We are proud to present several new shirts.

Let us start with S.V.E.S.T. The first shirt, a recent collaboration between Spica and Valnoir, is named ‘Urfaust’. The second features the cover artwork from the very same album, drawn by Spica.

We then turn our attention to ABIGOR with a shirt inspired by the elegant visuals of their 2007 album “Fractal Possession”.

It would be a significant oversight not to mention the recent release of their 30th-anniversary album “Taphonomia Aeternitatis”. Attempting to describe it would have me quickly exhaust all laudatory adjectives, so I will simply say this: if you're not listening to it right now, you're missing out on something spectacular. ABIGOR are kings; no one else comes close.

Finally, we’ve restocked the classic DEATHSPELL OMEGA hoodies for “Si Monumentum...”, “Fas”, and “Paracletus”.

All of these can be found at the NoEvDia webshop.

A little over five years ago, Deathspell Omega returned from Brittany after recording “The Furnaces of Palingenesia”.

Afterwards, the band started rehearsing to prepare for a series of concerts. Line-up complications eventually doomed the attempt at performing this particular album live.

The following video of the song “The Fires of Frustration” is an internal working document – the kind produced when musicians are scattered across a continent. The recording device was a smartphone.

While the idea of concerts for “Furnaces…” is now water under the bridge, we can at least divulge a fraction of what we were working on. The performance itself reflects the early phase of a series of rehearsals and, as such, is not flawless.

We are proud to present a project that has been in the works for a year, a collaboration with Valnoir (Metastazis) and Le 7e Oeil. This work portrays the discography of Deathspell Omega, from “Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice” to the present.

There is a traditional black ink print edition – details of which can be viewed on noevdia.com – as well as an edition made with invisible ink. The peculiarity of the latter is that it becomes visible only when exposed to the risk of destruction, through fire or any other extremely high-temperature sources above 115°C. This unique feature ensures that each print, once revealed, is truly one of a kind.

Both editions are printed on 240gsm Arches paper and are limited to 25 copies. They are available now via NoEvDia’s webshop exclusively.

Emerging from northern Portugal in the formative years of the second wave of Black Metal, Angrenost has been defined not by output but by its unorthodox evolution. With roots planted by Pursan and A. Ara, the project has been a vessel for exploring the evil within man, free from the constraints of the prevailing scene or current trends.

The reunion of Pursan with A. Ara, alongside Erdsaf and M. Skúlason, has yielded Angrenost’s most mature and inspired offering to date: “Magna Lua Ordem Mística” (‘The Mystical Order of the Great Moon’). A work full of bygone tradition, elevated by a mastery of sound, as well as words and spirit that make it shine with a distinct light.

The album invites listeners to walk a contemplative path across the ephemeral nature of existence. It is a narrative of humanity’s voyage from the still waters of the immaterial plane into the mortal sphere of chaos and corruption – a world where the celestial bond fractures and the soul of Man encounters raw embodiments of the diabolical.

“Magna Lua Ordem Mística” stands at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, blending esoteric lore with the intricacies of composition. It represents a sincere and powerful display of everything that makes Black Metal an obscure and sinister art form.

In days when artificial intelligence dominates the headlines and some creators fear for their livelihoods while others astutely enslave AI to boost their own output, it's refreshing to enter an exhibition space and witness someone like Jean-Luc Navette proudly display 150 pieces of backwards-looking, digital-free graphite drawings executed with utmost confidence.

Navette is not a newcomer but a well-known figure in the tattoo community. Nowadays, his focus has shifted from tattoo needles to works such as these drawings: simultaneously obsolete and as fresh as a tombstone in the wee hours of the night. The series is thematically rooted in a bygone America, with a soundtrack that could be New Orleans blues or early rock'n'roll. At times, the drawings are structured as double exposures, hinting at yellowed photographs decaying in a damp cellar.

Navette sometimes transforms human faces into stacks of smoke or voids, conjuring up ghosts lurking in the shadows of the past and the netherworlds which are always near us. He connects the material world with the realm of spirits and buried traumas, revealing the uncanny dimension that’s often hidden under a veil of banality. The title of his recent book, freely translated as ‘We Are Only a Secret’, offers a clue to bear in mind.

Anecdotally, I was reminded of what Sodality tried to convey with the cover of their recent album, “Benediction part 1”: a drawing based on an old Hungarian photograph of devout crones, where evil masquerades as benevolence. Isn’t it often enough, after all, to stare for a long moment? The vision blurs, whispers echo, and certainty fades.

Deathspell Omega will soon have existed for a quarter of a century. Exactly twenty years ago now, we were recording the first incarnation of Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice – the one that was ultimately discarded.

Seen by themselves, such numbers are of little importance. Deathspell Omega has always looked towards the future. We place our full attention and energy on the completion of further work and on mastering new challenges. Bygone times are mere steps on a ladder, and we rarely glance backwards. This past summer – as France was besieged by a crushing heatwave – we were deliberating what is left of this entity’s future. It occurred to us that we have a short window of opportunity to breathe life into a project that’s been lingering in the shadows for a while.

Many years ago, Valnoir of Parisian art studio Metastazis sent me a series of pictures he was working on. This gave me the distinct impression that he was capable of condensing relatively complex ideas into one striking image. And so here we are, presenting Deathspell Omega emblems interpreted by Valnoir – one for each recording, from SMR,C to The Long Defeat.

Needless to say, these are by no means intended to replace the original covers by the late Timo Ketola, Manual Tinnemans, and Dehn Sora. They are simply an exploration of alternate aesthetic choices. Each design casts light on certain conceptual aspects which could not be represented in the original layouts. It’s a rare backwards glance at the smouldering ruins of the past two decades, gone by at the speed of lightning.

https://www.noevdia.com/artist/deathspell-omega/

The pre-sale will remain open for two weeks. Delivery is expected at some point in mid to late March. For practical reasons, it is highly unlikely that we will ever have all of these designs in stock simultaneously again. We’ll have a few extra copies from the first print run, but in limited quantities and in selected sizes only.

NoEvDia presents: Sodality – “Benediction part I”

LP out today, CD to follow sometime in February:
https://www.noevdia.com/artist/sodality/?orderby=date

The genesis of “Benediction” can be traced to Hungary. Or more precisely, an encounter with a photography book, weathered by time, depicting rituals of the Christian faith: masses, moments of devotion to the saints, and prayers. These black-and-white photographs – which capture moments of selfless abandonment, ascetic discipline, and obedience – were veritably vibrating with the malefica inherent to Christianity. A markedly sinister presence of old crones, usually considered beacons of benevolence, appeared to make reality crack and reveal the latent image behind Catholic faith and ritual. The album's title, naturally, should be read ambiguously.

Whilst capturing moments of the subconscious speaking in tongues, the songs on “Benediction” expand on the derelict Black Metal heard on “Gothic”, spiralling even further into absolute darkness. Sodality’s musical incarnation inches ever closer to the abyss, mirroring dedication taken to extremes – which is the utmost essence of the believer.

Teitanblood – “Purging Tongues, gatefold vinyl re-press

Expected release date: October 24, 2022

Due to circumstances beyond our reach, we are no longer able to press this release in the form it has existed so far - including the laser etching that was featured on the b-side of the vinyl. We decided to fully re-brand the release with Dávid Glomba with less cryptic optics yet more visceral and eschatologically visions to echo the terrifying call for repentance at the end of times.

In this re-press rather than the etching, the B-side vinyl will include an alternative version of “Purging Tongues”.

Spawned forth from the deepest abyss in Montreal, Québec, in late 2010, Gevurah have released in 2016 their highly-acclaimed debut “Hallelujah!”, as well as two vicious MLPs, namely “Necheshirion” in 2013 and “Sulphur Soul” in 2018. Now, blood-thirsty and with blades sharpened, the band presents its most intense and scalding release thus far. Somber and vicious Black Metal, yet authentic and efficient in its delivery, “GEHINNOM” is a journey through the physical and metaphysical desert, realm of death and transformation. From the pits of Gehinnom, we tread deeper into the abyss towards the final resurrection, with eyes opened and spirit liberated. Each track represents a step in this process of negating the flesh, linking microcosm with macrocosm and deepening the fall of Man.

Out now: Kathaaria - “To be shunned by all…as centres of Pestilence”, CD/LP

Bandcamp: http://kathaaria.bandcamp.com/

“To be shunned by all…as centres of Pestilence”, the sophomore album of Germany’s Kathaaria, took fourteen years to manifest. In 2008, when EAL released the band’s debut, we were proud to support an act that wasn’t musically predictable. Perhaps the guitarwork hinted somewhat towards the most forward-thinking acts of the time, and a general affinity for the weird. In any case, the record was deeply personal and entirely unaffiliated with any currents or trends. Black Metal done by people who know their metal but refuse to abide by conventions.

In a nutshell, this blatant disregard for norms and expectations is precisely what “To be shunned by all…as centres of Pestilence” is about. It’s an album that falls into no fixed category besides the one reserved for highly personal takes on Black Metal.

The vocals veritably jump at your throat, the organic drum sound delivers barrages of artillery sprinkled with surprising ideas, and the guitars… well, it’s simply a pleasure to witness such a relentless riff delivery, never short on daring ventures. It’s evident that both members – likely due to their involvement with other touring bands – have grown immensely as musicians over the past decade. Their instrumental mastery turns “To be shunned by all…” into a masterclass of extreme underground metal.

There’s a lot that comes over as very real on this record: the sound, the songwriting, and the overall performance. The spirit is not one of today – its roots lie elsewhere. And most importantly, sincere. So, “To be shunned by all…as centres of Pestilence” is Kathaaria’s epitaph. We’re left with a peculiar legacy in the realm of German Black Metal.

Four years after their latest offering - the “Sulphur Soul” MLP - Gevurah strikes back with its most intense and scalding release to date. Sombre and vicious yet authentic and efficient, “Gehinnom” is a Black Metal journey through the physical and metaphysical desert: the realm of death and transformation. Release date: October 14, 2022, on EAL Productions and Profound Lore.

“Adumbration of the Veiled Logos” is but a 58-minute interpretation of the ungraspable numinous from five angles. It speaks of the shrouded paradox of divine desolation—twining ferocity, solemnity, and utter immensity through the coalescence of black and death metal.

Two years from intention to completion and recorded across two diametrically opposed continents, Verberis’ sophomore album is a work that has undergone yet further refinement from 2018’s “Vorant Gnosis” EP, and the band's antipodean wellspring.

An evolution spurred by the clearing of vision and honing in upon the specific essences most relevant to it, “Adumbration of the Veiled Logos” is a monument whose aural intensity is matched both by the arresting artwork of Ars Alchymiae as well as the album’s metaphysical subject matter.

As with the preceding EP, the foundations of “Adumbration of the Veiled Logos” were received by DA (guitars) and then actualised through the indispensable expertise of JSM (percussion), NH (vocals) and MP (bass).

“Adumbration of the Veiled Logos” will be released by NoEvDia on June 17.

Stand witness to “The Long Defeat”! Hearken to the first emanation of the third era of Deathspell Omega; forty-four minutes of Black Metal enacted through five instalments. Recorded live by the French power trio in July 2021. Bile and venom distilled and added until the leaves fell. Scheduled for release on March 23, pre-orders now available from the NoEvDia webshop:
https://bit.ly/NoEvDia-DEATHSPELL-OMEGA

“The Long Defeat” unfolds over three parallel storylines told via three different mediums. Two in writing: the lyrics, as well as a fable. The third speaks through the artwork – two metres’ worth of maniacally detailed visions depicting the same premise its written content draws from. All three are fundamentally entwined but diverging in narrative, each complementing or contradicting the others.

When announcing NoEvDia's collaboration with Lifvsleda last week, we took a cautious tone regarding the delivery of all things vinyl. Let us be more upbeat this time around. “Lifvspänn” – a seven-inch EP featuring the title track and a cover of Darkthrone's “Transilvanian Hunger”, sung in Swedish – will be released on February 25. Pre-orders available now on noevdia.com.

Tunnel vision, gritted teeth, and shivering. For someone who’s been involved with Black Metal for over a quarter of a century, the bar to be taken by surprise is predictably high. That feeling of absolute rapture becomes a rare occurrence.

Yet, the magic of this genre is that there are records written and released today which manage to summon spirits of ages past – all the while adding just the right amount of know-how and expanded songwriting skills. The result ends up being something timeless, with both demonstrably deep roots and strong claims on shaping the future. Black Metal infused with reverent reminiscence of the 1990s, but that still feels from the now. Old, but in no way obsolete. Emotionally implacable. And that’s what yields the aforementioned tunnel vision, gritted teeth, and shivering.

The words above pertain to Lifvsleda It is with great pride that NoEvDia will release a seven-inch EP featuring one new song and a cover of Darkthrone’s “Transilvanian Hunger” – sung in Swedish – followed by their second album. “Sepulkral dedikation”.

Tentative release dates are late March for the EP and some point in April for the album. To be confirmed, seeing as how all things vinyl are somewhat unreliable nowadays.

14/12/2021

In April 2021, Cultes des Ghoules released two digital EPs: “Deeds Without a Name” and “Eyes of Satan”. As of December 2021, both of them are available on one and the same vinyl. In accordance with the band’s own request – as a means of perpetuating a certain sinister current of ages past – said LP will bear the mark of EAL Productions.

On “Deeds Without a Name”, we find a more traditional Cultes des Ghoules sound: Black Metal heavily laden with doom influences, steeped in witchcraft and foul magic. The songs are a bit more intricate than the predominantly straightforward material on “Sinister”, but now presented in a harsher soundscape. Nonetheless, the characteristic sound of each instrument is still clearly audible: evil guitar riffs, Hellenic worship in the basswork, erratic and peculiar drumming, and marvellous use of eerie-sounding keyboards.

Cultes des Ghoules themselves describe “Deeds Without a Name” as the end of ‘a certain era of the band’. Interestingly, its companion EP is supposedly an indication of where they are headed next.

“Eyes of Satan” is the result of an improvisational trance session in Black Lodge, undertaken on the summer solstice of 2020 in solar alignment with Hell. The music is perhaps best described as ritual ambient with a core of Black Metal. The guitars are there – but with Machine’s brooding waves of distortion further in the background – as is a slower and more tribalistic take on Windom Earle’s percussive style. The music’s main driving force are the smothering layers of organs, keyboards, effects, and chants. The multi-faceted vocals of Mark of the Devil are as theatrical as ever, but here delivered more as rabid recitals and intonations.

While undeniably experimental, “Eyes of Satan” is anything but random and directionless. The course is set deep into the realms of deeply unsettling psychedelic terror.

10/12/2021

The inimitable Funeral Mist – one of the most iconic bands on the NoEvDia roster – has delivered unto us “Deiform”. Seven musical pieces contemplating the nature of divinity and mortal existence through the fiery lens of black metal.

As did the three past albums, “Deiform” exhibits a completely different approach to sound production compared to its predecessor. Nevertheless, from the first song to the last, the source of this multi-layered madness is unmistakable; all the classic Funeral Mist characteristics are present. Ambitious interludes which are impressive compositions in their own right. Innovative use of various samples which become a living, breathing part of the music. And frenzied oration delivered by what many believe to be the best and most versatile vocalist in black metal. All culminating in spiritual violence in its crudest form.

“Deiform” is a holistic experience, in the sense that music, art, and photography – all deriving from the project’s mastermind, D. Rostén – is connected, and thereby best experienced in unison. CD and LP now available from the NoEvDia webshop; see profile for direct link.
