Cape Palmerston. 📍 This was a spontaneous solo detour... they end up being some of the best, right?

An easy drive up the beach and some slightly more calculated 4WDing up to the lookout will reward you with 360 degree views of the coast.

Night ➡️ day, which is your favourite? 🧐

Stanley wasn't overly high on my list of 'must see' spots in Tasmania, but I admit it's now one of the areas I was most fond of.

Visiting 'The Nut' (an ancient volcanic plug), driving the quaint cottage lined streets and seeing Fairy Penguins were all definite highlights (alongside the seafood). 🐧

Having said all that, I can still feel the chill of the wind from this lookout. 🥶

I didn't believe it until I saw the back of my camera last night... but word is the aurora made it all the way up to Central Queensland! 😱

To think I spent weeks in Tasmania hoping, and then had one happen on home ground - faint but unheard of right?!

Driving into Coffs Harbour on the tail of a massive thunderstorm was definitely a sight to behold. 😱

On the same day we also got caught in hail, spent the afternoon dodging rain and narrowly avoided an accident when another driver overtook on a single lane road. 🤦

On the plus side, this view from the headland was a great way to end the day. 🌩️

Black Spur Drive, arguably one of the most spectacular forested drives in Australia - winding roads framed by tree ferns and mountain ash gums. Which photo is your favourite? 🤔

We spent 37 days on the road (I wish it was longer). 🏕
In that time, we covered almost 12,000km (averaging 320km per day). 🚙
Crossed four Australian states (and the ACT, if it counts). 🌏
Fueled up 50 times (I'm too scared to do the $ math). 💰
The car narrowly dodged a freak hail storm (you can imagine the state I was in). ⛈️
We drove from sea level to 1846m (and wore more layers of clothes than some Queenslanders own). 🥶
Spent a questionable amount of time playing 'Wombat or Rock?' (in Tasmania anyway). 🐾
Took something in the region of 5,000 photos (sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe s**t). 📷

A town tainted by historic mining smelters and logging, the drive into Queenstown certainly felt otherworldly. 🌑🚙

As my first taste of the West Coast Wilderness in Tasmania, it was a captivating contrast to the dense forests that surround the area. 🌿

We narrowly escaped the nasty part of this hail storm, but it was certainly incredible to watch!
