I've been going since 1986, I was in third grade and we went for our family vacation. We went every summer after that and sometimes we went for Christmas too. They only had Magic Kingdom and Epcot back then. Tickets were good forever and never expired, we still have some unused tickets, no I won't sell them or use them. I don't get to go as much as I used to, I have children and I have taken them five times in the last ten or so years.
As a kid going with our family we always stayed off property, when I took my children I opted to stay on property for the transportation and amenities that came with staying on property. To me the parks have been going downhill, they aren't very far from being an overpriced Six Flags as quality continues to fade away. Amenities continue to disappear, upcharges are added for things that were once free and prices continue to climb. Can I afford it, yes I absolutely can,l but is it worth it, I have to say not as much as it once was...
We typically purchase no less than a six day ticket and usually do at least three to four extra hotel days so we can get some rest in and do other things on property. We haven't gone in recent years due to the pandemic and one of my daughters having been recently diagnosed with a potentially deadly autoimmune disorder. It has taken some time to nail down a treatment that doesn't make her sick or cause her liver to begin to fail. It took some time to work out and currently things are going well.
We came to Florida for Christmas 2021 and Disney Springs was the only Disney we got to experience. We did however have a blast, we toured Naples on scooters, saw alligators and a bear in the wild, we went for an airboat ride, had a blast at Busch Gardens and spent time with our Florida family.
I found an awesome hotel right off Disney property with huge suites for the same price or less than I used to pay for a premium room at Caribbean Beach. My punishment to Disney is the loss of my $2900-4800 for staying on property, I will give that money to someone else instead. I may even toss some money to Universal even though I'm not a fan of their parks.
Nostalgia always draws me back to the Disney parks but the Greed of Bob the Paycheck McScrooge is changing what I once held dear to my heart.
