Are you aware of the power of your choice to invite the transformation of God’s word into your home? Whether you own a home, travel constantly, or rent with loud neighbors all around, the spaces you dwell in are meant to host God’s presence. As a believer in Jesus, He actually lives inside of you! How incredible is that? With this knowledge, you get to bring heaven into every area of your life–including our home! Filling your home with God’s word invites Jesus, the Word of God, to show up and make Himself known. Today’s article discusses the importance of this, check it out below.

Life and death in the power of your tongue

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruits.” (Proverbs 18:21)

God has given us an incredible gift–free will. And what we choose to do with it sets the scene for every other area of our life. One of these facets is what we choose to speak–to ourselves, to others, and even our environments. Have you ever entered a grocery store or even a friend or family member’s home and just felt…uneasy? Maybe anxious, angry, or irritable? For me, there are several places that come to mind. Holy Spirit taught me how to combat these feelings from a place of rest–His rest–through the word. So instead of going into a place and succumbing to what everyone else around me was feeling, I could enter strong and spiritually “armored”.

The armor of God

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:10-17)

When we allow the transformation of God’s word to pe*****te our hearts, it will ripple into every place we go. One of the most important places this happens is in our home.

How are we filling our home with God’s word?

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

God’s word is living and active. It’s been with Him from the beginning. In fact, the bible tells us that Jesus is the the Word of God, that came to earth to dwell among us. Knowing this, what are some ways you can steward Jesus’s presence in your home? Here are some simple ideas:

choose a weekly scripture to display in the kitchen or living space, that everyone can read

put sticky notes with scripture on your children or roommate’s bedroom doors

keep your bible open and near your bed

By doing simple things like this, you can ensure God’s word isn’t sitting on a shelf collecting dust, but it’s being applied to your day to day life. None of these things replace the daily time spent in meditating on the bible, but they add more deposits of Jesus to your day.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)

An invitation for our participation

Knowing our heavenly authority to engage with God’s presence, inviting His word into our homes lays the foundation for ourselves and our families. When we pray God’s word, we are filling our mouths and bodies with His truth for our lives. And the more we do this in our home, we actually access the transforming power of His truth in our home, neighborhood, and community. Perhaps more importantly, we engage with His truth in the depths of our hearts. As a spouse, this centers our marriage. As parents, this influences our children. We get to choose to engage with the transformation of God’s word, filling our hearts and homes with more of Him.

Cultivating atmospheres of heavenly presence

“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17)

Remind your heart of God’s truth for your life. Incredibly, the hope that we possess in Him can touch every part of our lives. The idea of cultivating atmospheres of God’s heavenly presence might sound…peculiar. But all throughout the bible are instances of Jesus making himself known to us (in our homes, with other believers, even with Paul while He was imprisoned!) When we invite the transformation of God’s word into our homes, we are really inviting Jesus. He brings miracles, healing, and transformation!

When Jesus appears to us

I love the song When You Walk Into The Room. It captures the beauty, wonder, and fresh breath of being in the presence of God. As you listen, read the excerpts I placed below. Consider how every time Jesus encounters someone in scripture, they were impacted. He touches our physical bodies, our hearts, minds, and entire lives! I pray that as engage with your family, you don’t just talk about the Lord. I pray you encounter His tangible, healing presence, in your home.

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.” (Matthew 9:35)

Jesus heals a servant

“When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, 6 “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” 7 And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.

I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.” (Matthew 8:5-13)

Showing up to the life around us is becoming increasingly more difficult. We have the opportunity to be distracted by technology, endless scrolling on social media, and more information that we could ever need or have the capacity to review. If we do not choose to be present, life will simply happen to us. Nonetheless, it seems that more and more people are weary of their lives. Because of exhaustion and an abundance of information that has the potential to bombard us, it’s become easy to disregard our need for authentic community. Even more, we have ever excuse to not prioritize showing up for the community around us.

Choosing to be present in our lives must become a priority for us, for we know that as believers, there is strength in our togetherness. We build each other up through our presence in one another’s lives. There is no secret to showing up; it simply must become a priority in our minds. Through habit, we can create lives that are presence-filled, despite where our feelings land.

Read on to learn some of the ways to develop mindsets that ensure you show up, despite how you might feel.

Avoid being led by your feelings

While our feelings are great indicators of what’s happening in our hearts, they are not meant to be our leaders. Not only are our feelings a terrible guide to our lives, but they’ll take us only to what feels “good” instead of where we have been called to be. In order to do this, you must plan your days, instead of simply letting them happen to you. Commit to yourself and your family the things that are most important for you…and stick to them! By having commitments in place for community and being present with those in your life, you’ll keep yourself accountable, despite how you feel. When doing this, it’s important to still consider how your heart is doing and what you are feeling (it does matter!)

Using wisdom to know when to stick to your commitments and when to say no, for example, is an invaluable tool that is learned over time. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in this area!

Find the right people

The ones who you can be totally yourself with. The friends who love honestly and biblically. When showing up feels the most challenging, having people in your corner who encourage, inspire, and pour into you makes all the difference! These are the friends who become family; the ones who let you come exactly as you are. They are the friends that we look forward to seeing, not because we have it all together, but because they want us just as we are. Having the right people in your corner to call you higher is one of the most life-giving experiences.

“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24)

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” (Proverbs 17:17)

Sowing seeds for tomorrow

The bible makes it clear that when we live for our eternal purpose, we will reap reward. It can be so natural to only keep vision on merely the days we are in. To get stuck in a sort of survival mode. I want to challenge you: ask the Holy Spirit for guidance for the days in front of you! Jesus has vision for your life far beyond what you could ever ask, think, or imagine. When we set our eyes on what’s to come, we begin to live much more intentionally. The mundane woes of our days that could distract begin to fall behind the real purpose of our lives. Sow of your spirit, not your flesh, and begin to see God move in the midst of you. The sowing is more than worth it!

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:7-10)

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)

Remember eternal purpose

As you sow, stay set on your eternal purpose. Showing up today isn’t about just today–it’s about the things of the Spirit that you get to take part in. Your true life is hidden in Jesus, the author and perfector of your faith. Keeping our eyes on where He’s guiding us and what He’s saying to us helps us remember our purpose. Stay delighted on the Lord’s nearness to you and experience fulfillment in the deepest places of your heart!

“For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:3)

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (John 5:24)

Showing up for today

So what does showing up for today look like? After you’ve found the community you need, commit to the weekly or monthly gatherings…how do you ensure you actually follow through?

Practically, we plan and schedule. We get around the people who reach out, and we reach out to them. If you’re wanting to get in the habit of regularly attending church, a bible study, or home group, set and asses your priorities. Decide what’s more important to you, and live accordingly. Sometimes, we have to cut things out of our lives that are no longer serving us. With limited capacities, showing up for your day must be intentional. If you need help in this area, ask Jesus to lead and guide you. He promises that He is the way! Following Him will never lead Him astray. Learning to grow in His voice will always lead you closer to your purpose in Him.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

“For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:5-11)

Many people are entering a new year with anxiety because of general societal uncertainty, financial instability, relational instability, and challenges with their physical and emotional health. According to The American Institute of Stress: “About 33 percent of people report feeling extreme stress. 77 percent of people experience stress that affects their physical health. 73 percent of people have stress that impacts their mental health” (Sep 5, 2022). “Major depressive disorder affects approximately 17.3 million American adults, or about 7.1% of the U.S. population age 18 and older, in a given year (National Institute of Mental Health, “Major Depression,” 2017).

The following are ten primary reasons for the increase in personal stress and depression:

1. No boundaries for family and self

Every individual must create personal boundaries to protect their personal and family space. These boundaries should include carving out specific work hours, Sabbath keeping, and allotting personal private time with spouse and children. When set boundaries are not in place, many situations or people will invade your privacy, not granting you enough alone time to emotionally process important issues or spend adequate quality time with your family. These continual interruptions to one’s personal and family life can eventually cause stress and even depression.

2. Ambiguity regarding goals and purpose

When people have no clear sense of calling or purpose, they are open to doing anything with their time. Since a sense of purpose provides a sustainable anchor for the soul, a lack of purpose and goals cause ambiguity and incoherence in one’s cognitive self, causing a person to emotionally unravel. To compensate emotionally for this feeling of “lostness of soul,” many continually attempt to medicate themselves with drugs, p**n, excessive entertainment, and so on, to obtain a fleeting sense of happiness.

3. Transference

Most people have unresolved issues with some significant people (their parents, siblings, coworkers, or former lovers and friends). The result of this is a spillover effect in which other people become objects of their pain and wrath to cope with their emotions continually boiling up. Some people describe this as transference. Transference describes a situation where one person’s feelings, desires, and expectations are redirected and applied to another person. This happens when a person views another person in their life, either as a parent figure, sibling, or another significant person who wounded them. They transfer these feelings regarding past hurts onto this person as a proxy. As a result, people transferring blame to others experience broken relationships since “hurt people, hurt people.”

This inability to sustain deep relational connections can result in severe depression, loneliness, and isolation.

4. Activity overload

Many people are constantly involved in one activity after another from morning till night without taking a reasonable break. They equate activity with productivity. However, sometimes less is more. Prolonged activity leaves less time to reflect and plan one’s day to objectively make the best decisions in life. Furthermore, many people don’t understand our divinely designed circadian rhythms on a 24-hour day. The human body is meant to shut down, rest and relax in the evening, so that it can be properly energized for the next day.

Circadian rhythms are the natural cycle of physical, mental, and behavioral changes the body goes through in a 24-hour cycle. Circadian rhythms are mostly affected by light and darkness and are controlled by a small area in the middle of the brain. When we violate these divinely ordained circadian rhythms, it negatively impacts our emotions, causing undue stress, and depression.

5. Poor physical health

God designed humans to functionally integrate with their spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:13). Hence, when a person violates this by neglecting one of these areas, it negatively impacts everything else, including their spiritual and emotional health. For example, if a person has poor nutritional habits, it can cause anxiety and depression and hurt one’s ability to think clearly and focus. However, when one sticks to a diet of nutrient-rich foods, one can set oneself up for fewer mood swings and improved overall quality of life. Studies have even found that clean diets consisting of whole, unprocessed foods can help with symptoms of depression and anxiety.

One reason is that adopting a diet of nutritionally dense food promotes the growth of “good” bacteria, which positively affects the production of dopamine and serotonin, which send positive messages to the brain. Conversely, eating a diet mostly of processed foods and soda negatively impacts the brain and causes inflammation and possibly even disease in the body.

One of the most powerful weapons that we have in the Kingdom, is the power of forgiveness; the ability to release others from offenses that they’ve created against us. It’s amazing how much your life will change when you offer forgiveness to someone else.

And for example, I remember it wasn’t too long ago where I was laying in bed and I was just recapping in my mind an injustice that had happened to one of my family members and just replaying in my mind this event that had taken place. And I remember just feeling so tense about it and just very upset at what should have happened and what should have been said. And they weren’t the things that were happening and the things that were said. And I just felt this turmoil inside of me. And I felt the gentle nudge from the Lord saying, “It’s time to forgive. It’s time to forgive.” And, and I’ll be really honest with you, at the time, I just didn’t want to do it, but I was obedient and I told the Lord, “Okay, God, I’ll forgive.”

And I started walking through the process of forgiving this person for things that they weren’t asking forgiveness for. And the more I began to forgive, the more that feeling of turmoil completely lifted off of me. And it was replaced by this peace. And I remember the Lord pushing me even further and saying, “Okay, now bless them.” And I thought, oh man, that’s a stretch. But I knew it was the right thing to do, and I just started to bless that person and to pray for good things over and in their life. And I fell asleep that night with the most complete peace that I’d had since the incident had happened.

I think about Jesus when He’s in the middle of being crucified, you know, we’re putting everything on Him. None of it was deserving. In Luke 23:34, Jesus said, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” You know, He was at the most crucial point in His life, going to death on a cross for our sins, and He was able to forgive. If Christ can forgive us of that, how much more can we forgive somebody for things that they’ve done to us? And in return, not only do we release them, but we actually release ourselves. And it’s one of the most powerful things we can walk in, is forgiveness. We no longer have the traps holding our feet. We no longer are tethered to the situation or the injustice. We become free and we can live in peace.

So I just want to pray over you today. If you’re walking in something where you know that God’s calling you to forgive, take that next step of obedience. Even if it’s hard, let Him walk you through it. And I promise you, not only will you free that person, but you’re going to free yourself. So, God, I just pray for your leading and forgiveness. God, walk us through the difficulty until we feel the peace of your presence over us. In Jesus Name, Amen.

It’s so important that we know and experience God’s opinion of us! It’s sad that so many believers, who say that they believe they are the children of God live like orphans!

God did not create us just to survive, but rather to thrive to such a degree that people encounter Him when they encounter us! When we have a revelation in our hearts (not just our minds) of just how extraordinarily precious we are to God we are changed forever from the inside out. No amount of doctrine or theology can have the transformational effect on us that an encounter with God does.

What God Did For You

Did you know that God wrote all about you in His book of life? Your life is not random and your birth was not a mistake, an accident or mistimed. God has invested an incredible amount of creative energy and intentionality in designing and creating you the way that He did.

You are unique and carry an expression of God that no other human being ever has or ever will. God planned you before creation. He chose your personality, your DNA, your dreams and the time of your arrival on earth. God smiled on the day He created you because His creation was ‘very good’!

You Are Beautifully And Wonderfully Made

The Great I AM chose your character and personality. He made you beautiful and beloved. Therefore, your assignment and purpose and time where chosen by Him so that you would be available today to bless His creation, find personal fulfillment and bring great glory to Him.

God always has watched over you, He does today and will forever. Our Heavenly Father never loses sight of you or has His attention distracted from you. He nurtures your spirit and blesses you with His endless and completely unconditional love daily. In addition, our Heavenly Father sees the potential in you rather than shortcomings. The deep longing of His heart is simply that you nestle up to Him as Father, become entwined with Jesus and are responsive to the gentle prompts of Holy Spirit.

You can bring something to this world that no other person can by being the ‘you’ God created. Other people in your sphere of influence need the deposit that God placed in you to be manifest and available. Celebrate your miraculous design and unique purpose.

The truth is you really are the apple of Father’s eye, part of Jesus’ Bride and the delight of Holy Spirit. You are not abandoned or alone. He has adopted you. You are not an orphan!

You are a co-heir with Jesus as the inheritance of Father. He promises, “I am always with you and everything I have is yours.” (Matthew 28:20, Hebrews 13:5, Luke 15:31)

In conclusion, may you encounter the tangible expression of His blessing, His favour and His presence each and every day of your life regardless of your situation and circumstances.

God is Spirit and He created man in His own image, a spirit being. However through the Fall man lost his ability to commune with God and so created god in his own image. This longing for God is there in all creation. Many are unaware that this hole in their being is due to a loss of connection with God. Therefore man is in search for an answer and God provided the answer. His answer is found in Jesus. Connection with Father God is restored through Jesus. The Holy Spirit was sent to inhabit the spirit of man. The spirit of man was reborn through the new birth in Christ.

Spirit of man

The spirit of man although born again still is limited in our body. It is affected by the body and the soul. The soul of man is the conscious part of man that thinks, feels and wills to do. Most of the time we operate in our soul. Our soul is limited in its capacity to know God because it lives in our body. It is only through our spirit that we are able to connect with God who is spirit. Now we have the Holy Spirit to help us in our communion with God. We can now operate in our human spirit or the Holy Spirit. The same Holy Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. This is a profound revelation. Now we can be led by the Holy Spirit.

Be Led

Being led by the Holy Spirit is to walk like Jesus did. He only did what He saw and heard His Father doing. We too can be led by the Holy Spirit as He reveals His mind to us. Once we know the voice of God we will look to be led by Him. This is to live an abundant life here on earth in the Holy Spirit. No circumstance or restriction can rob us of the joy of this communion. We live in habitation and in this place nothing can take us away from Him. Let’s live under the shelter of His wings and bring heaven to earth.

Worship is one of my favorite Kingdom weapons that we have. Ever since I was a little girl, it’s been one of the ways that I’ve connected with the Lord the most. Anytime I wanted to feel His nearness or feel His presence tangibly, I could just turn to Him in worship and just turn my heart and affection towards the Lord.

I know Bill Johnson talks about that a lot; about turning our affection to the Lord. And it’s such a quick way to access His love and feel His presence. And worship is something that has helped me through highs and lows, all sorts of different seasons. And it’s something that Jesus is so worthy of. I can just look at the cross. I can look at the breakthroughs in my life. Even today, I was driving around and was just filled with thankfulness to the Lord for the different things that He’s done, and even the little things that I have. Worship is something that is an overflow of our love for Jesus and what He’s done, and the Father and who He is and what He’s done in sending in Jesus to be there and save us and bring us new life, eternal life, to give us a brand new start.

I love that we have the hope of eternity before us. I’ve had a couple friends and loved ones pass away in the past season, and worship has been a way that I’ve been able to process that. And I’m sure there’s many people watching, too, who have experienced loss. Maybe you’ve experienced situations that you didn’t expect. And something that was so beautiful is, I was coming before the Lord. One of my best friends recently passed away during Covid. And it was totally unexpected. I didn’t see it coming and I was just in my room, spending time with God. I didn’t want to go anywhere. And I was finding myself in this place, worshiping Jesus and just going, “God, I know you’re good in this. I don’t understand. We planned, you know, weddings that we were going to be in together and all these things we were going to do for you, God, together.” And she had such destiny on her life and I didn’t fully understand.

And I remember worshiping, just sitting before the Lord and letting Him meet me in that place, letting the Holy Spirit comfort as He does. And I remember all of a sudden as I walked downstairs to finally eat for the day, I had this vision drop, because I’d been spending this time with the Lord. I was just in this place of, “What are you saying, Lord? What are you doing?” And this picture, this vision, dropped in my mind and I saw my friend who had passed away. Well, first I saw my grandmother who’s in heaven. She’s been there for quite some time now. And she looked so beautiful and young and she had her arms out like this. And then I saw my grandpa standing behind her and he looked so young as well. They’d both already gone to heaven. And then in the vision, it panned around and I saw my friend Paula, and she looked so beautiful and she was being welcomed by my grandmother and my grandpa, whom she had met before.

But I just thought it was so beautiful, because in these times of worship, whether we worship through highs or lows, God wants to meet us in that place. It’s in this instant place of connection that we can have with the Lord where He meets us, He talks to us, His presence fills us. But most of all, it’s a two-way encounter. Yes, we’re worshiping the Lord because of everything that He’s done for us. We’re worshiping Him because of who He’s been to us. And we worship Him out of the overflow of our love and our gratitude and just how amazing He is, and what an honor it is to know Him and have Him in our lives.

You know, there’s just so many reasons why we could worship God, but what’s so beautiful is that it’s a two-way encounter and you can never out-give God. And as you pour out your love and affection to Him for everything He’s done and redeemed us of; the cross, and then thereafter, it’s so beautiful because He’s constantly pouring out, and He’s wanting that connection, and He’s reaching out to us, and we love Him because He first loved us.

And so, I want to encourage you today, if there’s anything that you’ve been going through that maybe was hard and you haven’t known how to process it, or maybe something happened that you couldn’t quite understand why that happened. I want encourage you to come before the Lord in worship and to get in His presence, because it’s a weapon of warfare to be able to have perspective, to see what God says about your situation. That’s the truth. If you can find a word from the Lord about what you went through, no matter how hard it was, if you can just find what God says over that, the way that God can redeem that, it’ll change everything. It’ll give you that fresh hope to move forward.

After I had that encounter with the Lord and I saw my best friend up there in heaven, I knew it was the Lord, because I wasn’t even thinking about my grandma or my grandpa, or anything. And it was right after I’d come out of this time of worship with the Lord and just to see her being welcomed into heaven, it was beautiful to see the Lord say, “I’ve got this, I’ve redeemed this, she’s safe with me.”

And so whatever it may be that has been something that’s been hard for you to process in your life, I encourage you to get before the Lord, get in worship, get in His presence, seek His face, and let Him speak over that. Let Him comfort your heart and speak truth over what it is that happened and how He’s redeemed that for you.
