"La búsqueda" by Zike Bird ().

Description: "The motivation is the search for a feeling to love without restriction, to be like birds and fly wherever we want, and to find the refuge where we belong. The process was to connect as an artist and be able to see with the eyes of the heart." 💕 🎃

"Mini CHUO Reef 4" by JR Chuo (IG: ).
Inspired by the final moments in a coral's life, this piece uses calming blues and pinks to create a sense of serenity, concealing the tragic reality of bleaching coral due to climate change. The individual paper cut pieces are elevated at different levels and are designed to mirror the complex structure of coral reefs.

JR Chuo's process involves cutting paper by hand and using spray paint to produce vibrant paintings. Lucky to feature his unique and wonderful art in the Fall Issue. 💕🍁

“Issay” by Jirah May (IG: ).

Description: “This painting was based on a photo taken in Intramuros Manila years ago, featuring my college friend Issay Cueto. The picture reminded me of beautiful, simple times-- of sitting outside a cafe, enjoying coffee while reading a good book. I think it is a quality that watercolor achieves well: the softness and nostalgic feeling associated with the art.”

If you love water-colour artwork, you must checkout Jirah’s beautiful paintings on insta. Lucky to have her in our upcoming Fall issue. ❤️

“Egyptian Princess” by Lena Snow ().

Description: “This artwork is made of several materials – all composed to make the strong female figure – Cleopatra in her early years – glamorous, but elegant and powerful. The artwork is made of gold leaf, plastic foil, metal, gold varnish (that was also re-used) and rhinestones. Her posture is feminine because showing that she can embrace both – being a woman and being powerful. Also her gesture is slightly provocative, as if she would say: hey, what do you want? So, I am a female rule and I am goddess-like princess, do you have a problem with that? The ancient Egyptian theme emphasizes something that is mythical, untouchable and sublime. With my artwork I want to express that women have the right to be powerful and graceful and that they should not feel guilty about it – just like Cleopatra does.”

Lena is an interdisciplinary artist based in Germany. The topics of spiritual enlightenment, connectivity, and female identity are always present in her art. She uses different materials, like everyday objects or plastic, and implement them into her artworks. Every artwork is connected to her and nature and expresses transcendental energy. 💕🍁

“Miso Soup” by James Makan (IG: ).

Description: “I love anime and Japanese culture but I also like to put a little bit of a different twist on my art so it's not ‘traditional’ anime exactly. It was super relaxing to create and I feel the figure shown exudes relaxation as well.”

Our Summer issue’s special feature ARTicle is by lovely Dominic Blake (IG: ).
Dominic is a London based artist and writer. In his article, he explores the historical significance of photographic performance art moving into the digital age.

In his words - “I use my body as my medium to draw in space. The ephemeral, hieroglyphic forms I create emerge spontaneously in solitude and in collaboration with other artists. They are direct emotional responses to the environments I am located within, the people I share them with, internal dialogues and to my body itself; a kind of self-portraiture. This is the language I use to convey my deepest emotions. Captured photographically, they transform into permanent records of time and space.
I also work in front of live audiences within gallery spaces, on those occasions I incorporate ambient soundscapes and lighting within the installations I stage (which involve a greater degree of planning).”

Dominic is currently co-authoring a book titled ‘Revaluing the Life Model in Art Practice’ due for publication next year.

Read this wonderful article in our upcoming summer issue on July 17th and get motivated to write :)
