Salinas Salt Spring

Nestled in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya, the Salinas Salt Spring, once hailed as one of the '7 Wonders of the Philippines,' unfolds a tale of geological beauty from the late 1900s.

A mountain producing salt for millions of years birthed the Salinas Salt Spring— resembling a hill adorned with glistening salt crystals. Viewed from afar, it resembled a radiant gem amid a forested mountain.

The Salinas Salt Spring found its place in literature through the July 1974 Official Gazette, Copyright Claims Registered Under Presidential Decree 49. The legend of the springs came to life in the work of Mr. Johnny Lantion Baluyan, a celebrated Novo Vizcayano poet, in his piece "Legend of the Salinas Salt Springs" dated 18 July 1974. This was likewise originally written by Mr. Domingo Baluyan. A mural can be seen at the Capitol Complex, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

RUNWAY ON MY WORST PSORIASIS ATTACK

Psoriasis - a pesky skin disease with no cure- doesn't seem to fit in with the glamour and beauty of the fashion industry. Yet, it's a battle I've been fighting for years. I've learned to manage my flare-ups with Virgin coconut oil, occasional corticosteroids, Cetaphil, and Physiogel. I was proud of myself for being able to keep it under control until recently.

My skin started to show really bad symptoms such as bleeding, scaly patches, and dryness just a few days before the MFR event. After my recent trip to Tokyo, my skin was already challenged by the weather, and to make matters worse, I had to deal with an infection and dengue. The combination of these physical illnesses and the weather led to the most severe flare-up I've experienced in years.

As the days went by, my flare-up got worse, and triggered multiple panic attacks. My old ways were not working, and I even tried to take a quick beach trip – as you might already know, saltwater has healing properties for skin problems. At this point, my lesions have spread, and I knew I had to seek medical help. It was just three days before the runway show, and I was determined not to let my condition stop me from doing the show. I was prescribed clobetasol for my scalp, an ointment for my body, and Triamcinolone Acetonide for my face. I also I put Cetaphil every 2 hours and tried my best to get 6:30 AM sunlight. I also discussed long-term treatment with my dermatologist.

Living with psoriasis for years means having an immune system out of whack. Autoimmune disease occurs because the body's natural defenses — the immune system — attack the body's own healthy tissue. The struggle never ends (quite literally), and just when you think you've gained the upper hand, it viciously resurfaces to haunt you once more.

The runway show was a success, and I was able to walk with minimal lesions. Don't let the stigma surrounding skin lesions scare you or make you feel ashamed. It doesn't seem to fit in with the glamour and beauty of the fashion industry, you can still make it work if you refuse to be confined by societal norms.

As 2022 draws to a close and we look back on how the year has gone, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to practice mindfulness, relax and unwind as we cap off the year.
