I've been around the digital advertising environment for 20 years. I've seen exponential growth in what we can achieve with the tools we work with. So for me, political advertising through paid campaigns has been a huge red flag.

It's incredible to see how a platform who profited so much from the tweets of trump are finally taking action before the world is further divided, fuelled through targeted ads and content.

While it doesn't sound like they're going to stop the President from organically tweeting from the toilet about an important covfefe at 3am, it is a step in the right direction for the upcoming US election and others around the world and sets a solid precedent for other platforms to focus on social good over profit margins.

Our agency lives and breathes the ethos "Just f*cking do it".

Why? Because greatness doesn't happen by sitting on your butt waiting for your ideas to become a reality without actually taking action.

Stop worrying about the risks, what people will think, how every intricate detail will be analysed, praised or criticised. The truth is, nobody actually cares and doing something is always better than doing nothing.

Facebook are launching their long anticipated News tab! With a list of impressive partners joining the platforms latest attempt to take over the digital space, we can look forward to regular updates (completely curated to each individuals algorithm) from the Post, the Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, BuzzFeed News and several local news publications from the US.

This is a a turning point for Facebook. But how will this tie in with advertising and the change in policy for political advertising and fact checking?

I guess we will have to see if the digital world and it's inhabitants will be completely reliant on Facebook as their only platform for information or will this become a new way to only view news that is tailored to your data and further reinforce your already formed ideals.

More importantly, can we trust the news coming out of Facebook and it's newly associated sources?

During Zuckerberg's recent visit to the House Financial Services Committee, Zuckerberg was asked outright if politicians will be able to tell lies about their political opponents, very flustered, he responded with “probably.”

The digital world is about to get very interesting.

I have a print of this Banksy on the wall. I think it gives a nice sense of perspective, that It in life nothing there are no guarantees. Even the seemingly untouchable can fall (remember blockbuster??), but alternatively, when times are tough, success may be just around the corner if you just hang in there and persist. A realistic perspective, humility, persistence and gratitude are the keys. And please, please make sure you enjoy the journey. Often times the destination isn’t nearly as fulfilling and rewarding as the road to getting there. And lastly, there is always hope if you have the right mindset and passion for what you want to achieve. Happy Wednesday everyone.

I heard this on the company playlist a moment ago and it was a not so subtle reminder that while we're all busy growing businesses, working on projects, building better futures for ourselves, our staff and our loved ones - there are others who are, to put it gently, not so fortunate.

It gives me nothing but gratitude for the life I'm lucky enough to have today.

I give you 2 of the greatest voices of all time, on one stage, sadly, never to occur again. All the money, all the food, all the adoration, talent and spoils of fame; nothing in the world could save one of them from the tragedy that is mental illness, depression and addiction. RIP Chris.

This post is important for 3 reasons. Firstly, don’t panic clients, he was not ‘working’ and as such violated no child labour laws. Secondly, if there is anything slightly miss today campaign wise - positive or negative - this may be the cause. And last of all, at six months old he probably knows most social platforms better than anyone aged 50 and above so, child labour laws aside, once he starts verbalising in a coherent manner he may qualify as a specialist off the books consultant - time will tell I guess. He’s a huge fan of Tik Tok already - just a free little tip for those paying attention at home / work :) 💖

Q4 is coming, are you ready?

Here are my key takeaways: What NOT to do!

• Too-small audiences. You want your cold traffic pocket to be as large as possible, as the Facebook machine works best if you give it space for learning.

• Too-small budget. You need to use adequate budgets, again, for the Facebook machine to have space for learning. Ideally, make twice your break-even point your daily budget, and then scale it up using the same campaign.

• Sticking to ad set-level budgeting is a bad practice, not least because it’s not compliant with the future of Facebook ads management.

• Using low bid caps. Low manual bids will not generate enough traffic for you, and you will not be able to use them later on for your Q4 promotions.

• Not using automatic placement. Facebook continuously looks for places where traffic is the cheapest. If you limit it with these options, your cost per 1,000 impressions will go higher; hence, losses.

After the tragic death last year of a precious 8tb raid as the local backup (in case there should be weather changes beyond our control in the cloud), I decided all local backup would be done on ssd.

I then proceeded to travel interstate for work with my primary ssd backup and returned unable to find it. After 24 hours of prayer and offerings to whomever would accept my soul for its return somehow I managed to find it. I also learnt I left a mouse I don’t recall taking at the hotel I stayed at. But that’s beside the point.

I cannot put into words the relief at its return, I’m never taking it anywhere again.

For those that appreciate the horror of data loss (be it through drive failure or just sheer carelessness) you will be pleased to know it is currently being mirrored to another drive just in case it should go walkabout again.

I propose that all devices should be fitted with GPS or Bluetooth tile like tech that is actually reliable and accurate so they can be located at all times.

Long story short, thank f*ck I found this drive.

Just a quick heads up - coming October, Facebook is replacing some metrics in their reporting to make the data more accurate. I didn't think much was relevant in the article until I saw they were getting rid of the 'Leads (Form)' metric, which pretty well impacts every client campaign we run, and replacing it with 'On Facebook Leads' which will be nested under 'Leads'. If any of this rings a bell it's probably worth a read.

As part of our efforts to improve our ads metrics offerings, we are removing a number of metrics with ones that may provide insights that are more actionable. We recommend learning about the replacement metrics and transitioning to them as soon as possible.

Hiring someone to improve my efficiency is already proving invaluable.

This handy little flip book can now be curated and used to keep everyone up to date via social media with my current workload and / or how the day is progressing in general.

Genius idea really since there is no setting anywhere to flag your current status as such.

I do apologise for the language to anyone not used to such vulgarities but we didn't print it, plus it's more for emphasis than any kind of brand voice were trialling to determine market response.
