will be a great help for us. Most of the paddlers/members are students, the prize for this competition will be a great help for their travel expenses (food, fare, accommodation) as they compete this coming July 22-23 in Bohol, Philippines.
Mizuchi Dragons came from the word “Mizuchi” or water dragon which is a type of Japanese dragon or legendary serpent-like creature. It is perceived as water deity. As such, we are a team possessing not just physical strength, but also of beauty, courage, and core values.
As a water deity, warrior and protector of the seas, our advocacy is for the protection and preservation of our environment, especially the seas.
As paddlers we share the responsibility and accountability of being active stewards of our seas, by maintaining its cleanliness and constantly educating our youth in the community about the preservation and conservation of our environment. Through this, we are not only part of our community but are active citizens, involve in making solutions to the current issues in our locality and cognizant on future development that will impact or destroy its natural form. That is why we regularly conduct coastal clean-up in order to raise awareness on the importance of saving our seas.
We are a paddling team from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental founded in 2018, envisions to being “a pioneer team that promotes brotherhood and sisterhood in the entire dragon boat community of Negros Oriental.”
Moreover, our mission includes fostering sportsmanship and friendship and inculcating the core values of honesty, integrity, and service in the community.
Sharing our goals, aspiration and advocacy is Team Hilera who is a dragon boat team also based in Dumaguete City. It was founded on May 2, 2015 in Dipolog City. It is primarily a dragon boat team with members engaging in other sports from time to time. It welcomes anyone of any age, religion, gender and sexual orientation, educational attainment, or physical or financial capacity. As much as we actively engage in actions to preserve our marine ecosystem, we also actively promote the rights of every person like being part in the campaign for the LGBTQ community. We believe in equality so our training program and treatment of all paddlers are the same across genders. We are a competitive team so for those who would like to do dragon boat as only a recreational sport, Team Hilera might not be for them. We train to compete! We compete to win! We uphold and practice the values of respect, honesty, trust, love and care. We believe that communication is important in our relationship as teammates. There will be challenges but we firmly believe that when we are grounded on our values, we will survive any set of odds along the way. Besides, we should live up to the main value of dragon boating: UNITY and ONENESS, and we make sure that we never forget that we are first and foremost FRIENDS!
