What’s up TAMS!

Do you want to know the secrets of the Simbuhan journalists? If yes, then join us this Tuesday to hear the tips and tricks of journalism and broadcasting. Here at Simbuhan-SHS, we believe that learning and digital journalism must not cease despite the present pandemic. In line with this, the event aims to explore journalism, broadcasting, and digital arts aligned with the current issues and problems locally and internationally.

The event is a two-part activity composed of a webinar and a workshop. The webinar will discuss the state and importance of student journalism during the pandemic. The workshop will feature areas of journalism such as

Huli man, ang mahalaga ay TUMINDIG.

Kaisa ang Simbuhan-SHS sa laging pag-alala sa makasaysayang pagtitipon ng mga Pilipino sa EDSA People Power Revolution 1986 laban sa diktaturyang Marcos.



Makalipas ang 36 na taon, nananatili sa ating alaala ang dugong makabayan ng mga Pilipino, patunay na hindi nagwawagi sa malakas na pwersa ng mga mamayan ang diktaturya at mapang-abusong pamahalaan.



Sa panahon na patuloy na iniiba ang kasaysayan dala ng disinformation at internet trolls, mahalagang ipakalat at ipaalala na ang diwa ng EDSA ay ang dahilan ng ating paglaya.

This issue highlights the strength of every stakeholder in the community, an attempt to strive hard despite the ongoing pandemic.

Borne out of bravery, resiliency, and compassion, Simbuhan-SHS believes campus journalism will still prevail in this new normal setup. Kudos to all the students, teachers, administrators, and stakeholders for making this possible!

A triumph of truth, over lies.
- Maria Ressa, The Guardian (2021)

Simbuhan-SHS, guided by the core values of FEU-C; Fortitude, Excellence, Uprightness, and Compassion, believes in the power of press freedom.

Hence, we would like to congratulate, Maria Ressa, co-founder and CEO of Rappler, for winning the prestigious Nobel Peace Award 2021 along with Dmitry Muratov of Russia.

Quoting the Norwegian Nobel Committe (2021), Ressa and Muratov were rewarded "for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace."

Maria Ressa is also the first Filipino Nobel Peace Prize laureate and the 18th woman to win this award. She became the symbol of freedom of expression and freedom of the press in the Philippines.

Ruben Cuevas, alias of the poet, Jose F. Lacaba wrote the poem Prometheus Unbound. This poem is a classic example of subtle protest poetry meant to speak up against the injustices of Martial Law. It turned out to be an acrostic, in which the first letters of each line, when read downwards, spelled out a message different from that of the rest of the poem

Did you know that Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. exposed former President Ferdinand E. Marcos’ plan to place the Philippines under Martial Law and even called it Oplan Sagitarrius?

This happened on Sen. Aquino’s privileged speech dated September 13, 1972.

Eight days later, President Marcos signed Proclamation No. 1081 and it was only on September 23 that the Philippines was OFFICIALLY PLACED under Martial Law.

Martial Law is dubbed as one of the darkest chapters in Philippine history. Under this rule, only one man rules the country: the commander-in-chief. There was no congress, no senate, and even the civil and political rights were all abolished.

Day 1 MECQ Writing Challenge
(inspired ng ECQ Poetry Challenge ng San Anselmo Publications Inc.)

Dahil kakasimula pa lang ng BER month at maulan-ulan ang panahon dala ng Bagyong Jolens, heto ang una nating prompt:

Magsulat ng tula o dagli (Filipino, Ingles, o anumang wika na may salin) na maglalarawan sa hindi mo makakalimutang karanasan tuwing umuulan, bumabagyo, kumukulog at kidlat, o malamig ang panahon. (P.S. Pwede naman yung panahong na nag-mumusic video ka sa bus o van habang nasa byahe, trapik, at maulan.) Ikomento ang akda sa post na ito.

MECQ WRITING CHALLENGE
(inspired by the San Anselmo Publications ECQ Poetry Writing Challenge)

Simbuhan-SHS always believes in the power of writing especially now that we are confined in the four corners of the room. With this, we are INVITING EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR 22-DAY WRITING CHALLENGE starting this September 9, 2021 until September 30, 2021. This writing challenge will serve as an outlet for our boredom, anxiousness, fear, or any emotion brought by the pandemic.

Everyone (teacher, student, staff, parents etc.) is invited to write a flash fiction/dagli and a poem based on a given theme. This theme will be posted everyday at 7:00 am. Language is not an issue here at Simbuhan-SHS. You can write in Filipino, English, or other languages as long as you would provide us a translated version.

There are just some simple rules you need to follow for this challenge. Kindly check the poster below!

P.S.
At 5:00 pm tomorrow, we are going to choose the best literary piece of the day. Chosen writers can be featured on the literary folio of Simbuhan. Finishers will also receive a special certificate from us. Plus, do not forget the ‘bragging rights’ of enlightening and comforting others in the time of pandemic. =)

Mga Tagubilin, Paalam, at Mensahe ng Patnugutan ng Simbuhan-SHS

Hindi naging madali ang akademikong taon ng 2020-2021. Mula sa malawak na mundo ng FEU Cavite SHS Department, nakulong tayo sa apat na sulok ng ating mga bahay at kuwarto. Pero gaya ng paniniwala natin na ang pagkatuto ay laging magpapatuloy at nagpapatuloy, maluwat nating natapos ang taong ito.

At ngayon, narito na tayo sa huling bahagi ng ating buhay-estudyante sa SHS: ang ating pagtatapos.

BASAHIN: Naglabas ng joint statement ang FEU, kasama ang DLSU, UST, at ADMU upang tutulan ang pangre-red tag ni Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. ng National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

Ito ay matapos magbigay ng pahayag si Lt. Gen. Parlade sa DZBB kahapon, kung saan inakusahan niyang "recruitment havens" ng New People's Army (NPA) ang 18 unibersidad sa Pilipinas.

Joint Statement on the accusations of Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr on schools being recruitment havens of the CPP/NPA

According to news reports, Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr of the NTF-ELCAC issued a statement yesterday alleging that 18 universities, including ours, are recruitment havens for the New People’s Army. This charge, though, is really “getting old”—a rehash of the public accusation the general made in 2018—irresponsibly since cast without proof.

We assert that: As Philippine schools, we value the Filipinos’ basic Constitutional rights of speech, thought, assembly, and organization. As universities with high aspirations for our country, we seek to direct our students to engage in acts that contribute to the strengthening of social cohesion, defend the country's democratic institutions, and promote nation-building. And as institutions of higher learning that are stewards of the youth, repositories and producers of knowledge, and builders of communities, we must retain independence and autonomy from the State and other social institutions.

We therefore object to General Parlade’s statement and emphasize that our institutions neither promote nor condone recruitment activities of the New People's Army and, indeed, of any movement that aims to violently overthrow the government.

We take as a sacred trust our primary responsibilities to promote learning and safeguard the rights of the young who are entrusted to our care. We are committed to this mission and have always held ourselves accountable to our primary constituents, the learners, and by extension, their parents.
